  1. It wouldn't surprise me if Shaq played a similar role to what TD played as a rookie.  TD wasn't really a LB and wasn't really a safety as a rookie.  He was pretty much put out there and told to be an athlete and make plays.  He spied mobile QBs (Vick) and was just generally unleashed to cause a ruckus.

agreed. Only caveat is that the coaching staff was indecisive on whether TD was a Safety or LB (my recollection and may be wrong). I think this may have initially slowed TDs learning curve a bit. Sounds like RR is firm in Shaqs role as a LB which should help.

  2. With Stewart seeming healthier than ever and this promising crop of young runners, this RB group makes me hella-excited.

This team seems to have a big itch this season.  I hope it translates in a very good way.

I think the RB rotation will be key, especially early on if the OL needs a little more time to gel.  If a strong running game cAn be established early on this team could really make some noise.

  3. I used to work for the Patriots and personally escorted Brady around during signings after training camp practices. Brady would usually sign once a week and at the most would sign 10 items before heading to the locker room.

your post has been very helpful. I  had every intention of making some sort of ball joke here but took a moment and realized I am so fugging tire of Tom Brady crap now that football is finally here.  Pie to you!

  4. Healthy QBs with full seasons of work do, from time to time throw picks.  In games and also in practice.  This could be for a number of reasons.  Perhaps he got the play wrong, perhaps the receiver got the play wrong, perhaps the defensive guy did his job, read the play and jumped the route. Practice is a good time to get these things situated.

  5. and the 1st rounder?

I have tempered expectations for Shaq, at least in the early going. I think he will be good and consistent enough to supplant Klein as a starter for the opening week but really don't expect to consistently see the wow factor until the middle of the season or so. I think he will flash but do think there be a learning curve for both him and the coaching staff. This is not a knock on him, I am really glad he was our pick and think he is a future pro bowler. I just think it's going to take some time for him to naturally fit in and reach his true potential.

  6. Forgive me if this has already been posted, but it's worth copying the starting lineups as posted by Bill Voth:

    • Offense — QB Newton, RB Jonathan Stewart, FB Mike Tolbert, WR Benjamin/Brown/rotation, LT Michael Oher, LG Andrew Norwell, C Ryan Kalil, RG Trai Turner, RT Mike Remmers

    • Defense — DE Charles Johnson, DT Star Lotulelei, DT Kawann Short, DE Frank Alexander (rotation), SLB Thomas Davis, MLB Luke Kuechly, WLB A.J. Klein, CB Josh Norman, CB Charles Tillman, NCB Colin Jones, SS Roman Harper, FS Tre Boston
I know it's been said before but it's great to look at this lineup and see what coaching and scouting does. Remmers, Norwell and Colin Jones all starters (I know it's only day one of camp, but still) on this team says a lot. I don't expect the starters to shift too much except for maybe RT, WLB and Bene making a push once healthy although there may be a surprise here or there. I do think some of the depth battles will be intriguing as it's likely that guys like Cotchery, Bersin White, etc... are battling for a roster spot.

  7. And he had a "who gives a fug I quit" attitude? Jeez Gettleman. You can't just close you eyes and point to fill out our roster. Well he's gone and that's the good news. Everyone already knew he was terrible.

If I'm not mistaken Gettleman had $0.00 invested in Martin as it was discussed ad nauseam upon his initial signing. So what if he took a flyer on the guy and it did not work out. Hope Martin has a good retirement.
