That’s something that stood out to me with Bryce in college. No urgency. That was for sure going to carry over into his pro game. ‘live to see another down’ is fine when you’re playing at Alabama where you’re always going to get the ball back but that’s not the case in the NFL

From the first episode of the blueprint, Canales seems obsessive about the +/- turnover margin.  I'm afraid it won't bode well for Bryce being more aggressive with the football.

Yeah and maybe it was more the hits than the wear and tear, I guess we will never really know.

I personally don't think it helped being such an arm thrower most of his career.

It couldn’t have helped. He should’ve used his mechanics better and save the cannon arm for when you really need it. I remember in 2013 -2014 being frustrated with Cam for throwing it too hard on easy short completions.  We were spoiled

And quite a bit of that was him never really tightening up his throwing mechanics until his arm was already shot.

He said he bought too much into that Superman mentality on his podcast. I think that was another element of that. His arm was so fuging strong that he just never really thought he needed to focus on tightening up that aspect of his game, IMO. Well, literally not until his arm had already been destroyed.

But his arm wasn't destroyed due to his throwing motion, it was from essentially two hits / injuries.  Tackle to prevent a pick 6 due to a lazy Benjamin route in 2016.  That was the start of having to be on a pitch count in practice.  2018 TJ Watt hit after Cam had already adjusted his mechanics and was having his best year statistically speaking, although I remember even that year questioning if he can still sling it deep.

Eh so 10 minutes of game manager highlights and a couple minutes of the truth. His arm strength can't get it done unless he gets his feet set, but he's too short to set his feet with a rusher in his face so..I guess those $150M guards better pay off. I actually do like this guys videos but I disagree about the arm strength, lots of guys could have gotten the ball where it needed to be off platform that Bryce just lobs/underthrows/throws behind in those situations

Arm elasticity and arm strength are not the same thing.  There are some who have great arm strength but can't deliver off platform throws, sidearm, etc,  due to lack of elasticity.  I am concerned about Bryce's arm strength to deliver the ball when the anticipation throws aren't there and you simply need to fire a ball into a tight window.  Not sure that can ever be part of this game.  He does have good arm elasticity which is what made him special in college, throwing the ball on the move, that should serve him well in the NFL especially when he gets outside of the pocket.  My biggest concern is standing in the pocket, pressure in the face and not being able to set his feet will affect him more than others due to his height and arm strength.

Yeah, that's my point. That literally means nothing. His literal MO is melting down when it matters and the bullets are real. He has proven that at three different franchises so far. Do you really expect that to change suddenly?

Nobody has ever doubted Darnold's physical attributes or work ethic in practice.  He can sling it.

But at this point, his mental make up is what it is. He will never have the composure to deal with pressure and stay composed.  He is a good back up in the NFL, that's all.

  6. At this point, the franchise is almost unrecognizable.  We had so much pride in the Panthers even when we had the worst record in 2001, 2010.  Tepper has kind of taken the soul out of this team, its identity.  For all his faults, Jerry Richardson was respected, instilled a certain kind of identity of pride, toughness, resilience, etc.  The "keep pounding" identity has become just a saying now, we'll see if Dan Morgan and Dave Canales can truly bring it back in spite of Tepper being a terrible owner

Man.... you all have been ruined by Rhule and Fitt.  Take a moment to look back at areas where we improved and try to grasp on a glimmer of hope and optimism....

    Week 1: Sept. 8 at New Orleans  (L) 0-1

    • I think, all things being equal, we split our divisional opponents.  The Saints are not scary, are not coached well, and are going to get old all at once.  However, being in the Superdome for the first game of the year I lean in to homefield advantage causing us to have a few careless mistakes at the wrong time.  Close game, 27-24 Saints

Week 2: Sept 15 vs. Los Angeles Chargers (W) 1-1

    • The Chargers have lots of work to do.  This game comes down to one main factor; can we stop the run.  I think our defense, at least at the beginning of the season will be firing on all cylinders.  Close game again, but this time we get the W 24 - 18 Panthers

    Week 3: Sept 22 at Las Vegas  (W) 2-1

    • I am a HUGE Gardner Minshew fan, but I don't believe the Raiders are much better than we are.  So long as we don't get beat up by their tight ends all game, I think we should be the better team if we pound the rock.  W - 24-21 Panthers

    Week 4: Sept. 29 vs. Cincinnati  (L) 2-2

    • This is going to be a reality check.  We feel good being over .500 for the first time since I can remember.  They are just better.  L - 31-21 Bengals

    Week 5: Oct. 6 at Chicago (W) 3-2

    • This is a PRIDE game.  We want it more. W - 24 - 15 Panthers

    Week 6: Oct. 13 vs. Atlanta (W) 4- 2

    • This is our turn to get a home W in our division.  Flacons are either going to be pretty good, or a huge bust.  Either way I think they will be susceptible for an upset here and there.  We weren't too far off from beating them last year.   W 27 - 24 Panthers

    Week 7: Oct. 20 at Washington  (W) 5 - 2

    • Their defense is good, Offense is a work in progress.... Sound familiar?  This will be bowling shoe ugly but I think we run it better than they do.  W 17 - 12 Panthers

    Week 8: Oct. 27 at Denver (L) 5-3

    • If this was at home I would choose us, but I don't see us winning at Mile High.  I will stick with the copy and past analysis on this one.  LSS - we cannot escape our cure of Sean Peyton. L 24 - 18 Broncos

    Week 9: Nov. 3 vs. New Orleans (W) 6 - 3

    • Home game, bad team, we win.  W - 27 - 24 Panthers

    Week 10: Nov. 10 vs. N.Y. Giants (Munich, Germany) (W) 7 - 3

    • The Giants have an improved pass rush and a rookie WR.  That is their strength.  I think we will be better prepared.  W - Panthers 27 - 21

