Besides, a GM is not going to extend a player without the coach signing off on it. What good would it do for a GM to extend a player the coach doesn't want around for a while?

You're right. I don't think I said anything wrong for him to come at me like that lol

Why Rhule again? Ok, maybe you can say he’s made every personnel decision on every draft pick and who to sign but why is he responsible solely for the 5th year option? Does he do all the cap decisions and contract negotiations too? Some people love that Sulieman cap star so why wouldn’t he decide that with Fitterer? Why would the coach get involved in whether you wait to use the franchise tag/long term extension or decide early with the 5th year?

I get the Rhule hate. I’d rather have a better coach but this is a huge reach that a coach with minimal salary cap knowledge coming from college would make what is fundamentally a cap/contract decision.

I’m not a Rhule supporter but damn it gets ridiculous with how much he gets blamed for that most likely wasn’t him. If Corral ends up as bad as he’s looked, didn’t we all say Fitterer was handed the keys or are we going to say Rhule was trying to undercut his development?

Dude, I don't hate Rhule at all. I'm a Rhule supporter and even I didn't understand immediately picking up the 5th year option. I was pretty much defending Sam with my comment because it is really not his fault that he makes that much to suck as the person I quoted was saying.

I mean, there are positives in any situation.  Put the pros on one side, negatives on the other.  It's not close with Rhule when you looked at what is stacked on each side.  That's why he gets what he gets.   I just don't see the point on talking about finding a positive here or there given they are so outweighed.

You stated that Rhule didn't have any positives amid the horribleness. I was stating that I do see some positives from Rhule. One thing he does have over Rivera and maybe even Foxy is that he doesn't stay with things long term.

They were better at their jobs though.  It’s like saying Moton wasn’t bitched as much as the rest of the OL added together.

Matt Rhule is bitched about like others guys that have sucked really bad here.  Whether that was a coach or player Difference is, those guys have all been fired.  Even Marty Hurney or Shula had some positives to talk on amid the horribleness.  Rhule doesn’t have that.

So the defense isn't a positive? That first season when he got here people thought our defense was going to be worse than it was. We were the #2 rank defense last year. I know people may scoff at that but the numbers are the numbers I will admit our rushing defense is a lot less to be desired but I put that towards scheme and the type of players we have on defense. I think that's a positive.

I think another positive is that Rhule doesn't sit on mistakes long. Teddy B was gone after the year, Sam Darnold replaced, they did try to fix the offensive line last year. They even addressed it again this off-season. Those are failures at QB and offensive line by Rhule but the positive I take from that is that at least he is trying to fix the problems instead of just ignoring it like Rivera did.

Last off-season, we signed LB Denzel Perryman. He was hurt and didn't practice at all. We cut him. People were glad that we did. The raiders picked him up and I think he even went to the pro-bowl. Those same people were now calling Rhule an idiot for cutting him.

I understand the criticisms for Rhule and they are valid but I do also see some positives.

Na, Rivera def got all this hate, problem was it was for only like a couple weeks. In 2013 between him losing to the bills to start the season 0-2 the calls for firing were at a fever pitch then they died down a bit when he went 1-2 the following week and came back full throttle when he went 1-3 against Arizona, I think even Steve Smith was talking poo after the Arizona game. That, ofc, was the last time until 2019 fans were begging for their Hc to be fired.

Whenever we start winning, I still have a feeling that people will still want Rhule to be fired.

  6. I will agree with some that this wasn't a competition at all. Why go out and get Baker if you were going to sit him on the bench? Why even try to get Watson if they were satisfied with Darnold?

I believe this was needed for Baker and the locker room. We don't know how the locker room felt about Baker. I assume they heard all the reports coming out him through the media. I am guessing that's why Robbie said "Nooooooo" about a report about Baker coming to Carolina. It could be possible that Darnold had supporters in the locker room. I don't know. I'm just speculating at this point.

This is revisionist history. I've seen each version of the huddle over the years going back to 2004 and John Fox and Ron Rivera absolutely got a lot of heat for various things including the positional coaches under them. Some people wanted Rivera shitcanned in his first season. This is in no way shape or form limited to Matt Rhule.

Fox and Rivera combined has not received the amount of vitriol like Rhule has gotten from fans.

Maybe on Facebook bro, the cesspool of discourse that you're accustomed to.  It wasn't that bad over here, not nearly as bad as Rhule.  There was no "Rivera Derangement Syndrome" where people straight up fabricate things about him to be pissed about.

