One thing that has struck me the last couple of years watching NFL games is just how bad OL play is across the board. There's a handful of truly good OLs and everyone else is varying degrees of suck. I honestly think that's why every team is transitioning more and more to offenses that focus on getting the ball out of the QB's hand fast. It's not so much of a choice but a necessity.

It's also why the teams with good OLs tend to be among the better teams in the league. It's a bigger edge to have a good OL than it's ever been.

We aren't trading for Higgins yall

This makes sense, actually. If we are interested (you have to assume we probably are) then why not wait until next offseason when he's on the market? Cincy won't re-sign him; they're looking to make a SB run this year and hoping to get one last year from him.

Unless he outright refuses to play for them and forces a trade I don't think they'll trade him, but they're not looking to keep him long-term either. So he'll very likely be available next year in free agency, at which point we'll have plenty of cap space and hopefully something resembling an actual functional NFL offense to put him in.

The only reason we weren't getting blasted every Sunday last year is because our D was at least decent enough to keep us from getting utterly embarrassed every week. It looks like we're about to be like Vandy in the SEC this season. Just hopeless and everybody knows it.

You're not wrong, but the end result was still 2 wins. The strategy seems to be to sacrifice some of our defensive strength in order to build the offense up around Bryce - or for whoever we draft in '25 if Bryce doesn't take a big step forward this year.

And honestly, it's about all we can do right now. We're dead in the water until we get QB figured out so why bother trying to field a top-10 defense if the end result is still going to be 2 wins?

Remember the infamous Tepper interview after the draft last year where he talked about not having to spend a bunch on receivers because Bryce is a point guard and can move the ball "with routes" so we could spend more on defense?

As dumb as Tepper sounded saying that it's clear that was a strategy that he was sold on by someone - probably Scott Fitterer - and it was a flawed plan to begin with.

This seems like the opposite; get your offense right and find a good DC who can get more out of less. It's the approach most good teams are using these days.

We'll see if it works here.

Planning your draft out to force picks by position always works well.

Dave, do you think you'll draft a corner?

    This.

But, to be fair, the draft this year looks like it fits our needs pretty well so we should be able to go BPA at a position of need without reaching.

Many of us have been begging for a tank year for years. Of course we do it going into a year projected to have a weak QB class.

Way too early to know what the QB class will look like, but if nothing else Shedeur Sanders should be an option. Or hopefully Bryce shows some life and we can use that pick on a pass rusher or WR.

  6. Honestly... and this will be unpopular around here, I know... but fug the defense right now.

We all know we're not winning this year. Build the best OL and WR corp possible and Bryce either sinks or swims in year 2 under Dave Canales.

If he sinks, we'll probably be picking top-3 and at least we'll have a good OL and some weapons for the QB we draft to replace him. If he swims, we go into 2025 with some cap space and draft picks we can use to re-build the defense knowing we've got the pieces on offense.

I like Hunt, but not understanding the point of it.  I'm sure they want a big, road grader guard to better fit the scheme we're implementing, but BC was pretty good and so is Corbett.  Wonder if this means Corbett is toast?

Hopefully it means BC is now a backup. He'd be a hugely useful depth piece to have considering he can play either tackle or guard spot. Having a quality backup swing OL like that can make a huge difference over the course of a season.
