he already answered that question honestly a few weeks back and it wasn't well received.

he got away from football, spent a lot of time alone and watched Netflix and you tube.   He eventually added back in working out in the morning.   I mean, the honest answer doesn't make you feel good about a struggling rookie QB with a host of issues.

Oh god I missed that. Glad I did.

A bit on the homer side but I wouldn’t hate it. Those stats mean we will win more games.

That’s the last thing we need. Stumble our way to a couple of pointless victories

If Bryce shows legit potential (doubtful) then win all the games you want.

But if we’re winning games like we did with Sam Darnold then that does us no good at all

propping up Canales and calling him an innovator for having a bottom half offense in a horrible horrible division is pretty wild

Ive said all along Dave is a fine hire.  A fine hire.  The best tepper could do under the circumstances that he created.  But if you dont see the major red hurricane level beach flags with this hire then you are blind.  I hope it works, I really do but come on.......

Takes 5 mins to hop on YT throw on some Baker highlights and see that a lot of Baker’s big completions aren’t balls Young will throw or quite frankly is capable of throwing

Canales isn’t a Bobby Slowik where he’s scheming guys wide ass open

Didn’t they win a playoff game?

Also Baker was in the same decision the prior year and sucked so bad he was cut…

Baker was never as bad as this organization made him look. I said that countless times during that year. Baker had enough tape in Cleveland that proved he wasn’t as bad as he was here.

And again, Mike Evans consistently winning 1 on 1 opens up sooooo much for an offense.

Plus the division is literally garbage

Honestly, irrespective of Bryce, this is my hope for Canales.

I hate hearing about him being a "QB whisperer." Because I don't give a rat's ass about him saving Bryce's career. Bryce either proves to be worth what we gave up for him, or it's next man up.

I'm just excited to have a young, innovative offensive mind.

How did this “innovative” narrative start with Canales? Just because he’s young?

He truly wants to run the ball and nothing Tampa did last year was all that creative. Mike Evans ability to win 1 on 1 does wonders for an offense as a whole

And I have been a big XL guy/fan.  He know doubt was drafted because he fits a role that is in all the Os Canales has been around.

my concern is Bryce, and it’s probably not a talent issue on this aspect.  Just a QB DNA thing.  I really think Canales and XL pair best with a gunslinger/risk taker.   You want to limit gunslinger with the run but then need the QB to go downfield aggressively.

Bryce needs to simply play and be more aggressive downfield.   Which is easier said than done if not wired that way

Sam Howell could’ve been had for free

  7. We’ve already seen Young’s limitations come out. It’s clear he’s scheme dependant. So what’re we even doing here?

We’re talking about creating a run first offense with big time protection in the middle to create a clean pocket?

You can drop just about any QB not named Sam Darnold into a situation like this and they’d have some degree of success.

I hope we’re in position to take another QB next year. Re set the 5 year rookie QB contract window and try again

Still, I enjoyed its meager rewards compared to the reality of 2023, I promise you that. Better than Baker’s first two games that year too. And the year before and the year....

I didn’t. Those “meager rewards” had us winning meaningless games at the end of the year.

I rather go 0-17 than 7-10 playing that style of football with Bryce. We’d be right back in the same position. Drafting 8-10 range needing a QB

If Bryce is THAT bad that we have to resort to playing that style then they’re better off letting Bryce drop back and lead us to our next bust at QB

not directed at you per se, but he has had elite coaching, elite training and gone to elite camps since the 8th grade.  Why would this off season be any different?  He is who he is at this point and the fact that he joked about binging netflix all off season kindof shows his true colors

Yeah… I really thought he’d take adding muscle seriously. Everyone talked about this kid like he’s extremely mature/professional/smart… I kind of assumed he’d eventually get to a true 205 but he’s clearly content at 185 or whatever the hell he is

My concern is his horrible accuracy and slow decision making. These can be improved I guess. Arm strength can be schemed around but it’s definitely a handicap.

arm strength also helps make up for slow decision making. Due to Young’s lack of arm strength he has to be a step ahead at all times.

Sure sounds like we’re going to be a run first team this year. Probably look a lot like we did with Darnold and Wilks.

    fun times

Ladd is going to be primarily slot. He struggles with press because of his size.

    • Modest play strength could create issues in beating press.
    • Limited production in 2023 due to back and ankle injuries.
    • Alarming number of deep ball-tracking drops in 2022.
    • Average acceleration driving through route stems.

He might not be sudden enough to beat press and will need to prove he has enough play strength to finish contested catches against tight man

They all have strengths and weaknesses. We need X or outside WRs though. AT is slot at this stage in his career, Mingo is best at slot, adding a 3rd slot while needing outside WRs wasn’t a route we were wanting to do. AD, XL, and Coleman were the WRs that we could have picked where we drafted. I personally preferred AD but XL has a lot to like.

XL isn’t exactly lightning quick. He’s more fast than quick.

XL’s against press in college weren’t good.

XL has A LOT of work to do if you think he’s going to be some X WR1 type dude. As it stands right now Diontae is our X

Mingo is a big slot. At least that is where he was projected. I’m not saying we don’t need other separators, but we need WR that have different skill sets. Ideally you would want your X or bigger, physical guy like XL to also get separation. Ladd is probably a slot in the NFL and we needed an outside guy. He isn’t going to do well against physical CBs who press him at the LOS.

Ladd has a much better chance of getting off the line while being pressed than XL does

Big being and physical is great but if your footwork sucks by the time you’re done bullying your way through a CB the play will be dead

  12. Some spring game highlights from Ewers, Sanders and Beck

I assume one of these guys will emerge as the 1st pick overall. Bo Nix just went 12th overall. A QB will go 1st overall despite being a weak class
