“Canalas is runs an undisciplined team”
Can’t help but notice the abundance of irony in this thread title.

I was definitely a Bryce doubter. Was cautiously hopeful before last season, quickly saw enough to lose that hope. Games 1 and 2 this year just confirmed it, and I doubted he would ever become even a decent backup.
I wouldn’t say I’m “all aboard the Bryce train,” but I’ve definitely seen enough over the last three games to give him the benefit of the doubt and not be hoping we replace him. The two games before that were ok but not particularly good, these last three games have been good. He keeps it up for the rest of this season and I’ll be all aboard. What I am ready to admit is that I was definitely wrong to complete write him off, he’s shown stuff in these past three games that he never showed even a remote glimpse of the first 18 games. Huge improvement.
I think there are a lot of people that feel this way. Sums it up nicely.

I feel its been this way the entire season, and frankly since the hires of canales and morgan. That draft didnt feel the same as the others involving tepper, the field operations feel much more competent and in the hands of canales because there would have been much more chaos but Canales stablized the early season insanity and has officially proven himself as a decent NFL HC.
I know nothing but I get a sense that there is a lot of buy in from the guys in the locker room and a lot would be attributed to Canales. Hard to explain, but it seems like they are losing but still having fun and working hard. Not saying they are happy with losing but they still seem to be loose and confident.
Also, I think somehow there are a lot of Carolina fans excited about a 3 win football team and look forward to Sunday afternoons.

I like what we are seeing. Before Bryce was the main reason the team was not able to compete. Now he seems to be the main reason we are in a position to win. Yesterday he passed the ball for a go ahead touchdown and it was literally in the receiver’s hands in the end zone. He’s not the problem the last few games. This is for sure.
is he elite franchise qb material? For me, it remains to be seen, but this latest version of Bryce is a competent and talented NFL player.

I was on the “wait and see” fence for a long time with Bryce and finally saw enough to abandon ship. I like what he’s done the last few weeks but would like to hold out on the verdict till the end of the season before officially thinking he’s turned a corner. Not diminishing anything he’s done and not gonna try to backup this stance with some weak nit-picky arm chair analysis nonsense. He’s passing the eye test but I’m simply withholding judgement.

I am skeptical of Bryce’s ability each week and fo the past ew weeks he has surprised me. He is doing what he needs to do to keep his job. It needs to continue forward but he seems toe improving each week. Whether it continues will be enough is a question mark. He looks confident and appears to be energized.
Team is losing but it looks like they have played 8 quarters of competitive football with two playoff teams. Sucks that we aren’t winning but the games are enjoyable.
I think Philly might be a buzz saw with some regression from the entire team but still looking forward to it.

Not a fan of the 2nd down play call there
Yeah, that set of goal to go calls was not that imaginative. Needed a TD there.

I can’t find any room for optimism with Bryce. I’m not even in a “would love to be wrong” state of mind. I just want to move on. No matter how good he looks the rest of the season I can’t see him ever taking this team to the promised land. I can’t really even expect him to play better next season once the expectations are on again.
I fall into the would love to be wrong” category and while I disagree with your stance, I definitely understand and respect it. A lot of people probably feel the same way you do because there has been much more negative than positive.

Good for Bryce and team.
That said, I think the media tends to sensationalize things a bit much and by the end of the week, the guy that was benched and thought to be a bust is carrying a walk on water narrative around his neck.
I like that he is saying the right things to his teammates and also trying to legitimize himself as an NFL QB but the dramatization kind of cheapens the whole thing for me personally.

I'm at around 50% so it will take him playing at or near this level the rest of the way before I'm convinced he could be worth the investment. Sunday he played like he has and can play so he just had to keep it up. He hasn't done that since being drafted. Last season nearly ruined any hopes he may have had make it in the league. I'm proud of how he's taken the benching and am pulling for him to take the league by storm.
I am part of the way there but ready to turn the car around at anytime. Just need a body of work rather than a one/two outliers. I do have hope but hope is not a strategy.
To OP's original point, I definitely give kudos/credit to Bryce for handling this with grace and trying to claw back some relevancy. Whether it ends up well for him in the end, he has seemingly handled the situation admirably and responded to the adversity in a good way.

NFL athletes are just a different breed. My middle aged ass would have been in surgery that night.
Edit: props to Dan for the type of dudes he’s bringing in.
Yeah. Even if my middle aged ass didn’t require surgery someone would have had to carry me into that building. In my early fifties and I’m convinced I’ve sustained injuries while sleeping.

I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out
That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.

It’s a misconception that you can’t get good brisket in NC. Pork is king around here for sure, but we ain’t no strangers to beef.
Yep. But restaurants are hit and miss with both pork and beef IMO. Backyard smoker is the best.

From NC so smoked pork butt is the staple. That said, having a narrow minded view regarding a good brisket is self destructive. Wouldn’t turn down either one.

If we are still asking this question I think we know how it will end. If we haven’t seen it yet then it is likely unattainable.
Never say never though.

Some very rosy takes for a backup RB in his first NFL game versus an elite rushing defense.
I damn sure hope that you guys are right.
I have no real expectations. I think he will play like a dude coming off an injury who hasn’t played a down of football in 53 weeks and playing in his first ever NFL game. Needs to get hit and needs live action game contact. I want him to get in rhythm and get comfortable with assignments.
If he balls out great but in no way am I expecting some sort of breakout performance.

Jones was a Dave Gettleman special. Good thing we let Dave go when we did, otherwise the Panthers would have eventually wasted a high draft pick on a Q….
Never mind. Forgot where I was going with that one.

I suspect with it being his first game back that it will be lackluster and they will not put too much on his plate. Glad he is healthy but the only thing I expect is a complete overreaction from fans and media on how good or how pedestrian he looks in his first outing.
That said, I am wrong on things most of the time, so who knows.

Can't imagine the stress our young receiving corp must be facing at the moment knowing everyone is looking to them and expecting them to make up for this loss of production. The sleepless nights will be unbearable and I hope they don't crack under this added pressure.

I think for the lion to have a chance he/she would have to go for the jugular on a quick strike. If it misses the bear would simply break it in half or take a bite out of its skull like a kid on a tootsie roll pop. In the bear's case its only gonna take one lick to get to the center...
Probably the best thread in a while though. Kudos to OP.

From the media click perspective it makes sense. The Panthers need a QB really bad and Daniel Jones is a really bad QB. Lets put it out there...

Kudos to the Athletic. Finally a media outlet that does its research thoroughly and has the courage to say what no one else will.
And they say journalism is dead…
