fug man. Kirkwood goes up and makes a nice catch and then gets DESTROYED like that.

Corral's roster spot is completely safe. If by some chance PJ is more equipped to run an NFL offense right now - which IMO is perfectly reasonable to think could be true - its helpful to have him playing with guys that are trying to make the roster. Ideally Corral will get more reps with higher string players later on, once those slots are better worked out. I wouldn't be surprised if he was given the coaches we have, yes. Players development is influenced by the coaches and other players around them. Very possible Willis is in a better situation and further along.

Suspect the 4th quarter is for Corral. If he doesn't get the quarter, it probably indicates he is very far behind.

I think its very likely Rhule is garbage at talent evaluation, but PJ is a veteran and Corral is not. Corral has a huge learning curve. This is as much about the players around PJ as anything else IMO. I think that's okay for the first preseason game (3 quarters in). I mean, we are JUST now seeing Howell too. Rhule may suck at evaluating, but I don't think its a big deal PJ is playing right now. I also don't think this is at all about Darnold's feelings right now - its about the fact Rhule is used to college, and doesn't belong as an NFL head coach. RE: the OL, yes, there's very weird choices going on there.
-
Based on reporting and how Rhule has behaved. Rhule is dense, but if Corral was the best QB on the team, we'd be seeing him. It would be absolutely normal for a 3rd round project to be behind a veteran at this point in the season - give it time. Again, this isn't about the QB. The reality is, Corral gets a spot over PJ nearly regardless of how either plays from here on out. But it is realistic to think PJ can run the offense better than Corral. That isn't crazy. And this game is for players whose position isn't settled yet. Corral's, honestly, is. He's safe this year.
-
Again. It isn't about PJ, but the players around him, that are also competing for spots.
-
There's plenty of preseason game left for Corral to play... Its been pretty clear that PJ was ahead of Corral in terms of running the offense, so unsurprising he gets in first. We always knew Corral was a project. PJ may suck, but he's likely ahead of him right this second, and the other players competing for roster slots also deserve a QB that can in theory run the offense better. But there's plenty of time. Its possible Corral will get more playing time than any other QB still this game. I doubt it, but its possible.

I like Ricci.

man, I know its just preseason, but I wish that there'd be something to inspire some confidence in this team from this game.
-
of course its PJ...

Oh I think they're necessary to have, but I feel like Rivera just rode him into the ground
-
All good teams have miracle wins... I think it's pretty clear Cams injury is what did in that season personally. Rivera was a much better coach than Rhule but I don't know that he had enough to build a Superbowl caliber team that wasn't completely on the back of a superstar.
-
Your idea seems to be that Rhule will sacrifice early season games to start Darnold because he's desperate to buy himself more time by turning to Baker later in the season???? Why not just turn to Baker to save his job in the first place if he's capable of it?

Robbie Anderson interview w Josina Anderson.
mav1234 replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely right. His English was absolutely fine and understandable. I'm not much of a fan of his right now and he gave mostly expected answers but I've heard way, way worse interviews. -

I'm probably one of the biggest RA detractors on this forum and I absolutely don't get the hate for this interview. Not sure what some of you expected but frankly I thought this was a pretty good interview and he gave fine answers to questions on revenge games and having something personal to prove this season. Thanks for sharing. -
Can't help but feel Rhule will find some place for PJ on the roster. PJ seems like a fine dude and a team player but I have no idea what he brings to the team right now.

It also isn't just giving vets their dues; there are significant been fits short and long term to both player and team to letting a rookie QB learn on the bench. It isn't the only way to do things, sure, but it also has it's upside. Corral will get his chance (so, too, will Pickett some day).

Incredible person and player that made a lasting impact on professional sports and large segments of American society. He tirelessly campaigned for justice and equality. He will be sorely missed. RIP

I wish the enthusiasm of fans guaranteed success for a player on the field. I'm behind whomever we play. I don't believe this will be Corral's only opportunity. Very few NFL players with significant talent / college hype only get one. Even Clausen got at least 3 chances, lol.

I don't see a problem with a competition this early. The reality is Baker needs to get a handle on the playbook more than chemistry with one particular set of guys, especially considering he will certainly play with some of backup dudes throughout the season. And tho I doubt it is possible, if Corral or Darnold somehow beat out Mayfield, I wouldn't be upset. But... If Rhule refuses to name a starter out of some assforward strategy of gamesmanship, I'll get annoyed.
-
He does need reps but a few days alternating in camp won't ruin his potential chemistry with receivers. He's also likely to throw to several non first teamers throughout the season. I get what you're saying but I think Baker could use the competition (I think it can bring out the best in these guys), and he's enough of a vet I don't think it's gonna hurt his development. Let's see how Rhule handles this longer term. I just hope it doesn't turn into another moment of Rhule Strategy where he drags out a decision to "keep em guessing" in the name of "competitive advantage".
-
It's possible he does believe Sam was put in a bad situation and still can recognize he isn't a good QB. Those are not mutually exclusive and as someone that has been in both those shitty situations he's uniquely able to comment on them. And by all accounts Darnold is a good teammate. He just sucks as a player. Teammates support each other. Or they should, heh. It's a business, sure, but a big part of that business relies on comraderie. No need to read into this much.

Jones was extremely pro ready... Corral was a mid round pick taken for his upside that is the total opposite of Jones in that regard. He certainly could develop fast but for once the Panthers made a smart move and got a starting quality QB for very cheap so we don't need to rush a player out before he's ready.
-
Corral is extremely unlikely to play at a higher level than Mayfield and even Darnold early in camp or likely at any point early this season even if he is ultimately the guy and better than them overall. There is a serious learning curve in the NFL, and I hope Corral makes the jump quick, but I'm not giving up on him as a prospect even if he doesn't see the field this year.
