Smitty puts the blame yesterday all on the OL
pantherj replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Everything went wrong. If Sam didn't turn into Jets Sam we win. If the o-line played better, we win. If the defense played better, we win. Hell even the special teams pooped the bed with the punt block. Sam is not going to elevate this team. Sam can drive the bus down the road, but he can't get out and push it. The rest of the team has make Sam look better and relieve him of the pressure and burden of trying to make a lot of throws. You don't want him attempting a lot of throws because that's when the INTs are likely to show up. We basically have to dominate the other team in all areas, and then Sam will steer the ship into the harbor. When it's a dogfight and we're struggling I expect Sam to destroy his underwear with a Taco Bell style accident. -
Had we won who were you going to give the game ball to?

Jackson. Peanut punch and badass interception. Dude was balling out there while dopey Darnold threw poop. -
We need a great QB. If that means Watson then go for it. If that means the draft, then pick your target and make a move. Sam might lead us to 8-9 limbo this season, or it might be might much worse if CMC is injured. I want the best player on this team to be our QB, not our RB. CMC is small and delicate, and he's lived a lovely pampered life. He's not that guy who is just this junkyard dog who crawled out of hell and is ready for punishment to escape poverty. CMC is always going have a nagging this, or a hurting that. We need to expect that he's going to miss a lot of games from here on out. We don't have to be a team that depends entirely on on CMC just to be decent. The blueprint of building up the defense is not working. You saw what will happen if you try to stifle a popular team's offense. The refs let the o-line hold. Now what? You lose. Even if they don't hold the D will get tired and take plays off. What we need, and I have said this since Cam fell apart, is a potent offense, and a scrappy cheap defense. Instead the team I hate the most, the Cowboys, have that and we have the opposite. Step 1: Find a great QB. Step 2: Build a brick wall o-line. Step 3: Add weapons if needed. Step 4: Check to make sure the defense is still cheap. Something like that. Rhule's plan: Step 1: Bring in a vet QB who is unproven. Step 2: Patchwork poop o-line. Step 3: Add a weapon if he's a steal. Step 4: LOAD UP THE DEFENSE! All your CBs are MINE! Draft picks EVERYWHERE! God help us.

Darnold might be the next one out the door

The middle of that line is almost certainly gone as soon as it makes financial sense to dump them. Sam has until the end of the season to shape up. Taking a cap hit dumping him hurts, but it has to be done immediately if he poops the bed this season. You don't want two lost seasons to try and save face and cap money. No single contract is worth a lost season. -
Watching Rashawn Slater be great makes me sad and angry.

21 for 37 if you want something literal. Just felt like a lot of opportunities missed. -

Although I thought we would take Slater on draft day, and I hadn't even thought about Horn. -

Sam had what dozens opportunities to throw the ball with good protection and blew it. The o-line wasn't throwing all those poop bombs. -
It's tough when your best player is a RB. Casual fans want to see a QB put on a show, but Sam looks like the 32nd best QB in the NFL when CMC isn't out there.
-
If Darnold continues this level of play then yes I agree a major losing streak is coming.
-
This game was a reminder that we are still only in year two of the rebuild. Sam is still becoming accustomed to the offense, and he's under a lot of pressure from poor o-line play. The team overall is very young, so this isn't by any means the finished product, not to mention CMC and Horn being out. Add CMC, Horn, and a lot of maturing and you have a much better team. That's me being positive.

I was glad to see Brady finally out there even though he was a little jumpy and jittery. Now we need to build the middle of the line, and find a better QB. Watson anyone?
-
This is Darnold in a nutshell. You have to build an outstanding on every level mega team, a once a decade loaded roster, to DRAG Darnold to the playoffs and possibly the SB. He's an anchor dragging at the bottom of the ocean and you have to pull him along. I don't put any faith in waiting for a "one shining moment" mega team. It can happen, but why in hell would that be the blueprint. We need a QB who elevates the rest of the team and can take over by consistently making plays.
-
I actually think Teddy would have won that game, but I don't want Teddy here either. We need a great QB.
-
There is something wrong with Darnold clearly. Now I can see it. I see why the Jets didn't want him anymore. I'll tell you one thing for now. Sam will start his progression and look at his first read, and sometimes his first read will be open, or even wide open, and he will skip that receiver and continue with his progression for no good reason. He does that regularly so much that I've noticed it.
-
Sam messed up and or missed so many plays out there that we should have had like 50 points. A great QB would have put a 50 burger on that Eagles team.
-
Watson will be traded at some point. We need to be in on the trade. We're not winning a SB with Darnold. He has looked good sometimes mostly because of CMC. Without CMC he mostly looks like Jets Darnold, and we can't rely on CMC to stay healthy. We need a better QB. It sucks to say that and I wanted him to be the guy. Now we have enough evidence, and he's not that guy.
-
Depends. Is CMC going to play the rest of the season? We're terrible without him on offense.
-
Sam loves the short quick stuff like Teddy
-
Finally a screen we adjusted!!!!!

Our offense looks top 5 worst without CMC
