So you think a 30 year old, 1st year OC, walked in the door to a new job and became the reason why they signed Bridgewater?

Is it the determining factor, probably not. However, it is well documented he was in support of it. The argument for Teddy over Cam made sense, UNTIL you turn on tape. Problem is the tape on Cam was injury riddled for 18 & 19.

I think most educated fans knew it was a bad move, but transition wise for the team Teddy's contract isn't detrimental and the first thing I thought was 3 years, means he's gone after 2 years. It's a lot easier for a rookie QB to replace Teddy, than it would be to have replaced Cam.

This was the best way to lose games, while winning some. Teddy even in NO was limited in those starts as a passer, NO just had a much more complimentary roster. I mean imagine a healthy Cam with our guys on offense now and behind what was actually one of the better Panther OL when all the ''starters'' started.

This could be absolutely nothing and just the wrong choice of words to be using. But he says he was being let go cuz of a “rebuild”...now we all know we were super close to trading for Stafford which is the opposite of a rebuild. And a ton of people are still holding on to the hope we get Watson. But “rebuild” isn’t the term I’d equate to going after Watson. Falls more in line with drafting.

I also realize management doesn’t  have to tell Tre their plans on whether they are rebuilding or if they are simply retooling. Just found that reasoning interesting and wanted to get ur thoughts.

    Rebuilding the backend 👍

    It's a double-edged sword though.

If Hurts is not the guy, they draft a quarterback.

If Hurts is the guy, they potentially trade the pick to someone else who drafts a quarterback.

Or they do neither and take the BPA at OL / WR, let's include all three options ''triple-edge sword''. Their OL is old and they may be able to take Sewell / Slater at that spot.

They're WR room is old as well Jackson / Jeffrey (Goodwin opt out) -- Jalen Reagor about the only bright spot at that position for them (maybe Fulgham as well) -- Waddle / Chase / Smith all have a chance to be there as well.

So while I'm not saying they won't take a QB / or trade back, they don't have to do those things either.

  4. But we got one more morale win, I understand the coach / player perspective on ''winning'' meaningless games. Personally I think they just wanted to beat Ron, as we clearly sat it down the rest of the way IMO.

I think they were already prepared to do what is needed to bring in a different QB via trade / draft day (trading up if necessary).

My question is what does this do to PHI's cap considering the guaranteed money?

That is not correct. Wyoming is a division 1 school. North Dakota state is a division 2 school. Just in Josh Allen's final year at Wyoming, they played Iowa, Oregon, Boise State, San Jose state, Fresno State and Air Force. Most if not all of these teams are often ranked in the top 25 (division 1 AP and coach's poll rankings).

Take a look at the teams regularly on ND's schedule, and you will see they play much worse competition.

I'm not saying Trey Lance can't end up being a good NFL player, but he has played very low level competition in college. Even playing an SEC team or some like Clemson would be a tremendous step up in talent - now imagine the jump in talent from a division 2 college to the NFL.

You Wilson nut huggers don't seem to get it, you're not DRAFTING THE SCHOOL the young man plays at, you are drafting the player, stats, D1, 2 etc. is great to argue about, but at the end of the day does the young man have NFL talent.

Lance does, anyone that breaks the film down can attest, he's going to have the ability to survive behind a weak OL, and similar to Fields not only can he make all the throws, he can be a featured part of the run game. Wilson is talented, but you're not drawing up designed runs for him. With a weaker OL the offense will need layers, when you have to worry about a mobile QB that can finish runs, CMC, and Robby, and DJ as well that opens up the offense and alleviates pressure on the OL with the right calls by the OC.

Josh Allen is as big as Cam almost (6'5 / 237), and Fields (6'3 / 228), and Lance (6'4 / 226 ) are right there as well, they are built to take NFL hits / sacks. That part of the game is inevitable, Wilson is built closer to Teddy Bridgewater at 6'3 under 210, that's a big difference when you consider a players availability. When guys play at lower levels you want to see the DOMINATE the competition like Chinn did at a small school, and like Lance did at NDSU.

Fields then Lance are my preferences whether by trade or one being available at #8. Wilson is talented, but for me he's too small. Even Brady is listed at 6'4 / 225. You cannot be thin back there taking these hits.

As always, depends on what we give up.  Trey Lance scares the absolute crap out of me.  I really don't want us to settle for him.

No real difference than Josh Allen out of a smaller school in Wyoming, and he was 7th overall...Baker and Donald went ahead of him, then Rosen at 10.

That's when you have to believe you have the staff in place to 1) develop, and 2) put real weapons, and OL around a young QB talent to let him mature.

If we could keep our picks, and Lance was available at 8 I'd be happy, his stock would be higher if he'd had a 2020 season. Elite athleticism, and arm talent to go with our full slate of picks allows us to trade back in the subsequent rounds with more opportunities to land some quality rookies.

