Young is most certainly not in the mold of the pocket passers of Stroud, Manning, Stafford or Flacco.

A passer isn't defined by his mobility... or the lack of it.

The ability to read, process, make the right decision and throw an accurate pass are what define them.

Pocket mobility is a good thing. Being a threat to run is also nice but not necessary.

Damn concussions...  I think they ended Luke early too.  My main point was there IS a concern with durability and size as Reich stated Young's durability is a concern.  Yeah it's easy to find players of normal size that have injury histories because there are so many of them.

If I remember correctly, Morgan had only one injury in college and that was minor.

It's just damn near impossible to predict that sort of thing.

Seems like you could create a test that spits out scenarios based on x's and o's

Asking what play you would pick out of the 4 against this coverage or against this offensive look. Asks questions about general football only things.

Maybe sprinkle in some off the field questions but still related to life as a player.

All the QB prospects do what they call "whiteboard work" at their personal interviews.

It's a lot like what you describe.

from what i've heard, his work ethic and dedication to the tape is just as elevated as Kuechly was. Supposedly he knows where not only his players, but defender players are supposed to be at any point during a play. He's supposedly that deep into preparation. In there before the coaches watching tape post game and pregame, coming up with plays to help take advantage of things he sees.

I'm really high on both guys and think they will both be elite, but Young's mind for the game impresses me probably the most.

When it comes to quarterbacking skills, Young would be an absolute dream pick for me.

But you have to get past that one big question...

people talk about Brees and Brady and about their ability to get the ball out quickly and that prolonged their career.

Young is uber mobile and hyper aware of his surroundings and he's well known for being a fast processor and that has helped save his butt, i'm sure, on more than a few occassions.

Consider this...what makes anyone think that Young wouldn't be just as able to get the ball out faster the way other great QBs have learned to?

What if he was just as smart and able to get the ball out quickly just like those other great QBs and he could still do all the other Young stuff we've seen him do?

    It's a valid argument.

Other things being equal, I'll take a fast processor over a more mobile QB ten times out of ten.

  6. Joe Person had the Panthers taking CJ Stroud in The Athletic's beat writer mock draft (link)

    His reasoning...

Frank Reich has a type when it comes to quarterbacks, all of whom have been 6-foot-2 or taller (the majority have been 6-4 and up). Reich also values accuracy. That combination points to the 6-3, 214-pound Stroud, who has impressed with his ball placement and throwing mechanics. The one knock on Stroud was his unwillingness to make plays with his feet. Then he showed off his athleticism in the College Football Playoff semifinal against a Georgia defense teeming with NFL prospects, and everyone took notice.

I’m sure Reich will listen to input from the rest of the team. He hired people he respects for a reason. If he’s close between Stroud and Young, someone else might be able to add something he didn’t think of, and that might sway his opinion. At least that is how a good leader should do it, and I think he is one.

More than one source has said that Jim Caldwell is going to have a big voice in these decisions.
