  1. have you read his current series? the lightbringer series (i think)? really good... haven't read the night angel trilogy yet, but haven't been reading much lately either
  2. Ready Player One was a great book... I started reading Cline's Armada just this past weekend. It's not as good as Ready Player One was so far, but it's still good. He's another one of those authors that once you've read him once and start reading another of his books, you get sucked right in to that same feeling/environment that he creates in his books. The Atlantis Gene has been on my list forever as well, but I can never seem to find it in my local used book store where I pick up most books. Let me know how it is when you're done.
  3. yep, saw that news on his blog when he posted it... shall be awesome only issue with it imo is that rothfuss is already taking forever to get book three out... this is only going to slow things down
  4. can anybody recap what happened up until the field goal...? why asheville can't have it's own FOX affiliate that doesn't need to hear about upstate SC's flooding during a game is beyond me
  5. boo on the lynch news... where do you get updates on him? I can never find anything if you havent read brent weeks' llightbringer series, its great. Read book one on a whim, really enjoyed it. Bought book two with the intention of bringing it out to san francisco on my vacation im on now, but ended up plowing through it in three days because I didnt put it down book three comes out in paperback the day I get home and ill be grabbing it then
  6. I cringed when I saw bryan Strickland tweet it yesterday
  7. the book is being made into a film and directed by Spielberg... should be pretty good
  8. found a hardcover copy of Brent Weeks's The Black Prism at my local used book store for $5 so far, i'm really impressed with it. this has always been a book that's been suggested to me through Amazon and Good Reads, I've just never found it on a shelf anywhere that wasn't a mass market paperback characters are pretty interesting so far... locations and nationalities/races are also interesting... and the magic system is pretty smart. I don't usually like fantasy that relies too heavily on crazy magic systems, but this one is interesting and reminds me a lot of Sanderson's Mistborn series. i'm about 200 pages in at this point (about a 1/3 of the way through... BIG book), and i'd definitely recommend it off of everything I've read so far. good stuff
  9. half of reading a book is the experience of holding the book in your hand and flipping the page
  10. not yet... I've been trying to break myself of the habit of just ordering books from Amazon and have started shopping mostly at a used book store locally, and that's too new to be on their shelves yet. I do have it on my list of books to read though and will keep an eye out for it whenever i'm at a B&N... although, it's probably just like Wool and not in mass production
  11. nice... didn't realize that there was a release date set for the next Gentleman Bastard series. glad you liked Slow Regard... it's definitely a different book, but if you like Rothfuss, then you'll definitely like it. he's so self-deprecating in the forward and blog posts about the book and how weird and out there he tries to make it seem, but I think it fits perfectly in the world and series that he's created what else have I read since this thing archived...? finished the Howey books... they were good, but I feel like some of shift and dust could have been taken out and it could have been turned into one larger book. i'll definitely pick up some more of his stuff. I actually saw that wool was on the shelves at Barnes & Noble the other day, which is awesome for him, because I was originally told that through his weird publishing company that they were only printing books as they were being ordered. so, either the books gotten enough credit now that it's being mass published or the local B&N just grabbed a bunch since he's a semi-local boy (and it's an awesome book) The Martian - this is real good and highly popular right now. interesting, different story, plus it's going to be a movie soon, so worth the read. possibly ridley scott's next movie too, I think? Ready Player One - this book is AWESOME. imagine WoW or The Sims has taken over the world and everyone plays. So good and Stephen Spielberg is directing the film adaptation. Redwall - haven't read this since 5th grade and found it for super cheap at my awesome local used books store. still as good as when I read it the first time. it's a classic for a reason and now i'm going to start reading the whole series, which I never did as a kid American Gods - I like this book, but it was a bit weird and had a very meandering story, which surprised me considering how much praise this book has gotten.
  12. last waltz...? impressive personally: -string cheese incident - rothbury festival 2009 -the dead - rothbury festival 2009 -beastie boys - bonnaroo 2009 (very memorable because my wife and i distinctly noticed a strange vibe to the guys, no energy... pretty much the following month they announced MCA had cancer) -flaming lips - all good festival 2012 (less to do with music and more to do with my less than sober-ness_ -furthur - all good festival 2013 (surrounded by some of my favorite people and a whole lot of love... great night)
  13. it's better for some people's huddle ego if they can spout off information like they know what went on, even when they don't
  14. i was up in Canton, NY a few years ago on a business trip there was a bar with an old picture hanging on the wall... it was a snow scene with just a guy sitting on what looked like a fire hydrant/log. when they asked the bartender about it, he said, "oh no... that guys sitting on top of a telephone pole."
  15. woke up to a very light dusting this morning in South Asheville... looks like it might even just be little drifts of sleet instead of actual snow high today is only 31
  16. just received my copy of Patrick Rothfuss' The Slow Regard of Silent Things... I was expecting Hugh Howey's Shift and Dust and forgot that my pre-order should have been showing up around the same time. both came packaged together, so that was a nice little surprise Howey's going to have to wait
  17. LOCKN festival live stream http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nnjimmy/theater
  18. finished The Lies of Locke Lamora the other night... very solid ending. overall, this is one of my favorite books that i've read lately, easily i should have the other two books by next Friday... can't wait to tear into them
  19. you sonofabitch... now I'm going to get stuck every time I read his name
  20. but the first way is healthier
  21. Amazon says TSRoST doesn't come out until 10/26 or 10/28... hopefully it's not that long, and now that I think about it, I hope Amazon doesn't hold the other books until that's out to ship them wouldn't that be a bitch? I just ordered RSURS because I've got less than 100 pages of Lies of Locke Lamora and then they hold on to it until TSRoST comes out... that would probably be my luck lol
  22. fuging Amazon... they've got a good thing going with their $35+ orders = free shipping. good for them anyway... not so much for me just pre-ordered The Slow Regard of Silent Things and ordered Red Seas Under Red Skies, The Republic of Thieves, Hyperion and Wool.