You wouldn't know cause you supposedly weren't here during the Rivera days so I'm not sure why you keep commenting on it so confidently.

I was going to say the same thing. I've been coming to this board since 2003 and I have never seen John Fox or Ron Rivera get this type of hate. I vaguely remember people getting on Fox for saying "It is what it is" and saying "A punt is a good play" and the "run, run, run punt" rhetoric but it wasn't on the level that Rhule is getting now.

Well I'm just saying but the preseason overreaction thing with Panthers fans has been going on for years so yeah.

Rhule is not free from being criticize but do you think people criticizing him on this particular issue is a little bit over the top?

It's common knowledge that teams usually play starters in game 2 (game 3 in 4 game preseason) so that starters have time to rest, and any injuries can either be mended or the gameplan can be adjusted. I don't know why our fans are shielding Rhule for this oddball decision to play starters int he last game of the preseason, giving him less time to adjust going into the first game of the regular season.

Reading is fundamental. I don't think you read where someone posted the breakdown of teams that didn't play their starters last week. Hell, the Rams didn't play their starters at all last year in all 3 pre season games after getting a new QB in Stafford and won the whole damn thing.

If you want to say give him a chance because he's the head coach that's one thing. But if the main support of your argument is saying he can "coach" then you are expecting people to forget he is 3-9 in the division and watched his team get stomped by fired head coaches one of whom dumped on us with Daniel Jones.

See, I don't always poo your posts 😉

That's more like it. Teddy was on a higher end contract but it wasn't something that was going to hurt us for years. He was mediocre but if Matt had not panicked we would not have backed ourselves into a corner forcing the Darnold situation. This is all due to his own impatience and after much talk of a slow process rebuild initially too. All we have gotten the last two years is double talk and bad decisions followed in some cases by what become even worse decisions. So if all of this is true the criticism should not bother you.

The criticism does not bother me. I just don't believe he deserves as much he is getting. People are criticizing him because Buffalo is not playing their starters against ours 1s. lol wut? I don't think that's valid. That's the type of posts I poo.

If that's the case I haven't seen it. But if you made it through nine seasons of relentless personal barbs directed at Ron Rivera it's interesting you can't handle two seasons of criticism for Rhule who has yet to identify "his" quarterback capable of leading this team to success.

I don't post much is probably why you havent seen much.

I was very critical of Rhule of accepting the 5th year Option for Sam Darnold before he even played a snap. I was very critical of Rhule of how they got rid of Cam the first go round. They should have kept him instead of Teddy B. I did not want Teddy B at all. I didn't like the hiring of Joe Brady because he wasn't even the one calling plays at LSU lol

McVay hasn't played his starters at all this preseason nor does he ever play his starters in any preseason...including last year when they won the Super Bowl.  Even when they traded for a new quarterback in the offseason who presumably needed the extra reps to gel with his new receiving corps in a real game situation.  Sound familiar??

Sounds real familiar. I pretty sure it wasn't a big deal when McVay did it.

Teams that rested starters Week 2:

Panthers, Seahawks, Saints, Packers, Rams, Broncos, Lions, Colts, Raiders, 49ers, Vikings, Buccs, Titans, Cowboys, Chargers, Eagles, Browns, Bengals, Ravens, Cardinals, Jets = 21 teams

Teams that didn't rest starters Week 2:

Bears, Patriots, Texans, Bills (for one series), Commanders, Chiefs, Dolphins, Steelers, Jaguars, Giants, Falcons = 11 teams

"Most other teams" = 1/3 of the league?  This is what happens when you just mindlessly parrot the talking points you read on the Huddle.

You login every morning for the sole purpose of pooing posts critical of your Uncle Rhule with his 10-23 record. Don't act like you're any different.

I am critical of Rhule. I don't think he has done everything right. Just because I am not critical of Rhule like you and others are doesn't mean I am not critical of him.

And why do you care if I poo posts lol? If I think someone's post is shitty then I am going to poo it lol

    He doesn’t.

What he could have done was treat the 2nd preseason game like the dress rehearsal like most other teams due, which would have resulted in some of our 1’s getting work against another teams work in a live game setting.

he’s inept in every facet and thankfully we are another day closer to him being relieved of his duties as head coach.

McVay didn't play his starters in the 2nd pre-season game. What does that make him?
