  1. Kinda starting to worry about Coker’s ability to stay healthy

last year it was a quad during practice I believe then he had a set back during his return to play protocol crap they do and he’s already dealing with something now

  2. Ramsey has always been one of my favorite players in the league but I’m not sure he should be a priority for us right now.

I’m sure Evero would love to have him and he’d line him up everywhere. Nickel/Safety and outside and would provide a lot of flexibility for Evero but my worry is still our pass rush. I’m not depending on 2 rookie edge rushers and Wonnum and Pat Jones. If the Panthers are to make a big move still I’d prefer it be for Hendrickson. Ramsey would be a great addition if we had a pass rush but we don’t

  3. Im excited for this season. I’m excited to see what Bryce does. He showed real flashes of being a franchise QB those last 10 games or whatever.

We got a real young team with lots of question marks still. Especially at OLB and I expect our defense to still be a big issue

But hopefully we see some growth/promise from the young guys. If Bryce doesn’t build off of his finish to the 2024 season then no biggie it should be quite the draft class for QB needy teams

Hard to say with London--he never ran--combine or pro day.  Here is what AI says, and it is always 100% accurate:

Drake London's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was not recorded because he was dealing with a fractured ankle at the time. While he didn't participate in the 40 at the Combine or his pro day, his coach said his 40 time was estimated to be between 4.4 and 4.53 seconds. Some sources also list his 40 time at 4.58 and 4.6 seconds

Unless you are running 9s all day, top end 40 speed is rarely reached.  I have always looked at the 3-cone drill.  At his pro day, TMac ran a 6.86--pretty good, actually.  For context, it is faster that Rome Odunze (6.88) who ran a 4.45 40.  Odunze is 6'3" and weighs 216, fwiw, and is considered a very good route runner with no wasted motion.  Mike Evans 3-cone was 7.08.

To put it in a broader context, through 2022, with all NFL prospect 3-cone drills combined, a 6.86 puts TMac in the.89th percentile-  Now consider the fact that he is 6'4" and 220.

    We might have something here.

McMillan only did the 40 at his pro day no 3 cone.

I also look at 3 cone times for WR’s as well

This isn’t a bad deal for the right people. Sure not everyone has that kind of money to burn. But $10k for everything including all travel (that includes a private flight), lodging, meals, tix to the game? Meeting former players?

It’s a lot of logistics that if done solo would take a lot of time to coordinate. When I was younger I spent my time to save money, and now I spend my money to save time.

    ^^^

Yep not everyone has that kind of money to burn but there’s definitely a healthy market that does and when you break it all done it’s not a bad deal at all

Why do guys even want to sleep with another married person instead of a single person if you are going to cheat in the first place? so bizarre to even want sloppy seconds like ooof lost respect for Smitty on that one

I mean the thinking would be that a married women has just as much to lose as you so the married women most likely doesn’t want to get caught either versus the single women who dgaf and might get you caught

I did, but again we're aware of the practice in college of inflating height/weight as well as what is considered normal and his freshman weight tells a lot.

There was a recent Raw Room episode where at one point they were discussing putting on their "big boy weight" when they go to the pros. It's common for guys to have to slap on 20lbs over the summer, but King Dunlap mentioned having to put on 30 and how much of a toll that took on his body. That makes the idea of putting on 50 at the college level even harder to believe. I've got experience with cutting weight and that type of drop sounds just awful... and that's even if doing it healthy and not just turning yourself into a piece of human jerky. Having to add 50? Noooooo thank yoooou. I can understand wanting to take Scourton at face value, but we didn't take Bryce at face value either (and for good reason!).

Give the recently posted videos a shot. I watched the one you linked even though I've already seen it, so why not extend the same courtesy? I think you'll find yourself getting more excited about his Purdue tape than you will being irritated by what you believe are false narratives being pushed. 😄

I’m honestly not trying to argue with you or talk bad about Scourton, I like him and I’ve watched all of his Purdue stuff/videos you linked previously. Just like I’ve watched all of Princely’s Florida stuff

I’m only pointing out the weight thing because I’m excited about the idea of him being 255-260 and being more of a stand up edge here in Carolina like he was at Purdue versus at A&M

And like you, I have a crap load of experience doing the whole cutting/weight/fitness thing and I know how crappy/sluggish I feel when I’m holding as little as an extra 8-10lbs of unnecessary weight. So for Scourton to come out and say he’s 255-260 now and feels good that’s exciting based on what he’s put on film at 280 and not feeling his best

Freshman year he was listed at 235.

While Purdue listed him at 280, as was pointed out repeatedly when Bryce was being discussed as the #1 pick, colleges are notorious for adding pounds and inches like pro wrestling. I find it really hard to believe he packed on nearly 50lbs of muscle in a single college offseason. 20 - 30? Yea, I can see that even though it isn't as common. 50 tho? That's a ridiculously massive jump in one offseason.

