  1. And...

Winning this division really doesn't mean much. That is like being crowned a dwarf among midgets...

And giving Cousins a 4 year dear is pretty crazy at his age + coming off a major injury. I see a lot of dead cap when they probably cut him after year 3.

Regardless, it doesn't change our plans. Get rid of bloated contracts/dead weight players, acquire draft picks if possible, and embrace the tank. We should have our new QB come draft time next year.

Looks good on scoring but can he learn to play defense? I saw several posts on twitter about his poor defense. I’m hopeful about this pick!

Interesting - sounds like the type of player that doesn't fit rods system. Hopefully a change of scenery/scheme can change that

Random especially considering we are winning.... also random because the canes are finalizing a deal for Jake Guentzel right now 🤣

Not random - just sucks when we control TOA and SOG in most games and struggle to put the puck in the net way more than those stats would indicate

  4. I think going beyond the price it would cost for his contract, I would argue a better question to ask is will we be a contender by the end of his contract. I am pretty confident in saying we will be a bottom 5 team the next 2 seasons with how void of talent we are (with or without Burns). If we aren't relevant until the last year of his deal, will that deal truly have been worth it?

I am in the house of we just need to tear everything down and start anew. I am fine with building the defense around Brown, Luvu (seems like he wants to still be here and hopefully a team friendly contract), and Horn (I still say to extend Horn now while we can get him cheap and hope the injury bugaboo the last 2 seasons goes away) while trying to figure out some type of offensive identify. Try and get rid of any bad cap contracts (off to a good start with that), build our cap up, and look at making our splash signings when we get a new QB.

We have so little talent on this team, and have drafted horribly in recent years that we don’t even have that much outside of Derick Brown and maybe Jaycee to really pay big bucks. If we get nothing for Burns then this front office is incompetent, he’s a 25 year old with 46 sacks over the last 5 seasons. You do not let that player walk for nothing.

Yep... Unfortunately we need to nail most of our picks the next 2 drafts to fight our way back to mediocrity. We will win maybe 4 games next year, only because being bad lady season lets us face a lot of other turd teams

Only line I like right now is:

    Svechnikov - Aho - Teravainen

I’d like to land a 2C and have:

    Necas - 2C - Jarvis

    Then go back to:

    Martinook - Staal - Fast

    Then:

    Bunting - Drury - Noesen

Kotkaniemi can sit with Lemiuex until he gets his head right

I can definitely get behind this.

I still think Aho and Jarvis play very well together. Haven't watched much, but how often have we run svech, aho, and Jarvis together?

We definitely need another top 6 forward though. Then either sit Drury or KK

If I’m not mistaken they were our last loss… that was a freak bounce though. We just need to build sustained Ozone time in the second and stop it with these rushes and rushes back. Forecheck! Even if you shoot less.

Not necessarily dominating us, moreso they always seem to win against us. I could be wrong though

If a team wants to give us a 1st, 3rd, and an above average player, I'll be giddy. I just have to imagine teams realize he is a big minus in the run game and even when he does win his pass rush battle, misses the sack on the QB half of the time. I hope I'm wrong and teams give us a ton for him, but I assume other teams don't have fitterer as their GM...

Outside of the Huddle the thought is 1 first

Not buying it. Honestly, if teams are offering a first for him, I have to imagine our front office would accept that in a heartbeat.

Our front office knows he is not part of the future and want to get rid of him as soon as possible. I honestly think they would say yes to the first team that offered them a first rounder. I think a 2nd rounder from a top tier team is the best we can get, so I assume a pick between 50-60

Donnelly says we should be attempting to address two needs with one move, and...that makes sense. I would like to think that we're beyond the point where something "makes so much sense that it will never happen," but we are the Panthers. Maybe, just maybe, under Dan Morgan and Dave Canales things have changed. All that being said, Trent Brown as the LT and Ickey as Guard, presumably with T-Mo and BC on the other side would make a lot of sense. The acquisition of Brown would be a relatively grand stroke for us in the grand scheme of things.

Mike Evans is a nice thought, but would he really want to come here? I really don't think so, but Canales is our wild card in what appears to be a relatively weak hand.

Lastly, remember when I started that thread before the trade deadline about how a radio host on the Lions official station threw out the idea of trading for Burns, well apparently there are still some traces of smoke out there in the Motor City about that possibility. As Donnelly says, just like in October, Jameson Williams should be required by us to be a part of that compensation. Of course their 29th should be mandatory as well (if not an additional day three pick).

I've seen some here suggest that we take a first for Burns. That's obviously not enough, as Donnelly says, because Burns is worth more than that.

We will never get the deal that Scott Fitterer turned down, but their first and Jamo along with a 4th/5th would be excellent considering what they want and what we need. It would be a win-win in my book, and if it's ever going to happen it seems like this March/April is the time to make it so. Make it so, Dan!

There is no way in hell the Lions are giving up a 1st, day 3 pick, and Williams for Burns. Can't imagine there is a team stupid enough to offer anything similar to that trade also.

I honestly don't think any team would offer us a 1st round pick now for Burns. If Sweat, who is a significantly better DE/OLB, was gotten for a 2nd, I think a 2nd is probably the best we will get for Burns now.

  11. I don't know... With Tepper's short leash, if we are like 1-10 again to start the season with Young looking as terrible as last year, I can see Tepper firing them both because of his hubris and not accepting the fact that Young is a bust. Tepper would rather fire everybody else in the organization rather than admit he was wrong in trusting a stupid test in thinking that Bryce was the best QB in the class.

The Burns bashing is way beyond the levels of crazy. Did he have a down year by his standards yes, but so did the entire team. Being the sole pass rushing threat on the defense teams must account for is difficult enough. Not to mention playing on the tag risking serious injury or financial ruin.

When other held out for contracts Burns showed up to camp ready and excited to join his teammates. Despite what the huddle thinks hes still well regarded around the league and would still demand a first round compensation.

The problem with trading him is you have to replace him, and replacing his first round pedigree with anything other than a first round talent(dj johnson and gross) is near impossible. You would have to burn another first and hope he becomes a top 10 presence. I mean look at the pressure generated by the defense and if you listen to the way fans tell it Burns is the problem.

    20240129_201114.jpg

Honestly, I disagree a lot. We can very much afford to lose burns because we are beginning a pretty long rebuild. There is no way I am paying him the 30 million per year he wants to be an above average pass rusher that can't play the run.

I won't argue that he has no other talented pass rushers around him, but he isn't in the top end elite category that would command the money he wants. Honestly, I'm not sure any team pays him that

Purdy is good and his evasion skills were out of this world tonight. Cam might eat his words. But let’s also not underplay the fact that Purdy has easily the best supporting cast around him of any QB in the NFL by a loooooooooooonnnnnnng shot.

Yep, give Purdy the poo weapons Cam had with god awful Mike Shula calling plays and lets see how great Purdy would be then...

I'll give Purdy credit - he is making the most of the luxury he has. But the dude has a top 5 oline, probably #1 weapons, a top 10 defense, and an offensive genius for a HC. I think most QBs could be put into that situation and thrive.

  14. Obviously we lost the trade. But... having CMC here wouldn't have made much sense for us. We knew we had a long rebuild ahead of us (well, everybody except our retard owner) and CMC would have been on his last legs by the time we were relevant again.

I still wish we had gotten a 1st for him instead of trading him for day 2 picks to a team we knew was going to be top 5-10
