should of just kept this dude.  I mean, he actually can play 90s era football.

Canales had the worst rush O and ran into fewer loaded boxes than almost every team in the entire NFL

If that is true, then one more time.....SHould have kept RIvera as well, even if it was time. The whole point was to bring the Panthers into more modern system. Choosing RHule was the first huge mistake, cause he wanted to do was 90s stuff as well.......then fire the one coach that was passing orientate, the next big mistake.

Wilks just looked at what they did well and got rid of the other plays..... and he went 6-6 and should have made the playoffs if not for the choke job.

I didn't want rhule AT ALL and wasn't on the wilks wragon either.  Shane Steichen was my only pick, but he didn't zoom well or whatever that means. He is a 10x better QB coach than candy man.

The issue is that 90s era ball can still win games and there's a good chance its the best way for the Panthers to win. The rams and 49ers have gotten picked clean, might as well give Matt Nagy another shot after next year......

The defenses have caught up, scoring was down this past year across the league.

yeah, we don’t get any or probably very little benefit from cutting Sanders we need to ride it out this year. And I agree on expecting better with a better line in front of him.

He looked so ’not good' I wondered if he was playing through something. I have a feeling he could mildly surprise people.

there was no benefit to cutting boz, bell, and Hurst......but Dan did it.

Honestly I was shocked, he must have hated having them as Panthers. He should have kept them on as backups for at least this year. If they didn't agree, well take a massive pay cut in order to be cut or enjoy the bench.

Turtle and sanders somehow missed this.

Blackshear is a JAG.  There's a reason he's buried on the depth chart and keeps only getting one-year deals for peanuts.  Depth has been an issue at RB, not so much anymore.

I think he was 6th in yards and 2nd in average and he's got decent hands. Good 3rd down and top of mark returner.

He should have a similar impact on new returns as well.

I think he's a little more than a JAG. He's had a home on the Panthers for 3yrs and fought off players during.

Maybe Cousins coming off an achilles (a speed robbing injury) influenced their decision? Second thoughts about the level of commitment? A hedge? Probably.

Then don't give him 180 with 100 mill in guarantees.

In truth it was a 100 million smokescreen, LOLOOLololololol!!

There a new report of cousins leaving the Vikings cause no matter what they were planning on drafting a early QB.

It's one big mess, watch if he struggles out the gate, it will split the locker room and fans for to play penix instead.

Is a pretty solid RB room. It wouldn't surprise me if they carried four into the season.

You forgot Blackshear, he was resigned with the new KO rule in mind.

    5 is just too many.

Maybe penny is just injury insurance, still odd signing.

Everyone talks about how important it is to draft a QB in round 1 and have the "5th year option" I haven't seen it play out the well over the past several years.

The good/great QB' aren't playing the first 5 years under their original deal.  After year 3 or 4 they are getting mammoth extensions.

Having Penix take over in year 3 may actually save the Falcons some money over the next 5 seasons. I doubt they'd give him an extension after his first year as a starter if he took over the starting position after the guaranteed portion of Kurt Cousins new deal ends in 2025.   In terms of playing time, Penix 3 years as a starter would be ending with the 5th year of his rookie deal (assuming his option was picked up). The money Penix would be making in year 5 of a rookie contract would be significantly less than the upper echelon 5 year starters are making now.

The 5th year allows tons of leverage when it comes to new contract talks. It's like having 20% more control of a contract. It allows cheaper numbers, cause well you have that 5years compared to 4. Plus you also have 6th, 7th, and 8th(I think) tagged years. Sure the QB doesn't play on it, but it allows teams to lower their offers given the years of control.

The deal with penix is he's also old too, so that 3rd year he's going to be 26/7 unlike 23.

You are also looking at the best side that penix can play and needs a new contract. It could easily be he's a bust and thus wasted this important era. The failcons should be comfy in the playoffs barring injuries. Now they missed on adding a edge making a key sack in the playoffs, to having spend the 8th overall on josh Rosen.

Honestly they should have drafted Rome Odunze. Pitts, Robinson, Allgeier, London, with a *healthy cousins.....that's 5/6 big problems for defenses. Most days they'd be able to drop 40.

Im super happy they didn't, but ask again in 3 years and I may regret.....

Why was Coker not a 3rd/4th round guy? Besides small school, he must have a glaring weakness. That size, vertical and production is very very good and I’ve heard he’s elite route runner. Slow? Drops?

slow long speed along and no one seen him against good CBs.

He still has other traits that many successful WRs carry. He's got elite 10 yard speed and vert. Also seems to be a great route runner.

He's got NO issues for drops, I think hes only had two for the whole season. Great hands, but those balls were creampuffs.

