I don't particularly go by NFL.com because the info is dated (at least a lot of the time, and I've seen a year old before).

I would also say that X has strengths that would at least lead to a floor that's higher than many. One scout said that his ceiling was second to none.

Fair. But if he has that weakness it doesnt go away, its an athletic trait.

I'll eat crow if I'm wrong. Just seems like a huge risk to me. These raw athlete types tend to struggle, even the ones that played sec (the conference I tend to watch since they dominate the league) competition.

There are even more questions regarding Coleman's ability to be an X considering his lack of speed. I'm not going to post his strengths and weaknesses here (from the 33rd team which I find are critical, but probably fair), but he has more questions as to whether his traits will translate to the pros.

Looks like their rating and weaknesses are pretty similar on nfl.com.

The mosy alarming for this offense.

    • Below-average quickness getting in and out of his breaks.

You've convinced me on Coleman.....now I don't either of them.

To be honest, I think the opposite and am a bit iffy on this EDGE class. After Verse, Turner, Chop and Latu, there is a significant drop of snap-ready talent.

Lots of guys missing in the Will McDonald, Tuli or Byron Young mold.  Adisa Isaac sort of interests me but a lot of others are either undersized or severely lacking in experience or strength.

Not a fan of this class at all.

Have 1 true like which would be in the 3rd-ish (but could rise): Kneeland out of WMich.

Elliss has a Dwight Freeney esque spin move and is a ton of fun to watch.  Could be the other to watch, but I don't see top-50 talent. He's more top-100.

Those two-- Kneeland and Elliss would be my watches, but no way at 33, Kneeland maybe at 39 (or a trade down)

That's why I've been looking at the OLB recruits like Wilson, Edgerrin Cooper. Those guys can get pressure as stand up LBs. Still not that many of them. But at least some starter types at 33 and 39.

Those guys you mentioned will be gone by the 20s most likely. Latu may drop due to injury concern but doubt he makes 33.

  4. Yes, I do see them drafting later round developmental guys but carrying 8 is likely the plan. Corbett makes me nervous. We'll learn if he and Icky can carry their weight. Otherwise in 2025, we'll be looking for at least 1 new starter, assuming they don't keep icky for a guard spot, if he fails at tackle.

I mean, if you lock Adam Thielen in the slot for a small ball QB/O.....it's going to cap it.  I mean, you can force feed him all day in the slot.  Teams also often gave him stuff too as a by-product of managing downs.   His yards per catch wasn't just low.....he had the lowest yards per catch of any WR in the top 100 players in yards.

I mean, you don't have to remove Thielen....but he shouldn't be dominating the slot every down.  That shouldn't be your plan for that area of the field.

We either got to commit to a small ball O or move on from Bryce.  We had tons of bad marriages last year.   Bryce needs a Bryce O and skill talent that caters to that.

It's like Mike Williams.  I love Mike Williams.   He would be my favorite Panther if we signed him.  But I don't want us to.  He doesn't fit IMO.  That's sort of Theilen for me.  It's just not a good match given what you need out of your skill players for Bryce.

Interesting comment. What kind of WRs do you have in mind when you say "small" ball?

It's literally the toilet bowl of the Mississippi.

It is, I lived down there for 5 years out of college. Will never go back. Just hated the area. People were mostly good, but crime, pollution, hurricanes and floods, power going off all the time, roads with potholes everywhere, and terrible congestion.

yeah we've had enough larger WR's that can't run routes or get separation. Mingo and TMJ are already on the roster doing nothing, don't need a 3rd in the same mold

To be fair those guys don't win the way big bodied wrs are supposed to so you can make the argument we don't have an X on the roster, at least not an effective one.

In a conventional offense, I'd agree with having X types, Y types and Z types. But if Bryce is the "processor" he was sold to be, then he just needs guys that can a) get open, and b) catch the catchable pass.

I'm of the opinion that guys that understand route concepts and coverages/leverages so they can adjust real time are better fits than guys that can out jump or out run the competition.

I guess the logic is every defense has a weakness, having different types of wrs allow you to take advantage of that. But there has been a tide change to just wrs that can accelerate and get open and then YAC. So maybe my model is dated. Pearsall and Wilson certainly fit your model better.  But the first two not so much.

Well the league thinks he is worth a 6th rounder.

I think that's about right. He is a 6th round caliber QB.

Fields may not hage had ideal conditions but he never progressed over three years. That's basically Sam Darnold. He is who he is.

Yeah, never understood the hype with this guy. He's not terrible, but you aren't winning it all with him. Why waste your time once you know that? Same can be said with Bryce if he doesn't show significant improvement this year.

Besides, it's necessary to give Bryce some pieces and see if he can significantly up his game.

If Bryce then bombs in 24' then it's time to think about looking at another QB in the 25' class, I guess.

Oh I agree we need to go heavy on pass catchers. I'm just being picky. Not meant as a diss, just prefer other guys--but im not some film guru so i may be completely wrong. Think we need an X, keon coleman or maybe a guy a like AD mitchell, not necessarily an X but wins toss ups. I like Roman Wilson for the slot. I also think Ricky Pearsall (sp?) Is gonna be a great pro.

Carolina ranked last in the league in passing yards per game.  I did a mock draft on PFF with an emphasis on turning that around in 24'.

I love the TE and C picks. Think both of those guys could start by midseason. Franklin worries me due to his slight frame and Washington's  height. Just leary those guys can win in the NFL. Murphy would be a welcome pick, imo.

My big issue with 33rd is teams like the ravens, chiefs, 49ers, blowboys(don't laugh, they been drafting great for years) alllll picks just before...... So any WR leftd over, wasn't the top guy on teams that draft well. Like chiefs need a WRs and pass on Mitchell or Coleman, man that makes me want to do the same....

I almost want to go off script.

Good point. But WR is one of the most drafted positions, so it's a bit misleading when a lot go in a round. They often do, since the league became so pass heavy. NOW there aren't many number 1s out there so you are still correct. Just adding some nuance.

  13. Jonah Ellis

Chop Robinson (most draft boards have him gone)

    Chris Braswell

    Adisa Issac

    Trice/Dorlus (seem like more tradional 4-3 de's).

I'm going off of PFFs ranking. These guys may go top ten for all I know

I'm really liking Ellis due to his bloodlines. Got like 4 relatives in the NFL. Plus he played at Utah. A team that always looks extremely well coached. Seems like a guy like this is just going to have an advantage in understanding the game early on.

I like Issac but I'm skidish on Penn state players in general. Seem to have great athletic numbers but other than that one LB don't seem ready to play.

Seems like with wonnum we have a serviceable guy on one side but if we can't get Young or Clowney, seems like we need some immediate help from the draft and Ellis is my pick for most ready day one.

Who are you guys leaning toward at the edge/olb position? *doesn't have to be one of the above.
