Please god not seattle. I'll be pissed if he goes to the Cowboys but seattle would rip my heart out of my chest
Honestly, thats what we get for treating him that way. He would have signed with us on a prove it deal.
-
The Kraken in seattle? He'd be a demi-god.
The Kraken is SEA and we might as well blow this team up and rebuild because we are not getting through them. Sherman, Chancellor, and Hardy would be the best combo in years.
-
I have said this before and will say it again. The reason why we are never consistent is because we dont take chances on players. Hell if Ray Lewis were signed by Carolina when he had is murder trial we would have cut him. One of the best MLBs to ever play and we would have cut him no matter the outcome.

Everyone wonders why we are always below .500 every other year. Well its crap like this, Hardy was begging to play for us and what do we do? Yea shut the door in his damn face.

@JasonLaCanfora
Took the temp of a lot of teams on Greg Hardy over the weekend, came away with the sense DAL and SEA could emerge as legit suitors
SEA is going to destroy us if they get Hardy. God sometimes I really hate how we sell out our players to the NFL. Dude was totally innocent yet that's not good enough.

Doubt we'd be getting a 3rd for Hardy if he has to take a 1-year prove it deal.
Thats our fault for not signing him to that exact thing. Thank JR for that one.

So he's getting no suspension.
No suspension and a apology from Goodell.
-
You can chill with that he's here for the next 3 years guranteed. If you have to tag a QB for two straight years, what's the chances you're going to actually agree to a deal?
Cam needs to be signed soon or traded. Funny how I've been painted as the "Cam fan" but you guys act like trading Cam is a deadly sin.
I'm not saying trading Cam should be the goal, you have to do whatever it takes to keep him and that includes "overpaying" another word people here don't like. But you can't allow him to walk away for nothing. That's all I'm saying. You let him walk away and get nothing, it's a 10 year loss.
But that's exactly what we do every time. How many teams have you known to not let not one but 2 top 5 DEs walk for nothing. Expect Cam to do the same if it comes down to it.

McManamon: Josh McCown will most likely be your opening
day starter unless Manziel comes in like a man on fire.

If you think Johnny Manziel had a drinking problem before,
now his mentor is Josh McCown ....
2nd-year Browns Head Coach Mike Pettine on Josh McCown:
“If we wanted a mentor, you can bring a coach in that can do that. To me, the guy can still play. When the circumstances are right, he's shown he can play at a high level... We’re just not looking to bring in a guy that’s a leader and a mentor; we want a guy that can play the game as well. He certainly demonstrated that in his last year in Chicago and that’s something we’re hoping to replicate here in Cleveland."
Josh McCown Scouting Report by Browns blog
"For the Browns to have success with Josh McCown at quarterback, they must give him excellent pass protection. If he gets pressured, he'll make bad decisions and turn over the ball. His 2014 season in Tampa Bay was, to some degree, a perfect storm. He is highly susceptible to pressure, the Buccaneers ran a vertical offense with many slow-developing plays, and they had the worst offensive line depth chart in the NFL."

Browns: 7-9 last year, lose 3 key players, add Josh McCown &
Brian Hartline. GM of the Year locked up for Ray Farmer...

Ray Farmer has no time for Pro Days. He's too busy re-signing
Marlon Moore & bringing in Thad Lewis/ Josh McCown . Not
just anyone can do that

My expression when the Browns signed Josh McCown

The Browns are paying Josh McCown $5M a year (the SAME
amount of $ that Cam Newton and Andrew Luck are getting
paid)
This is basically how the Panthers operate. We want to act like we are better but they had just as good of a record as us last year with a worse QB. Also like us they don't sign but low level FAs each year.

Right, a multiple SB champ in Brady still getting help except Cam. How lovely
But Cam has weapons!

I am tired of trying to connect the dots to prove some nebulous point. Cam needs more legitimate weapons. Any objective observer should be able to see that. I don't care how we get them, and we don't have to bankrupt the team to do it.
People here are always ready with the excuses but the fact is all we have is Olson and KB and a bunch of joes that can't get open. I don't care they are not pro bowl players but they can't get open. Name one Great QB that does not have a good line and WRs. Hell the Steelers that was used as an example have had some great WRs and role players.
-
Put simply he would not make most rosters. People around here act as if every team has a guy like him and its not true. Cotchery would be there limit.

