Name one you mentioned. I brought up the NBA ref. You haven’t given me an example of a player/coach/ referee who has done anything. Just this might happen and this could happen. Where in between all those is your examples. Just because it is “inevitable” in your head doesn’t mean it’s true. And sports is a form of entertainment. Disagree as usual.
-
I asked for any examples and you went with this….again. What’s more likely. Your conspiracy theory full of hypotheticals, or maybe guys making millions don’t need to throw games. As widespread as you think it is and nothing offered as proof but your mind. You can, and have assumed whatever you want in regards to this. And now it just certain games that you can’t tell but just know….right? And your proof is all money is corrupt. So it must be true. Don’t know how to argue with fantasies. As someone already has stated ITT.
-
Because it worked so well when they overreacted to the Saints bad call and reviewed PI calls.
-
I’m having a hard time remembering what I debated you about because that was all very well said. From someone who has clearly put on the stripes(or mask). I agree with all you said except that they influence games (intentionally) at all. But I respect the opinion from the knowledge it was born from. My issue is the whole league is bent on every bad call mantra.
-
So basically your fan fiction version should be treated as fact and basic facts should just take a back seat on this one. If this happens, why haven’t the Jets, Giants, Bears been more successful. That would increase viewership, clicks, everything more than any teams. The owners not interested in those millions of fans? Which league is on top. Where are all these documented players who have been proven to throw games?
-
So how much cheating is involved in influencing. What would be something that random NFL official tells NFL ref to do. But not too much. Then it should be easy to give numerous examples instead of deflection. You brought other sports into it. My statement was that in a league where everything is set up for every team to be around 500 with equal resources, why would they mess with the chance of ruining it all for a certain team to win. When that same team wasn’t worthy last year? MLB has teams paying 400M/yr and some paying 50M. Their balance problem isn’t with umpires.
-
How did it happen? What would that influence entail that isn’t rigging. Please list the NFL players who threw games. I can think of maybe one. How about baseball? Who are all these players? It’s also not crazy to think people, even the best, make mistakes. You ever called a game. In any sport? I guess maybe hiring all new replacement refs would help. It worked great before.
-
Nope. Never said that. And I don’t follow NBA enough to care. Want to guess why? And my stance is the same as always. The NFL is not risking their credibility on hoping one team goes to the Super Bowl. Your rant is older than me, and is always proven by a well, because…reasons argument. I don’t know NBA players. I know several NFL players/coaches. Your theory is laughable. It’s the same as thinking players ever try to lose.
-
No. You gave a vague point of view on a game where there was absolutely no reason for anyone in the NFL to care who won. That proves you’re correct to yourself. Please explain why the league would want Brady to win over their new “face”. Did the league want a beat down for viewers?
-
You mean the NBA official. The one that we absolutely know was bent. Who else you got?
-
so an example would be? What would be influencing without rigging. “Try to let Chiefs win, but don’t try too hard.”
-
And that difference is…?????
-
Where are these examples of NFL refs being bent? And just because they can affect a game, doesn’t mean they are, or have. Intentionally. These are the same accusations as there were in the 1970s and it’s never been shown to be true even once. That’s a lot of people to keep quiet. The rest is just whatever scenario you have made up in your mind with little to no knowledge of how the NFL works. What tech was needed? How many games have you called or even played in? You have a theory. That’s adorable. But it’s nowhere close to factual or even true. I’m just glad they made your wife happy?
-
If there is any sort of action/discussion taken to influence an outcome it’s cheating. You can’t do one without the other being true.
-
Same question. How does someone influence without rigging? What kind of risk is involved to the entire sport to “influence” a game so they can get your wife to watch? When has the NFL had a cheating ref. This isn’t the NBA. And he was in business for himself not the league.
-
I did. You claim there is a difference between them. I asked for one example of how a head ref can “influence” a game while not rigging it? How do you cheat just a little. Surely you have numerous examples to choose from.
-
So what would be an example of influencing and rigging? Where is that line?
-
Influencing is rigging. Doing something intentionally, for a certain outcome, is rigging. I guess Mahomes wasn’t “face” enough last year when they let a 2nd year QB take his place. Were they “viewers” absent then?
-
So because your wife heard of Kelce, from you, that proves the NFL is rigged? And is she listening to his podcast or watching the game? Is the NFL rigging games for podcast clicks? What storyline is going to make a person who isn’t watching the game as of today, suddenly want to watch? And why not last year if it is this year? Fans have complained about the “fix” for my entire life. Yet not one shred of proof in my 52 years. I’m sure every person ever involved in this rigging has kept silent.
-
Then those people weren’t watching no matter who plays? Where are they going to hear these storylines? Anyone who watches ESPN, NFL Network or searches for NFL info is a fan that is watching anyhow. But this league that is completely based on every team having the same resources, is rigging games for a couple extra viewers during one game. And why didn’t they put KC in last year? Easily a bigger draw than an unknown Bengals team.
-
What casual fan even knows Reid’s background? Or even who Jason Kelee is? Why would they care? Casual fans watch for commercials and halftime. Not which teams are there. But it makes sense to rig a game, only in a certain year, for people who don’t care anyhow. OK…
-
No one who wasn’t already going to watch the SB cares about Reid/Eagles or a brother’s podcast. That’s weak at best. What extra money is created by KC being there this year as opposed to last year? Where is this magic influx of new fans that are created from this scenario?
-
What story line? Why didn’t they take out the Bengals last year when they were a plucky underdog? Wouldn’t Mahomes against Rams been more attractive then? The machine? Eyeballs? LOL
-
What’s their preference? KC and CIN are very similar markets. Both had elite QBs. Both were in SB recently. In a league set up for every team to finish around .500, what’s the preference?
