SAM DARNOLDQB, CAROLINA PANTHERS ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports "some" within the Panthers organization want Sam Darnold to get a chance to start in 2022. Darnold missed most of the season's first half a serious ankle injury. He's reportedly fully healthy but not part of the team's starting QB conversation as P.J. Walker and Baker Mayfield takes turns being terrible. Darnold, one of the NFL's worst quarterbacks by any measure in 2021, could wind up starting a meaningless late-season game for the most down-bad franchise in pro sports.

Panthers wide receiver DJ Moore said on Monday that team leadership had spoken with owner David Tepper about the issue. Tepper, in an effort to expand the potential of Bank of America Stadium as a multi-purpose venue, installed the turf surface last season. On Thursday night, PJ Walker sustained his ankle-sprain in the team’s Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. He told reporters that he thinks it’s time for a change.

Jackson went down with the Achilles injury on Thursday versus the Falcons and will now miss the remainder of the season. After re-signing with the Panthers on a three-year deal in the offseason, Jackson was having a strong 2022 campaign before suffering the injury. He had two interceptions, three pass defenses, and 35 combined tackles in nine appearances.