Gross retired. So did Wharton and Hangartner. Gamble too after being told he wasn't coming back.
Smith was let go for numerous (valid) reasons. And Hardy, well...that story's been told.
Mitchell was offered a higher contract than he was worth (as the Steelers have since learned). And the other three you mentioned were all gone before Gettleman ever got here so discussing them is pointless in current context.
Cam and Luke are both set to receive new contracts shortly, probably next offseason when we have more cap room (which we;ll have because our GM is refraining from making dumb decisions).
And drafting well is the foundation for everything else, so it's useless without that.
You'd be wise to remember that out current 'franchise history' is in only its third year. Hurney doesn't work here anymore, so talking about how he ran the team is in this context, again, useless.
I don't need the reasons they left I know why, my point is that this org is content on allowing talent to walk out the door and not replacing it. Thus why we have always been inconsistent. Look even the best teams have to rebuild at some point I get that, but good teams improve till they reach the SB then rebuild. We on the other hand seem to always play catch up because of the non willingness to trade for troubled players and sign 2 tier FAs. Hurney, Dave, its the same thing. The last trade we made was Olson and that trade was made when Hurney was on borrowed time and one of the only trades we have made with another team. Yet it gave us one hell of a TE, yet we are not willing to take that risk once again?
-
When was the last time we went to the playoffs back to back?
(hint: never)
And the only good player that's walking this offseason is Hardy, and there are good reasons why that's happening.
Other than that, the list of free agents walking is nothing special.
When was the last time we had back to back winning seasons?
(Yup never.)
Peppers
Marshall
Wharton
Hangartner
Gamble
Shockey
Smith
Mitchell
Gross
Hardy
These are the names we let walk and still have not been able to replace became we go cheap in FA. What's the point in drafting well if you don't reload or replace the players you lose? We have still yet to have signed Can and Luke and its possible one or the other could walk as well knowing this franchises history.
-
Pretty much.
There have been moves I haven't ultimately liked (tagging Hardy being the biggest, extending Rivera being another) but when you look at the level of success we've had - especially when compared to the rest of the team's history - and where we are now vs where we were when he got here. It's pretty easy to feel positive.
Have we had that much more success? Last year really was a fluke and we did no better than a Fox coached team. The NFC South has gotten weaker and our new found success comes from that. We are still running things as if Hurney was here(low fas/draft for success), we are still letting our best players walk while not picking up players to replace them, and our team is still always the bridesmaid and never the bride.
I really do think DG is a great talent evaluator and its a good thing too because if your not smart and you operate the way this org does you don't and your the brown.
-
Can you name him after last year. Honestly, JR has managed Newton very poorly. He should have blown this team up after fox left. Newton should not have had to go through a full rebuild.
-
We play a dangerous game every year and its why the injury bug seems to effect us so much. People act like losing a top 5 rusher and not addressing WR and CB/DB/OL is no big deal but one injury and we are in serious trouble. I don't think you need to spend big but you need to at least spend. We are not going to hit home runs every year in the draft and that only comes with 7 picks. Willingness to make moves like these is why we are at the bottom of the league in winning. Hell the Jags and Browns almost win as much.

I'm ok with this, but still not ok with us letting him walk. These moves are the reason why we are never a consistent team.

Coming from bleecherreport I would say this is agent spinn to drive up a market. If they give hardy 2 games they have to give AP the same. That's not likely IMO.
-
we have Ginn as our speedy gonzalez, speed kills, but I think it's more imperative to have a polished receiver with solid hands, a high motor, excellent route running and toughness.
I just don't know how tough Crabtree is. but tough is definitely a must from our #2. Toughness is why Bersin kept his spot on the roster. it can't be taught and it is a must on whomever is signed and added to the receiving corp.
I'm not talking Steve Smith spitting venom tough, I'm talking high concentration while securing the ball regardless of where on the field the route is run and regardless of what defenders are in the area.
Philly is also fast, we could add both more speed and route running a be good. Lets face it if we go into the season with KB,Ginn,Philly,Crab/Short/Johnson/Moore, and Cotchery thats not all that bad. We could even draft another guy and still not have a log jam because lets face it Bersin is not going to make any good NFL roster.
-
Rather have Johnson or Moore.
Cowboys in negotiations with Greg Hardy?
in Carolina Panthers

Really who has SEA lost? SEA is dominate because they sign there core and draft well. Then that add high risk, high reward FAs to give them a boost.
The Panthers on the other hand are letting one of the best core players walk, while Newton and Keeks contracts are still up in the air. See the difference?
