  1. Heres a good piece and update on this topic- https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-what-is-holding-up-nfl-draft-second-rounders-from-signing-rookie-deals/

Third year seems to be a issue and the amount of that's guaranteed. Part of the issue was Texans allowing the first full guarantee, but in the piece its states the current hang up is Saints 40th pick tyler. Qbs always are harder to pay, 3rd round Milore is also messing up.

Every player drafted close to any great contract, they want the same.

It honestly looks like some 2nd rounders could miss TC reps, including Panthers Nic. Its a showdown, no agent will want the title "didn't get my 2nd rounder full guaranteed like the pick before". Teams may have to conclude in order to end this mess.

Honestly Woods was pretty trash. Tackles can very much be a double edged sword for a DB. Can be because he's really good in run support or can be because he's giving up a lot of completions.

I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.

Looking back on the 2023 QB class and the Panthers absolutely made the right choice jumping up to #1. Only Bryce and CJ have showed any promise.

Whether or not they chose the right one of the two, we'll have to "wait and see."

I was looking back and seen Evan Neal has made the switch to OG after awful years at OT.......I wanted him over Icky for his tricep alone.....

I was 100% stroud too, I was super pissed about his record setting and playoff leading start......I had arich vastly over the midget BY too. But right now, BY is about the only one on the up&up. The Texans used lots of prime draft capital to help Stroud.

It's still not ready. But if you're honestly about past drafts, these GMs are not alone in making mistakes.

I still feel they should stayed put and allowed Carter to fall in their lap, but best I know Tepper had the worst rage about landing a QB for the past 5 years. The deal is with the correct coaching staff, Baker or darnold would still be here....Baker has signed 3 years for 100 million, which is a great NFL QB contract. Tepper hiring rhule and his shitty Baylor/temple staff was a massive setback given rhule was in control too. Then panic set in an d fitteerererererer had to make a winner and find a QB. Ugh.....I hope they are back...

The perks of being a respected organization that fields a contending team.

Also maybe the biggest part is his fromer college buddy, Lord Lamar told the GM to sign him. It was done nearly right after and guess who was the first person Alexander met at ravens stadium??

Brother, you have to forgive us fans. Six years of the worst win % across all sports has made me very upset. On our behalf its changed us and I don't want to feel this way..... I even been getting poo from my friend who I turned into a Panthers fan, lots of it....

The OL coaches have been really good and we have a core of young talent behind the starters.  I think, if Motown hits the wall and the knee says, "I'm done,"  I see Brady Christensen as a solid backup.  I am so thankful they pulled him away from the IOL duties.  He needs to be a T.  He has to know that his future as a starter might be through Moton, this year or next.  BC turns 29 in September, so he has about a 3-year window as a starter.  But I feel a LOT better about BC behind Moton because he is a quality backup OT.

Yes I agree, the future RT could easily be christ. When he shocking re-signed here for the cheap, he said part of the reason was the OL coaching staff.

I've already thought too much about 2026. The RT has all the options, including resigning Motown. I was never a big fan, but he's solid and peptides and stem cells can fix a gippy knee. If he makes it though this year and wants to return, why not for 2 years 16 million?? Or like you said give the job to Christ or draft your RT...... that I feel is the best current method. With both OGs in the 20 million per cap range and Icky......ooooooooooo boy he could be the first 30 million per OLmen in NFL history. That's a huge portion of cap space for the OL, which I agree with, but in order to offset those 20 and 30 million deals... you need cheap rookie contracts. (unless Motown would take a huge pay cut and whoever the C will be).

This is the deepest OL I can recall in Panthers history.

I believe Morgan should try and trade either Kingston or Zavala.

I didn't even talk about Yosh, Tarquin, or Walton. Yosh is same age as christ and why not him as RT after good swing tackle years? Tarquin is a UDFA on the prayer program, 150,000 in guarantees and why not him in 2026? Walton seems to be a OL coach favorite, he followed the Tampa Bay staff here after 2 years there and add in one year here, he's stuck around for some reason. I think they need to spend very light on RT and Panthers have lots of options, I love it.

Why didn’t we just keep woods another year?

He got 5mill per deal from the Titans.

He was the tacks leader and leader of the unit, at least he tried to be in the right spot and made efforts to tackles players.

They gave the brinks truck to Tre'von and couldnt fit that 5 mill with him I guess. I was a fan of woods and he did what was rare in the NFL he stayed for the whole length of his contract.

They also fired the safety coach.

I get it.  Ended the season playing some of his best and we drafted a weapon in the top 10 for him.  Same OL, Same RB, Same system, with JT, XL, and Coker each having a year's experience.  It's all lined up for him to take the next step and hopefully he will.

I'd say or believe the RB room has or will improve. Rico > inches. Then 3rd RB is 4th rounder Trevor Etienne, who we don't know what he bring, should be more than last year and I heard he's got good hands.

All the TEs are young, even back issue Tremble is 24. Evans is a worker and Sanders has been getting props on his body. Sighlt edge points up here too, imo.

OL everyone but Motown should be better too, they are mostly OL "young" and that was the first season with the OL coaches. Did you know they have a personal coach for C, IOL, and OTs?? They got three OL coaches on this staff, I don't believe any other team has this method.

You know about the talent added to WR room.

It does come down to BY.

If I say BY wins the MVP award, how would that look team-wise??

all the Panthers had to do was ask one person with even the smallest sense of the current state of the internet/Social Media and they would have been like:

"The internet is going to eat this alive and meme this back into our faces so hard. Don't do it."

