  1. Martial law for 70 yr olds? Don't get it
  2. Since most here only offer hindsight finger pointing, not sure this will get too many ideas. But would the government be better to require those in the at risk categories to be shut down and totally isolated? If we spend the billions on them and let the other parts of the population go back to work, would the long term costs to the country be better or worse? Would seem that shutting everyone down because 20% of your population is at risk, might not be the most effective route. And when I say shut down, I mean no visiting grand kids, grocery store visits, etc. The money the gov is spending could be used to basically quarantine these folks and provide for them. Most of them are not working anyway. Just thinking outside the box a bit. Not sure how that would flesh out, but wondering your thoughts, the ones besides "we shoulda done something"
  3. Pols should not be "Polyana nor Eeyore" Doc that is in charge, he is about the only one respected, so he would be the one I would put in front of the mic. The finger pointing and crowing when things go bad or good is not helpful, but again, its what pols do.
  4. Most were being purchased from China?
  5. Best we can hope for is the infamous "flattened curve". The more we slow the peak, many things work in our favor. Warmer weather, less crowded hospitals, catching up on medical equipment, distribution of antiviral drugs, and most importantly, resupplies of toilet paper.
  6. US at 1.0% death rate now Italy going wrong direction at 9.3% My goodness they have got to feel hopeless.
  7. You guys are too into "hating or loving" your gov officials. Currently, we are between 1.1 and 1.2% death rate, similar to S Korea. Italy on the other hand is close to 9%. All numbers change each day, but even though I am no fan of the current president, NO government was ready or could have been ready for this. Get your head screwed on right. Grind your axes when this is over. If all we offer is our hatred of our political parties, we don't add much to the conversation. Normally, governments have a year and a half headstart for the yearly flu. Not many have budgets to have anything more than "hypothetical plans" in place for a sudden pandemic.
  8. What are the main constitutional rights you are seeing infringed upon presently?
  9. Thinking everyone wants it to be these two, but in the end, will have only needed Andy Taylor
  10. Reading the article I posted earlier would make my statement make a lot more sense. Explains a lot of NYC woes also, that and the fact that they are packed in so tightly that social distancing and not touching surfaces is almost impossible. NYC is almost like it's own cruise ship.
  11. I think you'd benefit from more time with your beautiful lady
  12. I hate the warmer weather that has begun all of a sudden, but it will be to our benefit
  13. But Martial Law sounds so cool, and 72% of people on Twitter even spell it correctly
  14. If she wasn't beautiful, would that change the date? Joking
  15. Maybe by the beginning of April, the kids will be able to return to school
  16. The hysteria is driving people crazy. It builds on itself. Look closer at the article. The virus is not passed as easily as everyone leads you to believe. In fact, part of the article is saying the increase in deaths is close to the same with people with underlying conditions as the seasonal flu. These are numbers, not scare tactics. US is actually in a much better place than all the "starved for clicks" people are projecting. Each article in the report speaks to situations we are hearing about each day. I think it is a great article and the more you understand the facts, the better decisions you can make as a responsible adult. Stupid, privileged teenagers only care about themselves, no matter how hysterical the media presents stuff. Give me facts please.
  17. As far as data, good info here. Perspective https://medium.com/six-four-six-nine/evidence-over-hysteria-covid-19-1b767def5894
  18. NYC and Little Italy. Sorta hate to think that way, but there could be a similarity
  19. Yes, but I can't catch their disease, therefore I don't care, right?
  20. People have different reactions to the virus https://www.sacbee.com/news/coronavirus/article241363476.html
  21. Italy had the first reported death of virus on Feb 24. US was Feb 29. And officially for the Worldometers site, we were at 57 deaths yesterday and 49 today. Not sure of their 24 hour cycle for the US.
  22. Our total losses for yesterday was 57 people, today, will be similar I think. 56 right now Hopefully, we can flatten the curve as some were hoping
  23. US, Germany and Iran, all have just under 20k cases as of this evening, although the death rates are all over the place
  24. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Changes all day long. Our cases per million is rising as we test all over the country, but I feel bad for Italy, they are a mess. Their population is much older on average but their numbers tell a horrible story. Blew by China for sure
