  1. In two years when he's a free agent again I can see him signing a big contract with his hometown team or to some destination location, but in the meantime there's no team in the league that can raise his stock more than the Panthers. I can't think of a more nationally infamous o-line and if the unit improves at all it would make him a star at his position overnight. That's way more appealing than getting a ring on the bench or a short drive home in your first two seasons.

  2. Assuming a rival fan doesn't know enough about your team is ignorant. I know plenty about the Panthers, and about the improvements made towards the end of the year.

At the end of the day, we're a couple of fans 7 win teams hoping that changes made this offseason translate on the field.

I just assume Saints fans don't know much of anything. It hasn't failed me yet.

  3. I don't subscribe to this idea that there's a universal big board for the whole league. "BPA" is subjective and varies from team-to-team. Shaq is a possibly great player but now he has to prove that he was the best for the Panthers.

I don't hate the pick. I just worry that even if the Panthers drafted Luke's clone it wouldn't do much for this team when the holes are so glaring.

  4. Taking a guy who's a suspension risk is not "caring more about winning".

As Gettleman said, it's hard enough building a roster without worrying that a key player is a 'time bomb'.

Taking time to evaluate a potential game changer is caring more about winning. I'd have no problem with them passing on him if they did that.

  5. I think that it's a little early to label DGB as the next Gordon or Blackmon. I believe that he has apparently been clean for a longer period than either one of them when they entered the league (or while they have been in the league). Stereotyping is really not productive on a lot of levels. Moreover, I can easily understand why some would not have anything to do with him, but I also understand why someone would be willing to take a chance on him. Neither position is inherently crazy or stupid. It is a judgment call.

I agree but this is why it's upsetting that the Panthers are just ignoring him. Unless they've got the scoop that he's definitely going before 25, there's no excuse to not at least meet the kid before you make that call.

Usually I hate the "not serious about winning" poo but it's hard to not feel that way when the possible answer to our prayers in a tall, speedy WR comes along and the organization seems like they don't even want to consider him.

  6. I am sorry, does anyone else notice a pattern from certain posters here?

This is spot-on but to be fair to this crowd I don't think they ignore the team weaknesses. They seem to believe that a "franchise QB" should be able to overcome them and if Cam can't we should find someone who should.

I get it but I think that's just flawed logic. The Panthers' weaknesses as a team are so anti-QB that there's no one in the league that I can confidently say could have done more than Cam has, and that's a testament to his talent. There's always room for improvement and no one has ever suggested otherwise.

  7. Let's say they really are interested yet again in Nicks. What is this organization's fetish for going after so many homegrown guys and guys that went to schools within spitting distance of Charlotte? If we signed Boykin and Nicks, we would have *3* receivers from Charlotte: one that went to Charlotte Latin, one at Butler, one at Independence. We're constantly the only ones interested in App State players. So many players on the roster that went to college in North or South Carolina and Georgia.

I'd imagine it's mostly fan support and the small extra bargaining chip the hometown team gets. Apples and oranges here but look at Lebron and Cleveland.

Also it's just easier to scout in proximity, especially for small schools like App that might be overlooked completely otherwise.

  8. Losing your mother is a terrible thing and I don't know DeAngelo Williams personally, so I'm would not dare assume that he would do something as terrible as lie about it for his own gain. Regardless, context is everything and the timing of this from him is disappointing and exploitative towards the fans and this franchise.

I feel for his loss. I can't respect how he brought it up on his way out the door like a scorned lover instead of mentioning it at any point during the nine illustrious years he had with the franchise, including public moments the franchise specifically dedicated to his mother. It hurts as a fan because I thought he was better than that.

  9. Did he play RB or did he come in just to carry the ball?  What I mean by that is that there is a lot more to playing RB in the NFL than just carrying the football.  Being able to pass protect is one of the key ones, especially if you have Byron Bell playing LT.

He rushed for 1000+ yards and 15 TDs in high school. Can't find much about college except one game where he was put in and got 150 yds on 10 carries. He seems like a very capable backup at the very least.
