Just a strange coincidence that we wanted to be in Rooney Rule compliance before he’s in the building tomorrow?

This is the type of guy you don’t let leave the building

I’m just getting sick of hearing about Harbaugh. He needs to make up his mind instead of doing this same dance every offseason
-
I'd be floored with Evans signed with us under any circumstances. At his age he'll be ring chasing and I can't imagine he won't have plenty of contending teams vying for his services. Signing with a 2-win team makes zero sense regardless as to how much you loved your OC that you knew for 6 months.

I do wonder if we have a dark horse candidate no one has legitimately linked us to yet. My guess in that case would be Vrabel, who I'd be thrilled with.

Yeah, it is a bit puzzling to me that we have no interviews scheduled past today. Obviously some of the initial people we interviewed are coaching this weekend, but we've seen reports that the Commanders and Falcons are setting up second interviews with Johnson. Falcons with Macdonald and Weaver also. There has been nothing our way about any potential interviews after today.
-
Canales and Morris interviewing in person today. So after today we are Rooney Rule compliant and theoretically could make a hire at any time.

I haven't seen Canales slotted to interview anywhere else, so if he's in the "finalist" group, then we're only betting against ourselves if we don't wait until next week. I understand a coach in demand at other openings, but Canales does not appear to be that guy.
I’ve certainly had this thought also. Last year we didn’t wait to speak to Steichen in person and didn’t even bother reaching out to Gannon. It seems like we’ve learned nothing from our mistake.

In a vacuum, I'll be fine if it's Canales.
But if we make this hire in the next few days without giving a second interview to Johnson, Slowik, or Macdonald I'll be a bit frustrated. That would just reek of hiring someone to hire someone, sort of like last year. I still wonder how much of the Canales news is actual insider information or the media just making the connection to Morgan and running with it.

Side note: I think it would be smart if the WFT interviewed Canales now, to put pressure on the Panthers to hire now, and not wait for Ben Johnson.
I see the vision but Tbf if we’re not bringing Ben back in it’s because we know he’s going to Washington so we could easily call their bluff there

Such a hard on they didn’t even do a 30 minute zoom with him

Haven't seen it. I know you can't interview anyone but whether you can go ahead and request, can't say.
Falcons have requested a second interview with him

Quinn..? Why would we give him a second interview .. no one wants him to be the HC lol
MacDonald has no known second interviews rn. Same for Johnson, there is nothing reported for them.. because they can't interview until next week anyways.

Seems totally feasible after the initial interview Macdonald could have politely told us no.

It's only silent because nobody can talk to them this week.
There were reports last night of teams requesting second interviews with Macdonald

With the silence on the Ben Johnson & Mike Macdonald fronts, Evero, Canales and Morris seem to the remaining lot.
Not seeing much on Quinn, Callahan is in TEN, the other Johnson is out, the rest don't seem to have traction.
I'm still throwing my hat in the Canales ring.
It definitely feels like that’s most likely right now. The Morgan ties, and he seems like the type that would definitely take/embrace this job

No indication he's got a second interview anywhere else yet (including here).
Slowik did spend six years working for the 49ers under John Lynch and Adam Peters.
Either we have a really good idea who we’re going to hire at this point or we’re being turned down for second interviews by some of our candidates. Unfortunately, I have a guess as to which one is more likely to be true here.
I feel like Quinn, Slowik, and Macdonald are telling us no.

I’ve tried to hold out as much hope as I can but it would be very difficult to argue this if things get to that point

So Quinn and Slowik received initial interviews with us, are reportedly being called in for round two for teams but not with us yet. Will be interesting to see if that changes. If it doesn’t, it makes me think we’re really narrowing our focus on 1-2 names.

We've been flailing around making moves for QB's going on 4 years now and each time we've been worse off for it.
Leave it alone and reassess in 2025 and if you need to draft one then go for it. Odds are 95% we will have a top ten pick.
It is absolutely insane that this isn’t common sense. We’ve been so obsessed with fixing this position that the rest of the roster has been absolutely depleted. Then everyone we move on from immediately goes somewhere else and begins playing better. And we still can’t figure out what the common denominator is.

One thing I gathered from Person's article is that outside of the obvious fact that we want Johnson, no one has a clue where we stand beyond that.

Raheem.
He checks the most boxes for us, and though not as flashy/sexy as Johnson, but I see long-term success and a locker room that plays passionately for their coaching staff.
Plus, odds are he keeps Evero who this D also has rallied around.
If Tepper looks himself in the mirror and realizes he should have given Wilks a fair shot, it does seem like going with a guy like Raheem could go a long ways to restoring trust in the locker room. I think he can get us back to our roots and give us someone to rally around. Assuming we strike out on Johnson I'd be more than fine with Raheem.
-
Obviously we know we hope Ben Johnson comes in for another interview. That would be Johnson, Canales, Morris, and Evero getting second interviews. Maybe Slowik and one/both of the Ravens coordinators? Started with 11 maybe our list is cut down to 6-7

Out of all the potential hires, he would probably be my least favorite by far.
I think I agree. The league is clearly very high on him but I’m not sure he’s what we need right now

Apparently Quinn has scheduled interviews with Tennessee, Seattle, and Washington this week but nothing about him coming in for one with us. We’ll see if that changes
Vrabel interviewing with carolina Thursday
in Carolina Panthers

Vrabel easily clears the bar of a good coach for me. Let’s not act like he’s had juggernaut rosters in Tennessee. You can make an argument no coach has done more with less over the past few years.
He's also exactly what we need from a cultural standpoint. He’s taken a ragtag group and won games on the road in the playoffs by playing smash mouth, disciplined football. Sound familiar?
