It seems like at least four of these jobs have narrowed their focus to one candidate. Leaving us, Seattle, and Washington. I still think Ben Johnson and Mike Macdonald are the cream of the crop. We could have a real chance to get one. We'll see what happens in Philadelphia, but it feels like Sirianni is probably safe. Things have broken well for us.

Person recently posted an article on the athletic about various coaches and the process and what not, anyone have cliff notes?

There wasn’t much we don’t already know in there. He was basically just saying who we’ve interviewed and reiterated that we want Johnson. But I don’t think anyone has a clue what the pecking order is after him.

Might be what we want but I'm not so sure the timeline is cooperating, especially if we're hoping for Ben Johnson.

I realize some don't love it but I have zero issue with hiring the HC before the GM. Get two men on the same page with each other and let's start building this thing. I just don't understand the need to interview all these GM candidates if we want the HC first. Zero reason to rush this, could spend all the time focusing on the HC right now and then find the GM while letting the HC be a part of that process.

Only thing I can think of is maybe while doing HC interviews we've gotten some intel from these candidates regarding the GM's they'd like to work with. That way we can knock some of the interviews out now and expedite the hiring process as soon as the HC is in the building.

Lemme add this here since I posted it in the wrong thread...

This is what Top Dawg mentioned Schuyler Callihan talking about in regards to Kelly.

For what it's worth, Callihan is of the opinion that the leading GM candidate at the moment is the Chiefs Brandt Tilis.

One interesting snippet from the Graziano piece is that we want to get our head coach in place before the GM. I’m just not sure I understand the purpose in conducting all these GM interviews if that’s the case.

Yeah I figured it would be a while for HC but I really figured we would be hearing "something" about GM candidates

We’ve heard Kelly really impresses and seems like we’re high on Halaby also. I figure those are the leading candidates currently. But I do agree, if we like Kelly we’re going to have to roll because the expectation is he’s the leader for the Raiders job

Does anyone know if the Panthers have done anything the past 3 days or did they just take a long weekend at the house. They haven't shared anything coach/GM related since Thursday and Friday was the last interview rumored by an insider (Rapoport mentioned Halaby)

I think it’s important to realize we can’t even meet face to face with anyone until January 21. And if they want to hire the HC before the GM we’re probably weeks away from getting any substantial news. Gonna have to be patient.

Someone commented that they don’t think we’ll be in the first wave of hires and I somewhat agree but disagree. It all depends on the big fish. Everything will fall out after that. Once he’s publicly indicated that we’re not an option for them they will move quick into their next set of preferred candidates and make a hire. With the pool of candidates they have now I feel confident in all but maybe 2. It might be Callahan or Monken season and I wouldn’t be overly upset with those choices, not my first choice though. If/when we miss on Ben; MacDonald would be my preferred candidate after Slowik but I have a feeling he gets hired before Ben

Which could be a good thing. I think the Reich hire always felt rushed last year. Part of me deep down wonders if we were so eager to make a hire that’s why we didn’t give Steichen a serious look and didn’t even bother to reach out to Gannon

  8. Someone more educated than me could you answer this: what’s stopping any of these candidates from using their agent to put verbiage into any contract that specifies minimal owner involvement? We know this job is the worst for numerous reasons, one of them being David Tepper. If Tepper finds the guy he covets, why couldn’t said candidate say “listen I am not taking this job unless you agree to stay out of my business”? Could be the best thing to happen to us and also a super reasonable thing for any of these candidates to do. We don’t have much leverage here.

I just don't think there's enough info out there to have confidence in Slowik.

I want us to hire "consistently good", not "small sample good".

But considering all these openings we might have to accept our best option could be rolling the dice on someone a little bit.

Why is the only place I hear about ANYTHING on Kellen Moore is here or random other fans who looked at Vegas betting lines. “Vegas knows something” he was “second” in our search last year. Hasn’t even gotten a virtual interview.

At this point people only like mocking and laughing at our team so they make up scenarios that have a 0% chance of happening because I guess it makes them feel better or whatever. I have as good of a chance as Kellen Moore does of getting this job. If we strike out with all the candidates we’ve currently interviewed my guess is Evero is the fallback plan. Moore isn’t even sniffing an interview.

We were never getting the 'best' candidate.

The roster is a mess. We have no QB. Our owner fired a guy after half a season. This is not an attractive destination for people with options i.e. Harbaugh.

It's going to be about fit, which is why they should definitely hire the GM first and let him decide who his HC is, then get out of the way for 3 years and let them work.

For sure. But these things can have a snowball effect. We were never going to hire Bill, but let's say the Cowboys do. We know the Falcons want him, now they have to pivot and their job is clearly more desirable than ours.

  12. In the last 24 hours, reports that Sirianni could be gone with an L, Tomlin could take a hiatus after this season, and obviously some have speculated about McCarthy’s safety if the Cowboys flop in the playoffs.

Any of these coming open would be brutal for us. Multiple coming open would especially sting.

  13. Yeah even though we're likely missing out on Johnson there are so many other good candidates and we should land one of them.

MacDonald is probably my favorite as of now (subtracting Johnson), but I also won't be complaining at all with Callahan, Smith, Canales, Morris, or Monken. Speaking of Monken, if any of you listen to The Roar they finally released an episode yesterday and they made a very convincing case for Monken. I'd be fine with him.

    • Pie 2
  14. Yeah it seems like our chances of landing him are very low at this point (and they probably always were)

It will be interesting to see where we pivot. Monken, Smith, Callahan, Macdonald are all still interesting to me.

    Vrabel 2 straight losing seasons.

Either you're high on Vrabel or you fail to recognize he's not the best coach on the market. Which one is it?

No coach has done more with less. That's a brutal roster he was working with and one where it's clear he didn't have much personnel control over. He was visibly furious when they traded AJB on draft night.

    • Pie 1
  16. I think it's very unlikely we hire a better coach than Vrabel. The only problem is it sounds like he kind of wanted out of Tennessee because they're totally tearing it down (which makes sense). What he would be working with here is also a complete and total rebuild. But it is kind of tough to find his landing spot now that NE is out of the question. I've heard Vegas but their players badly want AP.
