I get that and it's not really an uncomfortable truth to me, it's just not an accurate statement. Like, I could say Zach Wilson had one of the best seasons by a veteran QB because he was one of the league leaders in fourth-quarter comebacks. That would be ridiculous, right? But it's the same principle: take one metric and use it as gospel. At the end of the day I'm no more tethered to Bryce Young than I was to any of his predecessors. He'll win games, or he'll get replaced.

I appreciate your unwavering commitment to hyperbole and yes, saying he had one of the worst rookie seasons ever is indeed hyperbole, because what you've shared above is one metric in a sea of them. That's like saying a guy who had a slightly positive TD-INT ratio had one of the greatest seasons of all time. Clearly no one's going to change your mind, which is great, because that's not what I'm trying to do. Have a great one.

I never forgot it, because there can't be many NFL guys whose alma mater was their last name. -

Freddie Lane, 1997. -
I wanted to keep him too, but for better or worse the team has hitched its wagon to four RBs already and he wasn't one. A UDFA's always gonna have a long shot at best to make a team that spent its second pick on someone at the same position, and that doesn't take into consideration the starter is back.

Probably doing Johnson a favor. The longer he was here, the more RB3/RB4 spots were going to dry up around the league.

I went from being significantly invested for decades, to becoming a casual who hopes for a win or two every year. If not, well, whatever. I tuned in to the first half this past week with my dad, my wife and kid, but I don't foresee watching a ton of regular season play. More important stuff to do.

That's not accurate. A 15-play, 86-yard drive to win is an earned win.

I wore my Wesley Walls jersey today. I love getting compliments on it. Plus, at least this was a competitive game.

What is the benefit to benching starters for the preseason?

Bryce looked good in preseason against the Lions last year. Did that translate? -
The Jets Joint Practice Thread: HOT Take Edition
Joe Bear replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
HOT TAKE (?): Bryce Young was the best QB on the field today. SUPER-REALISTIC TAKE: Preseason games may eventually be replaced with scrimmages. -
There are many examples, because you're skipping over a lot of seasons (and a few winning ones). But the most notable for me was Luke picking off Russell Wilson and returning it for a touchdown in the 2015 NFC Divisional Playoff against the Seahawks. The stadium was shaking, it was so loud and active.

Hell, players rallied around Sam Darnold in December of 2022 (a.k.a. "the one month it was fun to be a fan and we were maybe good" in the last 5 years). I don't know how good a leader Darnold is, and unless we're on the inside, most of our opinions are rooted in personal bias or hopium. I'm rooting for Bryce, for sure. I don't think it'll make much difference, but I know of at least one example when a non-rookie Panther QB stunk up camp and the preseason, had people thinking he didn't earn the starting job, and then he started the season off well and put up better numbers than expected. (He also wore No. 9). -

I think that's an emotionally driven opinion. I've read multiple stories of Young doing things consummate with leadership. I wouldn't conflate my dislike of someone into such a strong confirmation bias that a leaf falling in front of me would trigger the thought "that leaf is as weak as Bryce Young, who also can't throw deep, lead an army of minnows into a bucket, or outrun a parked car. Also he's as small as a minnow" but it seems there are some on here who might think that way.