The sad part is Panthers SM team was once in tune and godlike with the SM handling.... The only team I can think of that could pull this " leave your mark " is the chiefs. They are in the middle of a dynasty run and win 12 games on a bad year....... terrible move by Panthers.

I mean even during the 7-9 years I was able and ready to talk trash with all other teams fan base...... 5-12s, 2-15, 6 new HCs, poor drafting...... I have been locked in a library and my best line is " no comment "..... God dam its been a rough 6 years and now the Panthers gave other teams this "leave your mark" ammo..... They better God dam win.

Need another hand so I can give this 3 thumbs down

I just got done with giving tepper major props for spending big millions to win and now this?!?!?!

Because they think he's gonna bust and they want to be able to wiggle out of the deal. Everyone knew he was boom or bust. I think something happened since the draft that makes them think he's a bust.

I say the blame goes to the GM, in this case its Mike Browns daughter since shes the chief contract person. The bungals don't even have a person listed as GM, cause that would cost more money to pay them. I've heard they also pay scouts the least among teams too...

This is just classic bungals having a repeat like in the "old" holdout days. They were the worst team about holdouts too........again blame the GM daughter. The deal is I believe she is just doing what Mike Brown wants, to save every penny possible.... Mike use to send her to owners meetings too, i bet she flew coach on southwest....

Poverty franchise behavior.  If you don't like him as a 3rd rounder then why'd you draft him there?  As others have said, they likely found out some new information and have buyer's remorse.

Our FO didn't give DJ Johnson a hard time for being a bad pick.

Yea, I don't know why they are insisting this new clause to be be included. (well its money, its always money). Just the issue, or one of the big issues, is no other team is doing it. They are trying to start a trend..... guess what the team picked right after and before stewart didn't not have this clause in the contract and they have already signed. They totally look like the bad guy in all this and like I posted before, their rep is awful among agents.

Mike Brown uses his daughter negotiate contracts cause she took law courses. Look it up, many say if she is doing that, she is the GM... I bet you can not guess who the GM is....... save you some time, there isn't one.... so maybe it is the daughter....

  13. 1 hour ago, PNW_PantherMan said:

How can you not afford a guy you drafted?  They are slotted contracts?  This never happens.  This isn't baseball lol.

Best I heard its a clause the bungals want to add. It prevents them form paying the full guaranteed amount if triggered. No one knows the details of the clause, but guesses are it relates to off-field stuff.

Stewart is in the right here. Before they signed burrow, chase, and Higgins they were the cheapest team in the league bar none. Unlike tepper or jarrah Jones or any other NFL ownership, all Mike brown owns is the beagals. Every other owner has many other money making businesses, not bungals.

I still remember when Brenston Bunker was starting on WFNZ and he told the story about the beagals telling him to pick a used cup form a huge pile, LOLS! They been on hard knocks and I remember Marvin lewis telling the players not to take home Gatorade bottles........* but in that case, I believe some players were taking a back pack and filling it up with drinks. Still you make millions(around 200million) in net profit and Im sure coke gave the team those bottles, still...

Its a 32 team billion business, someone has to the cheapest.....Panthers were around the next cheapest team before tepper bought them and he has POURED millions upon millions into the team. He bought a bubble that Richardson never would, so the team had to gather in a old building during the rain. He spent millions on coofus machines that he just gave away like the bubble. Tepper made that AC trailer a thing. I've trashed him about his concerts and taking away end zone seats from fans. But the guy will spend money any way in efforts to better the team, dang I just remembered the deal he gave Rhule- more than Andy Reid at the time.

I know results have not came, but Id 100% take Tepper over Mike brown as a owner.

But wasn’t that the same thing with Fuller? And he was terrible. I feel like we have brought in a lot of guys because of Evero’s familiarity with them and it hasn’t helped at all. Idk why Evero gets such a pass. The Saints scored on every.single.drive week 1 when we were still healthy and had Brown. The Broncos defense got better after he left. When will he stop getting a pass for “not having players” and start getting hammered for not developing players or getting the best out of the players he has?

He ran out of excuses this past year with the sorriest panther defense in its 30 year history. I get DB was a huge loss, scheme up and figure it out. There was poor game plans and poor calls during the whole season. Like you said they started bad and NEVER showed improvement. Personally he needs to show me something by week 8 or fire his arse that week. Plenty of other DCs were making chicken salad with chicken shiit.

The big issue for me, is he is the highest paid DC in the league. If you are that guy you need to produce better than 32nd in many defense categorizes. He can not have a repeat.

We may sniff around some safeties but wouldn't be surprised if we don't end up getting one of these guys like Blackmon/Simmons/etc.  If we still haven't popped, we should wait and see who ends up available come preseason.

Overall, it's not a position I'm super concerned about/low priority.  I wouldn't mind seeing how the young guys look.  Falcons and us swapping FSs would be meh.  (They've got Fuller now) and don't think it serves us well getting a 32 y/o to plop in for a season.  Develop.

In past years this is how you end OTAs, minicamp, and rookie camp. Big table meeting, with the HC asking each position coach about their group. For the weak ones or ones with rookies of the non-first/second scheduled to start, the HC will asked them - " Would you state your job on the rookies being ready?? ". Then 99% of the coaches say they need to call a vet in. No coach is willing to state their or have a belief that a rookie can make 17 games in this league.
