We likely wouldn’t replace him for a while. We’d get players on offense.
Burns is the kind of player that would make a great defense elite but he can’t be an anchor. He needs to go somewhere where he can be a pass rush specialist that is ok against the run. Trade him for what you can get or let him test the market.

I wouldn’t be opposed. Availability is a big deal. Love him as a player but maybe his body can’t handle the NFL. Not to mention he’s probably be training for this his whole life. Maybe his body was overworked as an adolescent or teenager. Just thinking out loud.

Good players leaving dysfunctional teams is always a win/win

I'd agree, and I'd add what he's saying to him here is actually pretty good advice.
Hell, I wouldn't mind having Rivera on board as a defensive consultant or something like that.
Good idea. I think Tepper appoints him as director of clock management reporting directly to him lol

I agree 100%. Throw in some mid vet or draft pick that wins a few meaningless games at the end causing us to miss the next QB in the draft and see how the fans react.
These comments are soothing. Let’s all settle in for a crummy but productive 2024 and wait for this to all blow over.

Even if I believe that Young can be a starter, is his ceiling that of the first overall pick? If the answer is "no," we're wasting time IMO. We're hoping that in a perfect world that we'll be able to build a team around him and drop someone else in to get the job done. That rarely works as planned.
I definitely agree. I don’t want to be apathetic but I hope we can just not swing for the fences this offseason but also get better? Maybe try to help Young too?
For a new coach maybe we can go heavy on short term vet FAs he likes then focus on O line in the draft.
I agree we are probably wasting time but I just feel like 2 years is always the plan with a rookie QB like that. Young is very mature/smart and no doubt a hard worker so I assume they’ll try to keep investing in him for this built in wasted year.
I totally agree though I would love if they decided a 5’10” gun-shy QB probably won’t work out and move on. I can’t wait to have a tall strong armed QB again. I feel for Young but I hope he can hold his head high regardless.

I think the nature of a super high QB pick just means we’re gonna double down for 1 more year no matter what.
im ok with it as long as they have plans to move on, struggling rookies usually don’t turn it around to be a franchise QB in my experience and Young was pretty bad

Florio notoriously despises Tepper. This is expected from him.
Florio is to Tepper as JT O'Sullivan is to Thielen lol
hahahaha I already forgot about those

I won’t argue the optics of hiring a person involved with the worst FO in franchise history.
I just don’t understand getting upset at Dan for accepting the job offer.
IMO Tepper could hire the resurrected corpses of Vince Lombardi, Tom Landry and Chuck Knoll and they’d still fail b/c Tepper is cancer.
Definitely happy for Morgan. It’d be great if it works out.

Why are we making this harder than it is? With Tepper in the building can you really evaluate the people he hires? He just overrules their decisions with his own, unless they do what he was already planning to do. Does that mean Dan will be good or bad? Who knows? But how can you blame him? We have no idea what decisions he’ll actually be allowed to make.
I’m fine being optimistic because it’s hard to see the point in letting sports entertainment make you too miserable. It’s just internal vs external.
How can we justify keeping anyone from the front office that was building the team?
Just feels like we picked someone with no potential.

Like forreal, additionally it doesn’t matter who he hires as GM the huddle was going to label them a yes man.
The AGM standing up to the GM? Does it matter, the GM is gonna do what they “feel is best” anyways. That’s like the QB coach overruling the OC on play calls.. imagination land.
Hiring internally is what has the Huddle all uppity. External hire you could at least have hope and looking forward to FA, the draft, and contracts with a little bit of “new guy” optimism.
Internal hire scares me a lot. Nothing has worked so far and we hired the person most adjacent to all of it. Just feels like a conventionally bad idea that you can’t defend if it doesn’t work out.

God we are so fuged. That entire presser shows how fuging out of touch he is.
I mean that was the season for optimistic pressers. Do any other orgs speak that differently?

We to just just calm down and stink for a bit. Build up a culture.

But he’s never gone internal before. This is a new strategy. Didn’t he hire a firm to help him? What if this was their suggestion?
That’s a great angle to frame it honestly, hope it works out!

Neither do any of the people here claiming he’s a yes man and a disaster of a hire.
I don’t like to be overly negative I guess people are just not excited. An internal hire has Teppers poop finger prints all over it. Doesn’t feel like he’s learned anything going internally.

Hiring internally when it’s been 6 years of crap is shocking.

What they should do and what they will do are the exact same thing. If this fanbase had their way we would have given up Derrick Brown after year 1.
Didn’t he look good year 1? And he’s mostly been good even in the slumps?

Never understood the point of blowing up a perennial playoff team.
I think there is something to be said about getting ahead of cap issues etc.
but yeah it’s probably a little silly.

The absolute cognitive dissonance the sports media has with Cam infuriates me to no end. Absolutely embarassing to even mention Kaep when Cam Newton's on the field success has shown so much more than he ever had.
The same sports media that claims Cam Newton isn't a pocket passer - despite a large majority of his snaps being in the pocket! - and then saying bullpoo like this.
Cam created a new paradigm on defense that accounted for running QBs, and was an absolute beast in every way.
Shame on the media for bringing down one of the most polarizing and talented QBs of this generation.
I always thought Kap would have gone deep to the playoffs more often, I’m surprised he seemed to get figured out. Or maybe it was injuries. I know he got blacklisted too but I kept thinking he was going to win one pretty quickly

I don't give a fug what anybody says, I would STILL take Cam back with open arms right now. Miss that dude so damn much. He brought an energy to Charlotte that will never be replicated.
Yeah I’d be happy to watch us go 6-10 while Cam tries to spam his way to the all time rush TD record lol. Prob wouldn’t get there but it would be fun.
I sort of wished we just played Armanti Edward’s in 2010, even if it sucked he would have been fun

I would think he’s likely gone. If the coach thinks he can build around Young we are sunk. Maybe they’ll say it just to be PC and get their guy the next year.
This team still needs to be torn down. So tired of taking these desperate shots. I’d be much happier to let a coach get settled then take a shot.

I’m surprised at the ire expressed at Burns here. He needs to look out for himself and make as much as he can. It doesn’t matter if he earned it or not, he is worth what teams are willing to pay. He’s 100% right that there is no way he’s the #1 priority when we don’t have a coach or a GM yet.
We bungled the deal entirely by not extending him sooner or trading him.

Draft nothing but offensive lineman at any/every position. Sign a WR in FA. Trade burns for picks.
