No. There are 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL. It's maybe the most premium position in all of sports, other than starting QB in the NFL. The idea "noone wanted the job" is laughable, and if true, says way more about how far behind this franchise is. I believe players dont want to come here because of who we are and the city, which is why we just overpaid Phillips. But coaches / grownups don't care about that stuff. This team made a massive mistake hiring Canales, and until they fix it, we will be 8-9 at best. -
He was hired because there was no one that wanted the job. Tepper and Bryce Young in early 2024 after that 2023 season? People they wanted to hire were ducking out of the way. It was openly discussed that maybe we would need to hire one that wasn’t ready and let him grow into the job. And that is what they did.