  7. Considering we were willing to shop #8 and then some for Stafford, I think this regime will do all it can to trade up and draft the next face of the franchise. #3, or #5 since a trade with ATL at #4 is out of the question.

I still can't see NYJ taking a QB at #2, Darnold was billed highly and NYJ has been a dumpster fire since he's been there from a coaching perspective, with some knock it out the prospects available if I'm the NYJ I'm inclined to pick a stud (Sewell / Smith / Chase), or trade back and accumulate more picks inside the top 10-15 if a partner is available since they have a franchise capable yet to be proven QB on the roster with three years left at rookie pay.

I thought the 2022 QB class was limited as well but a few 2021 possibles are returning, and if they develop, this could be a better class than in 2021.  Let's face it, in 2021 we have 4 QBs and some other question marks.  In 2022, I see 4 top QBs, but none with Trevor's skill set, but the top 4 in 2022 as it stands now could compete with the 3 other first round QBs, Fields, Lance, and Wilson.  I think the following will be first round selections:

    Spencer Rattler Oklahoma

    Sam Howell North Carolina

    Jayden Daniels Arizona State

     Kedon Slovis Southern California

    JT Daniels Georgia

    Tyler Shough Oregon

These 3 QBs have  potential, and they could rise with a good 2021 season:
    Desmond Ridder Cincinnati
    Brock Purdy Iowa State
    Tanner Morgan, Minnesota
So I see 2022 as a good year for QBs, but they are different animals-not all fit all systems.  I would say the depth is going to be better, but the star quality is a bit underwhelming at this time.

Don't want any of them, Fields, or Lance are my preference. They have star+ potential, and elite NFL athleticism to go with their arm talent. Considering we will be building the OL over a year or so, a guy that can escape and make plays off schedule is a must.

This would be a no brainer. The real question though (and more realistic one) is what if it is between Lance and Slater?

You take the QB, it's been made clear that TB isn't it, and the 2022 QB class is limited, we are likely not picking inside the top 10 again next off-season. You take the QB while he's there, we're going to have substantial cap space after this season.

First time I can recall that a SB was in essence bought by bringing in a surge of FA players

    Brady

    Gronk

    AB

    Fournette

    Suh

Never thought this was a formula for success but when done right and when a team has a base compliment of players

In a normal FA period you can't pay all those guys what the woudl normally cost:

AB - Minimum contract after he ruined his own value

Fournette - Minimum contract after he pulled a Moss in JAX and got released

Suh - Aging vet at less than premium

    Gronk - at a respectable rate after a trade of a 4th

TB12 - at 25M, which is substantially less than the current QB ''re-sign'' market value which is 35M+ for ''franchise QB's''

It also showed the importance of good TEs

Panthers don’t  have one of those either

Kelce dropping passes and Gronk catching but both were targeted often

Ian Thomas was solid when he replaced Olsen in 2018 as a rookie, Teddy, or this offense just don't feature TE usage. https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/4045305/ian-thomas

Then 2019 Olsen returns, and Cam is hurt all year, and in 2020 he's the 5th option if that with a QB that doesn't look past the sticks hardly.

Wouldn't it make sense then to sign Samuel to a slot WR contract and find a rookie outside guy in the draft, economically speaking?  As far as production, Robbie in a new system allowed him to have some nice game early in the season, but it seemed once teams got tape on how he was being used here in Carolina, his production fell off.

Because Teddy can't lead receivers on the vertical route...even Robbie voiced it in his final presser, and I paraphrase ''hopefully we can do more with me DOWN THE FIELD''.

Go look it up when you get time.

Idk how remmers is still in the nfl, as a de you can get whatever you want against him

Because there are no tackle reserves in the NFL. Think about how long even Byron Bell hung around after being cut. It's a real lack of talent, so damn near anyone with ''tackle experience'' is considered for a roster.

It's why I can see the trade up for Little, maybe he has busted but he had high grades from pretty much all scouting sources, and the thing is if he'd worked out that's a solid tackle on a rookie deal. We haven't HAD the cap to pay a upper tier T, so that was the only move we had, and the guy Buffalo got is a pure RT, not a left.

IMO, we should have taken Ford, and moved Moton to LT as he played that in college as well. It's why we traded for Okung, one to get away from Trai's 2 remaining years versus Okung's 1 remaining year opening more cap sooner, and he was actually a quality LT. He was just injured all damn year.

  14. Lol, Chiefs didn't overlook the OL, they had THREE STARTERS out due to injury. Depth at the OL is nigh impossible to cover that many injuries on any team since quality OL that aren't being paid are scarce.

It was a fortunate matchup for TB, and one any seasoned football fan could see before the game started, similar to our defense in 2013 with the Hardy / Johnson duo, sit on the short routes, and let the front eat.

That's what TB did, because the injuries allowed them too.
