I have a question...why would you put someone who is a fa after this year on ir for a hamstring?
Better than cutting him completely.
Don't see there being a whole lot of teams going after him.

Who is folkart?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app
Brian Folkerts, backup center.

@jjones9: Panthers waived/injured WR David Gettis. He injured his hamstring during pregame warmups Thursday
That means IR.
That possibility crossed my mind.
-
Hate to break this to everyone, but as I understand the rules, cuts just have to be made by 6pm They don't necessarily have to be announced.

I'd be hiding in an abandoned cabin outside of cell service.
Me too
There is also the possibility they could be on the phones trying to trade with somebody, but I don't think that's likely.
That kind of thing might be more likely tomorrow or the next day, if at all.
-
Coaches must be agonizing over the last few cuts. . .
Possible. Also could be there just trying to notify everybody.
If you were on the bubble, would you answer your phone today?
-
who?
Late edition. Has only been around for a couple of weeks, I think.
I believe I remember seeing him blow a play in preseason two or three.
-
Nakamura to be cut?
No. He said Nakamura stays too.
-
Person saying Colin Jones has made it too.

I can see keeping Nate Chandler.

@caplannfl: Have to imagine that coaches knew early on Watkins wouldn't work out. Less to do with talent, more to do with desire.
@caplannfl: Watkins did dominate during Senior Bowl week practices, no question, but only had 1 good season at Baylor. And clearly never loved the game.
@RoobCSN: I don't think Danny Watkins will play again. I don't think his heart was ever in football. I don't think he likes playing the game.
In fairness, aren't these the same kind of guys who say they know what Cam Newton is thinking?
-
There have been players that don't like the team they're on, but go on and excell on another.
Like Evan Mathis?
Word was he hated then Panther OL coach Mike Maser.

-
Word on Watkins is that he had no love for the game and no desire to play. Don't need guys like that
Hadn't seen that in any of the stuff I read on him. If true though, I'd agree.
That said, being unemployed has been known to light up a lazy rump or two.
-
That's what I was thinking... That or as Scot said, perhaps he just didn't fit the new system. Would love to bring him in and see what he has.
Gettleman has certainly seen him play.
Watkins and Dennis Roland (Bengals tackle) are names that intrigue me right now.
Watkins was only drafted two years ago though. I'm guessing he'd be subject to waivers.
-
don't know anything about him, but it could be a Dwan type situation. Which was good for us.
Did a little research. Kelly insists on OL guys that can play multiple spots. Watkins is only a guard.
He was benched last year, but Evan Mathis was benched in his Panther days too.
Maybe we can return the favor the Eagles did us

Just saw where the Eagles are dumping the guard they took in the first round of 2011, Danny Watkins.
His road to football was an unusual story and he wasn't going to be a starter this year. He started 18 games in the last two, albeit on a lousy line.
Gettleman would know about him from Eagles-Giants games. Wonder if he's worth a look.
He's a little older than most third year guys (28). Might just be that he didn't suit the offense Chip Kelly was going to run,
-
I did a thread on our successful castoffs a year or so ago. Will Montgomery went on to be a serviceable player for the Skins as well. If I'm not mistaken, he was their starting center for a year or two. Without looking, I have no idea where he is now.
Dave Ball was another preseason standout we cut that went on to be productive for Tennessee.
Montgomery is the one his Panther linemates used to call "Cartman".
I remember having the impression they didn't necessarily like him all that much. Could be wrong...
-
Speaking of special teams aces, 49ers just let go of Kassim Osgood.
He has Rivera ties from his Charger days. Don't know if he's as good as he used to be though (age 33 now).
-
Glad Armond Smith looks to be sticking around.
Hate Poole had to go, but Smith brings more to the table and, IMHO, is a better option at RB if we need him to do that.
FWIW we might be looking at bringing in someone else at RB, too.
I'm told Smith got a real kick out of the news he was staying
Poole, on the other hand, felt like he'd just taken a cleat to the nuts

Colin Jones might be a better 'ace', and I think he's cheaper.
Ya never know.
-
Eleven left. Deadline is 6pm.
-
Falcon's love Robert McClain.
I think they had a few former Panthers in camp.
R J Stanford was in camp with someone too, if I remember right?
-
I had forgotten about Jovan Haye. The guy I was thinking of was Tony Brown.
He was decent. If I remember right both he and Dave Ball went to the Titans.

Good chance DE number five will be inactive on game days.
