Read about this earlier on twitter... they compared it to Spurrier back in 98 or 99, when he apparently elected to punt on 3rd down. He did so because he admitted after the game that he was tired of the offense and frustrated with their performance. BTW, Culley is the guy who once told Steve Smith all he would be is a special teamer/returner his whole career. So, super smart guy.

The Athletic not very impressed with Sam Darnold
Proudiddy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thought the same thing. Aside from that, IMO, he has shown progress but I'm still not all-in on him for the future here until he shows more and is consistent. These 2nd halves, for the most part, have been absolutely atrocious. If he could maintain his level of play from the first half and carry it an entire game, I would be ecstatic. But, I just looked at the league passing leaders, and he is just outside of the top 15 on most categories, while Teddy, for sake of comparison, is within the Top 10 on most. So, Darnold is not the worst by any means, and grades out to just about average so far, but that is about as good as we could've hoped for 2 games, in considering how bad he looked with the Jets. I'm hopeful, because he's shown flashes, and he's still young so the more comfortable he gets, the better chance he improves and grows in this offense... but, crap like that pick yesterday and the almost pick at the beginning of the game into double coverage - that's gotta go. You can't throw either of those balls, EVER. -
I watched this, and even before this piece on our game, in the opening segment on their takeaway from the day, Brees said it was us and went on to fug up twice in like two sentences, including saying that "Sam Bradford" is starting to look comfortable in our system. Brees is a fuging tool.

Damn straight, man. Had he not pulled that bone headed flip into the DL's chest, it would've been a shutout, easy. I think week 1 could have been too if we would've gotten any semblance of consistent offense in the 2nd half or if Charlton could've punted worth a poo lol. This defense is super special. I just love it. It's so physical,, and we're finally the bully again after years of getting our lunch money taken... And now with Bouye coming back, it's gonna be even better.

Man, I'm telling you. I said that for like the last 3 seasons to anyone that would listen. I dont understand why teams played it any different. I still think Payton may opt for Hill because Jameis, as he showed today, can commit a lot of turnovers in a hurry (that he shouldnt), whereas Hill is less of a passer, but is less likely to turn it over.
-
Yup, but I think they end up going that way bc he at least gives them the element as a run threat... And of Jameis keeps playing like he did today, I think Payton opts for Hill because he's less turnover prone. Either way, I like our chances with this defense.
-
Man, I'm so happy that Jameis is their starter now. It's everything I dreamed of when Brees retired. I have a feeling Hill may be starting by the time we play them again.

This. NOW.

I suggested in the gameday thread that we may as well carry 2 kickers on the gameday roster for the next two weeks and play Eberle, because Zane is gonna cost us a game. I didn't think there were any kickers in the league who couldn't kick it out of the endzone since they moved the kickoff up, but then I watched Zane today. I am 100% serious... those kickoffs are scary, and his actual kicking for points isn't any more reassuring than any of the guys who preceded him. We need to bring up Eberle or sign someone else ASAP.

NGL, as hard as I was on Teddy, seeing the offense with CMC in it and seeing it without him, it is totally different. We are not nearly as potent without him, obviously... so that definitely hurt Teddy... but, from what I've see of their highlights, the receivers are doing everything. Nothing has changed about the throws he's making, Denver's receivers are just doing a ton after the catch. It fits Teddy perfectly. It's not just one thing, but that system fits him perfectly. As this system and team fits Darnold much better than what he had in NY. That being said, I also think Darnold is working better in this system because he's taking the shots when they are there, whereas Teddy did not.
-
Yup, love him. The QBs aren't even looking his way, and he's already basically taking away an entire side of the field. And I love what Donte is doing too.

It's a tough gig. Neither guy is getting great blocking... almost every carry Chubba had today, the Saints were already in the backfield when he got the handoff. CMC generating the offense he is with this line is a testament to both his experience and his talent/skill. Chubba is a different style runner, and as a rookie, the line isn't allowing him to play to his strengths, at all.

Imagine if you will, the best defense in the NFL getting better.

"Sam needs preseason reps, this coaching staff is clueless."
Proudiddy replied to Rags's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm remaining cautiously optimistic... not saying this is the same as 2015 (although I think this defense is better), but winning as we figure it out reminds me a lot of 2015. That first 2 or 3 games, I don't think anyone expected us to end up going to the Superbowl... but, because we won as we were figuring it out, we picked up momentum and developed confidence that carried over once we did and took us to 15-1. I see a lot of similarities with both teams, except this offense is far more complete than Cam having to do absolutely everything in '15. We have a lot of promise, but developing that confidence, even as we make mistakes and struggle is key to turning a good season into a great one. -

Oh, I noticed, lol. The fact CMC got what he did today was amazing. -

Brady: Chubba, you mind going in there with no blocking and getting tackled in the backfield a few plays? -

Everybody not named me. So idgaf. Sorry, I want us to completely dominate and embarrass these assholes while causing as much Famagusta as possible, like they've been doing us for years. They need a dose of their own medicine, and a lot of it. I expected to win, and I'm happy to win, but I want to rub their fuging faces in it. -

Yeah, I'm not a fan and didn't know about it until now... having linemen pulling on defensive backs and they have to take them on from the waist up? That sucks. But, it's offense-friendly, so it's par for the course. -

Only thing that would be the perfect cherry on top here would be Chubba to break off a huge run to end the game. -

I'm telling you, the Texans will run a kickoff back if Zane is kicking off Thursday. This is horrible. -

I already posted, they may as well bite the bullet and carry 2 kickers the next 2 weeks until they can release Zane, because between the kickoffs and missed kicks, he's gonna cost us a game if we don't get someone else in here. -

CMC having to break 3 tackles just to get to the LOS. Quality blocking.