Im going to stand with this one until draft, its my best even if the WR is walker...*got in the 4th and sanders is/should be a top target for young too...makes up somewhat. Just how it fell, Barton is a dream being the only C with a 1st, chop lasted until 39 another dream, and got a future starter in huddle draft fav eichenburg. One issue can be the CB, but its impossible to fix every need with only 7 picks and not more early ones. Thomas was a BPA, wanted a WR, but at that point (240) the next few picks then its UDFA tunderdome. Pick the best and sign some WRs and CBs as UDFAs. 5424611_Screenshot2024-04-165_31_31PM.thumb.png.2c45a92659ca19e90d0666152be02a6a.png1427013425_Screenshot2024-04-165_31_50PM.thumb.png.ffc182df596bf73daff9607e74690e14.png

At least all my pick got drafted, most were gone by the Panthers mean talent-eye!

I think Xavier Thomas was nearly 100 picks before.

My final first round prediction was difficult--thanks to the lack of expected trading early on and the Birds picking Pinix.  I got 8 correct, however, in the area of matching the player with the team.  That means I got 24 wrong.  I did hear the hostess praising Daniel Jeremiah on NFL Network for getting 9 correct in 2023.  This year, however, the first three or four picks were pretty set.  Here are the correct picks from my second draft of my first round mock:

    Correct Player and Team:  8

    1. Chicago Bears  Pick: Caleb Williams QB, USC (Hit the lob over the plate out of the park. Anyone who missed this one should just stop mocking)

    2. Washington Commanders   Pick:  Jayden Daniels QB, LSU (Another freebie. About a 90% chance this would be the pick)

    3. New England Patriots Pick: Drake Maye, QB, UNC (Did not fall for the pre-draft JJ McCarthy nonsense. Those kinds of moves get you fired. I am rolling. Nothing can stop me now!!)

    4. Minnesota Vikings (Trade) Pick: JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan (While the Vikings moved up to 10 and got JJ McCarthy instead of 4,, the team and the player are accurate--missed on the trade. I will take it.)

    6. New York Giants  Pick: Malik Nabors, WR, LSU (Correct. The Giants pass on QB and take the WR).

    9. Chicago Bears   Pick:  Rome Odunze, WR Washington (Bingo. This was pretty easy, but I did not know about the Williams-Odunze friendship when I picked this.)

    25. Green Bay Packers (9-8)   Pick: Jordan Morgan, OT Arizona. (Correct!!! I am on fire again)

    26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers   Pick: Graham Barton, C, Duke (Correct!! I am blazing)

If you get the right position, that should count as a .5

You did great, 8 most time is tops, Id never get that high after the first 4 picks...

I see that perspective, but there are some glaring differences.  At that time, the QB in Green Bay was entrenched  or proven and Love was the 26th pick of the first round--not the 8th.  Picking him at 8 was a reach, and people in Green Bay thought picking love at 26 was a bit of a reach (I recall many wondering if he would be a first or second rounder).  Cousins is new--has not even met his teammates.  This will impact the locker room differently.  Since the fans are not that attached to familiar as the Cheeseheads were to Rodgers, Cousins will have a bad game and the controversy will begin.  For that reason, I am not sure they did anything but use a first round pick to weaponize their fan base against the QB they just paid $100m in guaranteed money.  That did not happen in Green Bay--it will happen in Atlanta.  Popcorn is out.

It could easily divide the locker room and the fans.

    Good for them!!

Green Bay also already done it with farve and arod, again different since arod fell to 25.

8th overall is about finding a difference maker, not a maybe years form now.

Only way this works if penix is like a HOFer and then it would not matter. Until then, LOLLOLOLoLOLoolos

Meh, many Packer fans felt the same way about Jordan Love, but I think they are ok with him now.

Arod wasn't new to the team, nor did he sign 180milion deal with 100 million guarantees. Plus love was a 26th pick, not 8th overall. BTW cousins has a no-trade clause as well....

I think it made arod win the MVP too....which in itself worth the pick...

The main point of drafting a rookie is for them to play on that cheap contract. At min penix will play two years from now, thus washing out the good part of his contract. Only way this works if cousins gets re-injured or busts. He will be 26-27 and need another contract by then.

No matter what the saints do, Each cap dollars do matter. It's an awful awful deal no matter the out come. Glad panthers will benefit!!

Those top 3, I think really had a good draft on paper.  For whatever a good draft on paper is.

I think outside of someone like Atlanta, I’d throw most teams in the same boat

I really liked zona's draft too. It's a fair snap shot at a entertainment grade..

edit- raiders imo had a much better draft than the expert grade. I see lots of BPA and need filled.

In the name of just entertaining the idea…

I’d go around B-/C+.   I wouldn’t say it was great vs what some did and it wasn’t bad.   We didn’t have a first rounder and unless you have a top pick it’s hard to feel like someone is going to have an immediate impact on things.

It felt like this draft was for the 2025 season.

legette, brooks, sanders, wallace, and even smith -wade(NB) have a above 50% chance to start. Nothing much in the way, unless Morgan spends heavy in the areas of play/uses early pick there.

Even Crumedy and Barratt could be ST starters
