    That’s like saying, without the rose bowl do you take Herbert? Same situation really. Sometimes these guys can do a lot more but don’t because of their system and game plan. The question is what can they actually do? The Georgia game showed what he’s capable of.

    That’s the dilemma right? Do you take the Better QB who is most likely going to have injury issues, or do you take a ‘lesser’ QB who is less likely to have those issues? I’ve been on the Stroud train since the fall, but I’m starting to think the Panthers are going to go Young because of his intelligence.

    Young is the better QB. I don’t think that is in question. The question is he durable enough for a long NFL career?

    All valid points but what’s the alternative? Hope someone falls to 9? Roll with Darnold? Sign Rogers for $50 mill? All the options suck in some way.

    How many games did he play in the SEC though? We’re talking about a guy playing 17+ games a year for 10-15 years while aging. Its a very different thing.

    I think Young would be a slam dunk if he were bigger. I just think he’s going to get crushed. Either way, it will make next year fun at the very least.

    If Stroud has IT mentally, he’s a slam dunk. No way for us fans to know that though.

    Think of it like this. Without a QB, DJ was a waste. Given the situation, we had to decide between a wr or a QB. WR are easier to find than QBs so DJ had to go. All I can say is they better choose correctly or we are toast.

    No, Lamar would cost 45-50 million on top of those 2 first rounders.

    They won’t take a QB. A blue chip non QB will fall to them (edge rusher). Pete loves some defense.

    I wonder if the Texans would tell the panthers who they are picking.

    They’ll be motivated if they know #1 is going to someone else. For the bears, they could get a 2nd this year from the Texans plus a 1st (next year), 2nd this year, maybe a 2nd next year from us.

    I was responding to someone who said it doesn’t matter if we choose wrong, it’s just a few picks. No, choosing wrong (in a trade up scenario) pretty much means a top 5 pick next year + no picks to fix the problem.

    A miss at QB could mean those ‘few draft picks’ turn into missing out on a better QB prospect next year.

    Lamar has missed 10 regular season games in the past two seasons at the most critical time. His playing style means he most likely won’t have a long career. He would be worth looking at if his contract was reasonable AND we didn’t have to give up 2 1st rounders to get him. The draft picks are a killer.

    The ‘IT’ factor is competitiveness, arm talent, and (most important) intelligence and mental processing speed. The ability to remember what they see on film (think Luke), see and read the field quickly, mentally keep track of receivers and defenders, and make decisions in 2-3 seconds.

    Oh brother… Why is it so hard to understand that 50 mill per year for one oft injured player and losing two 1st round picks will cripple most teams?

    Yep. LJ is on the back end of his career. He’s just not the kind of player that has longevity.

    Do they do that without Ja’Marr Chase?

    It’s rare to find high end talent in FA. Guys are let go for a reason. Its also really expensive. It’s virtually impossible to collect players like Burns, Moore, Ikey, and Brown in FA. Both for talent and financial reasons.