    Week 11: Nov. 17 BYE

    Week 12: Nov. 24 vs. Kansas City (L) 7 - 4

    • We'll get crushed, and hit the downward trajectory of our season starting now....  L Chiefs - 34 - 21

    Week 13: Dec. 1 vs. Tampa Bay (L) 7 - 5

    • We are licking our wounds from the KC game and it shows up in the box score.  L - Bucs 24 - 15

    Week 14: Dec 8 at Philadelphia (L) 7- 6

    • I think we give them a game, but come up short in the end.  L - Eagles 32 - 24

    Week 15: Dec: 15 vs. Dallas (L) 7 - 7

    • I want to pick an upset here.  No Dan Quinn, Lots of pressure for Dallas, they have been really healthy for a long time.  But common sense prevails, they are better.  L - Cowboys 24 - 21

    Week 16: Dec. 22 vs. Arizona (W) 8 - 7

    • Get right game, but a tough one.  We need this one to calm the huddle down.  W - Panthers 28 - 24

    Week 17: Dec. 29 at Tampa Bay (W) 9 - 7

    • TB is right where we are.  This is our 50/50 spilt  W - 22 - 25

    Week 18: Jan. 4 or 5 at Atlanta (L) 9 - 8

    • Falcons win the division.  We show improvement from much better coaching and offensive line play.  The Huddle is calms down, but like always is not happy.

    Full League Prediction:

    Prepare the poop emojis!!!!!

I would love to see this.  It will all depend if Bryce Young can look like a franchise QB.  He may just surprise us.   If not, I don't see us winning more than 5 games.

  8. Week 1: Sept. 8 at New Orleans  (L)

    • Saints away is always tough even when we're the better team.  Saints win

Week 2: Sept 15 vs. Los Angeles Chargers (L)

    • Jim Harbaugh,  Justin Herbert - enough said.

Week 3: Sept 22 at Las Vegas  (maybe?)

    • Gardner Minshew doesn't scare me but the Raiders defense should be good.  I'm 50/50 on this one

    Week 4: Sept. 29 vs. Cincinnati  (L)

    • No chance against Burrow and Chase

    Week 5: Oct. 6 at Chicago (W)

    • This better be a win, I think Caleb Williams will be a bust

    Week 6: Oct. 13 vs. Atlanta (L)

    • Falcons will be the best team in the division and will sweep us

    Week 7: Oct. 20 at Washington  (W)

    • I'll pencil in a win against Washington with a new (old) coach and new QB

    Week 8: Oct. 27 at Denver (L)

    • If this was at home I would choose us, but I don't see us winning at Mile High

Week 9: Nov. 3 vs. New Orleans (W)

    • This should be a close game at home. Hopefully the team starts to gel a bit more and we pull off a W.

Week 10: Nov. 10 vs. N.Y. Giants (Munich, Germany) (L)

    • Giants don't scare me, except maybe Burns in this game.  I think we lose a close one

    Week 11: Nov. 17 BYE

Week 12: Nov. 24 vs. Kansas City (L)

    • We'll get crushed

Week 13: Dec. 1 vs. Tampa Bay (W)

    • Team plays inspired football to help Canales beat his old team

    Week 14: Dec 8 at Philadelphia (L)

    • no chance

    Week 15: Dec: 15 vs. Dallas (L)

    • this will be a home game for Dallas

    Week 16: Dec. 22 vs. Arizona (W)

    • we always do well against Arizona

Week 17: Dec. 29 at Tampa Bay (L)

    • revenge game for TB who will be playing for division title

    Week 18: Jan. 4 or 5 at Atlanta (L)

    • Falcons win the division

the same Chris Simms that said Matt Corral would be a future hall of famer?

and the same one who said Zach Wilson should have been the #1 pick.

i can't argue really with some of his points, Bryce does have a lot to prove that his game can translate to the NFL, especially when it comes to making NFL throws consistently

I really don't know what it's going to look like. If you are expecting Young to carry the offense then you will probably be disappointed. The plan according to what Canales has said is to have a balanced offense. What that is going to look like I don't think anyone but a select few know right now. I just hope it's not reminiscent of the garbage we saw last season. It has to be better right, right?

It can't be worse, we hit bottom last year and only way is to go up.  How much better?  2 wins -> 4 wins?

or can they actually win 7-8 games?  I don't think the latter is happening

  11. 25 minutes ago, Jon Snow said:

You don't know that. His goal is to make him play to the best of his abilities. That is what he's said all along. Whether it helps to win games has yet to be seen. Canales has to also build a team and offense good enough to win no matter who's behind center. If he can do that he will be around to get whoever he feels is better to run it. He's not tied to Young but he still has to build a complete team and offense.

That's fair, I just thought the game manager typically means our defense has to carry and not sure that'll be possible.

Canales will get the chance to establish an offense around what strengths he thinks Bryce has. He's obligated, or directed to do that this season. If it looks bad this season then Morgan will have to decide if Dave gave it an honest attempt before he gets the chance to do it around the qb of his choosing. That's how I see this all playing out.

He’s already said in interviews his goal is to turn Bryce into a game manager and only ask him to make a few special plays per game. I think it’s smart for Bryce’s development but it also means we won’t win many games.

I am so happy we got XL....he's got a chance to make Smitty worry about his goat status.  And the kid seems like such a good guy

Don't know anyone can pass Smitty other than his stats, he'll always be the goat.  I do expect XL to break all rookie receiving records.  Hopefully Bryce develops a connection with him and delivers the ball on time because I have a feeling he will have no problems getting open in the NFL.
