The amount of corporate survivors out there who just hang on cashing paychecks by knowing the right asses to kiss, never rocking the applecart, learning some industry lingo, and just checking boxes is pretty staggering.

But that's what the corporate environment rewards. Fug that. Something has gone horrifically wrong for me to ever end up back in the corporate world.

It's pretty amazing that these large entities pine to make the most money possible but have about 20-30% of their collective payrolls being taken up by utterly useless workers.

You can say "average" all you like. The stats simply do not support that. They don't in really any measure.

I don't even think we will get Dak or necessarily even be interested. But you keep pining after all the unicorns that you think exist.

Oh the unicorns exist. They have a pile of rings.

I do think Dak does that. Some of the guys that he has played with definitely benefitted from him getting them the ball. It's not like he's played with a bunch of elite weapons. I mean, as a young QB, he played with an old Dez and and old Witten. He played with Amari Cooper and Cee Dee for a year. Then it was basically just Lamb and Zeke before he aged out.

A good O-line is to be expected. Any QB should be able to succeed behind an excellent line. Some do, some don't. Dak obviously excelled.

I hate the Cowboys, and Dak hasn't been clutch during playoff time, but their failures in the postseason haven't been 100 percent on him.

I mean, it is pretty obvious you are just pining for any above average QB. I get it. Basically the fan version of "battered QB syndrome."

Pine after all the non-game changing QB's you want, homie. I ain't stopping you.

I haven't made any point but that "elite" is very much a matter of definition---it's subjective.

Dak has been good throughout his career, and last season was one of his best. Of course he faltered in the playoffs, but so did several QBs. So if you're going to ding him, you must ding them all, except one. There is only one truly elite QB in the league, and we all know who he is.

Dak is a franchise QB. Matt Ryan was one as well. Palmer was as well before he got injured.

You seem to be suggesting that you can only win a chip with an elite QB. I say that you can win one without one. It's a team sport.

The fact is, Dak's career passer rating and career QBR are in the good territory, as a I've stated. If you look at his last season, they were more than good. QBs with lesser ratings than Prescott have led their teams to a chip.

Suggesting that most elite QBs will take a team bereft of a line and weapons to a chip doesn't make sense. It just doesn't. Mahomes and Brady are really the only ones that came close to that, and parts of their teams were elite if not most of their teams. Maybe Burrow can do it, but he's suffered some injuries that have directly affected his play and taken the shine off. You need at least a good team and a good QB. This pretty much shows itself every year.

Well my personal benchmark for an elite QB is "are you elevating your team or are they elevating you?"

    Dak doesn't do that.

Equating Dak to Brock Purdy...? Not buying it. Furthermore, "elite" is very much subjective. Dak is an above average QB, period. How good he is is a matter of opinion. Plenty of people that watch football, and those that play it, see Dak as good.  He's better than anything we've had for a while, and better than many QBs in the league. Super Bowl teams, even good teams, are "loaded" to certain degrees. Put any QB behind a bad line and without talent, and they're not going to look good, much less elite.

You are basically making my point for me. Are you going to extol the virtues of having the next Matt Ryan? Carson Palmer?

Signing Dak will mead us to success as a franchise, I won't argue that. But he will never lead us(or likely any team) to the success that we really want.

Because he is not an elite QB.

This "non-elite" or average or slightly above average stuff simply isn't supported by his stats. Dak isn't the best out there, and sure he's never won a chip, but several notable QBs didn't win, until they did.

I don't know how we'd pay him the highest contract in NFL history, so all of this is probably moot, but we could do far far less than Dak.

Anyone that has watched NFL football for a while should be able to fairly readily see that Dak is not an elite QB. Putting up elite stats on a loaded team is not the same as being an elite QB. Ask 49er fans.

I don't doubt he can pick it all up. We all have doubts about brain to arm when the bullets are real. That is where BY lost most of us.

Not to absolve the poo show that was our situation last year but it was very rare to see BY look like a 15 year starting NFL QB.

My expectations are very low for XL this year. He is a rookie and traditionally we don't develop rookie WR fast. I fully expect it to be the Dionte Johnson show this year with flashes of AT. I think somebody nobody expected will come out of nowhere and grab some limelight too. Marshall? Mingo? UDFA? who knows.

Yeah, I am not expecting XL to be ready for primetime. Hopefully he will start to carve out a role as the season progresses and avoid the TMJ/Mingo situation of just very clearly showing they are marginal NFL guys.

  9. I don't think non-elite retreads are the way to go, at this point. We have been down this road multiple times.

If/when the Bryce thing fizzles out, we will be back in top 5 pick territory so you just keep shooting your shot until you make one.

We are not going to attract any elite QB talent in free agency because we have a bad franchise.

The draft is the only path forward at this point, barring some blockbuster trade. But, look at how those recent elite QB trades have worked out(Wilson and Watson).

Rod stays...Canes would be tepper level bad to let him leave.

Agreed. People who say this are of the same ilk as "WE GOTTA GET RID OF RICHARDSON SO WE CAN GET THE NFL SHIELD OFF THE FIELD."

How is that working out now?

Rod can stay as long as he likes and keeps fielding one of the best teams in the NHL. He does need someone on the staff that understands goalies. That has always been a weakness for him.