Plus, looking at the 2023 vs 2024 tape, there is a clear size & speed difference. Give the tape a view! You'll like what you see. 😄

Did you watch the interview I posted? Scourton himself said he was 280 but just overall a tighter 280

And yes colleges and people lie about that stuff all the time. Any time I got to fill in my info for a program or something like that I added 1-2inches and 10-15 pounds. It’s why they take these players measurements at the combine

Ive already watched a bunch on all of our draft picks and I think both edges have real potential. Scourton and Princely can beat you in multiple ways. Both Nic and Tet are smooth/fluid movers and I’m always a big fan of those types

There’s a good interview with Princely I posted in his draft thread I believe where he talks about how he felt like last season at Ole Miss was the first year he was getting developed properly. Learning the why behind what he was being asked to do. I was also pleased to see Princely improve his 3 cone time at his pro day. His combine 3 cone time caught me by surprise given what he looks like on tape

  9. I put this in the other thread already but Scourton says he was the same weight his sophomore year at Purdue as he was at A&M

There’s this and the whole Bryce and TMac working out prior to the draft thing that for whatever reason people keep running with. TMac and Bryce threw together once prior to the draft because they happened to be at the same place.

With that said, I’m super interested in seeing what a 255-260 Scourton can do standing up rushing the passer on passing downs

a bit underwhelming but a start I guess.  But you said you would not be upset with pittmans numbers.  So what would you think he tet came in at 500 yards and 1 td?

I should’ve clarified Pittman’s numbers minus the rookie year but with 6-8 touchdowns a year.

I wouldn’t be upset with 70-800-6 rookie year numbers

Marvin Harrison Jr put up 62-885-8

So yah somewhere in that ballpark are my expectations

Maybe in a year or two, but for this year, T-Mac needs to almost exclusively line up on the outside.

Yes, T-Mac very much excels in that power slot role, and it would be smart for us to use him that way.  But right now we basically have T-Mac and a whole bunch of guys who are probably best suited to line up out of the slot.

We need to develop XL and Coker more so they can slide our there when T-Mac slides into the slot for a snap.

Pittman is another decent comp and how Indy uses him is how I’d like to see McMillan used. I think TMac has a little more juice than Pittman but it’s close. That’s not a dig at TMac

Those are Pittman’s numbers. I think Tmac will be a big part of our redzone offense so if TMac puts up Pittman-like numbers but with 6-8 touchdowns are we going to be upset? I’m not

I really like Coker and I believe he can do it all. You can line him up anywhere. I think what we saw from XL drop wise will always be there moving forward so he’s forever going to be a frustrating one to watch. Unless XL has busted his ass this offseason changing the way he’s caught the ball his entire life the drop issue isn’t going away

Been forgetting to ask this too......

Did anyone else who was watching the draft on NFL Network have a real strong feeling that we took T-Mac in the 30 seconds leading up to our pick when the analysts were getting their last words in?

Those guys know the picks by then, even if the truck hasn't told them in their ear, they see it on Twitter and/or hear it from their sources as they're constantly still trying to get the most up to date information second by second.

The first guy to talk first said how we had a horrible defense and that's where he would go, but then when Eisen said something like "so sounds like you're predicting defense" he quickly started talking about how we still need weapons for Bryce and could see us go offense as well.  But it was the second guy who was talking about how he thought we'd take defense in the past tense.  He even said something like "I thought they were going to go defense and Walker was going to be the guy I'd have taken."

Now maybe it was just me hoping we'd take my guy, but just the way he said it, it very much sounded like he knew we took an offensive player, it was the toughest 30 seconds of my life to not get too excited since, well, you know.

A lot of times I turn the volume off until they’re announcing the pick on the podium. The announcers tip picks all the time and it’s annoying as hell

you see them look at a screen once the pick rolls in and then say something about a position of need or what they think X team is about to do after talking about a different position 5 seconds earlier

That’s interesting to know. He’s adjusting and conditioning to what feels like the optimal situation for him. I’ll tell you, sounds like he’s been coached very well to recognize those things, have the strong run game skills and continuing to build out his moveset. He really seems like a high floor guy that I’m just surprised lasted that long. Feel really string about him and Princely. Just tough guys with good experience, size, skills, there’s no weird outlier question marks with either of them.

Gets asked about it at the :25 second mark

Figured to group all the picks in one place so we can take a more holistic & zoomed out look at the class.  My overall one sentence approach: We played it smart, moving up to get guys we wanted, however in that process, maximized value without mortgaging the future picks.

Strong blend of smart + aggressive this year.

    Some initial notes:

    • We've got ourselves a real WR1. Coker & Legette can fill into very complimentary roles.  Then we took a swing on a returner/shiftier type later on, with real juice, in Horn.
    • Pass Rush was nonexistent last year - so landed a guy in Scourton who many had pegged as a 1st -- he's back to his Purdue weight, where he looked like a potential superstar, has great measurables, and attitude.  Power guy, growing moveset, & real edge setting ability.  Princely may start out as a specialist (maybe more), but he has real upside and the frame to fill into a 3-down edge.  Nick Bonitto-ish

I think Bryce is going to benefit from TMac’s ability to track the ball especially when the play breaks down. Legette wasn’t great at that last year. Im interested in seeing if XL comes back this year putting more of an emphasis on using his hands to catch the ball. If you go and watch all of XL’s receptions his final season at South Carolina he catches the ball the same way he did his rookie season. He’s never trusted his hands and it shows up when he’s asked to catch the ball over his shoulder. There’s always going to be frustrating drops if that’s how he’s going to try and catch the ball the rest of his career

Scourton lost 20-25lbs after the college season. He actually played at a similar weight to his A&M weight his sophomore season at Purdue when he had 10 sacks. However, he said he felt his body was more tighter (weight wise) carrying that extra 20-25 at Purdue than at A&M. He said the weight loss wasn’t even done purposely but just him learning how to eat correctly.
