You give Eddie another game ( or two ) to get right. Probably not going to get better then him right now anyways.
-
I think you kind of have to. We are thin and cannot lose talent on defense. I hope they can work out a deal to pay him what he is worth which right now is top 15-10. Keep him here and hope to land a guy who can push him to #2 for the remainer of his 2nd contract. Getting pass rush will boost him up too.

Preview of Chubba and Brooks coming out the tunnel.

The idea, of depending on a feature back to not get hurt, is the stupidest perspective of any true football fan.
For real. Imagine the bitching here if one goes down and the replacement is some scrub. " Wow Dan Morgan sucks, no RB depth. We could have drafted Brooks last year. He was right there for the taking in the 2nd!" as he balls out on another team.

I swear this board is always like 4 years off on NFL trends. Defenses got built to defened the deep pass. Mid short passing game and especially the run game are back in. It is how you win. Its run to open the passing game unless you are Mahomes and Reid and they will get back to their RB by commitee when Pacheo is baxk healthy.

Do not over think it. Just bring in a franchise player, no trade downs etc... we need cornerstones and you can get one at the top of the draft. Hopefully they have conviction in a QB and if not that get the best pass rusher.

I don't think anyone argues that point, but there is a difference between swinging and missing on a draft pick and swinging and missing like Carolina has and losing all of the other capital/talent in addition to the pick. The issue is that they spent all of that to trade up for such a physically limited player; even if the Texans had Bryce #1, as one example, they weren't willing to pay anything for the privilege of ensuring they could draft him over Stroud.
Not talking about how they aquired him. Im talking about why a team may still want him.

I'm not saying he hasn't been awful, but he was a highly regarded QB prospect not that long ago and there are ALWAYS teams who will take a shot on a player like that, even if they haven't lived up to their draft stock. Especially when the narrative is that his failure was 100% on the organization and team around him.
See: Sam Darnold.
Yeah he is still young enough that a team can look back at their scouting of him and wonder if they can bring out the potential they saw. I still think its real funny that people here are not willing to admit that Bryce Young was going to be drafted in the top 5 picks of the draft last year.
-
To be a seller you need a buyer......no one is buying the guys that are basically special teamers or practice squaders. There are others available that don't require giving up draft capital on. We need to keep the guys that can add some value on STs and as backups with some developmental upside and draft better. That is it.

offensive roster isn't terrible though. and he is an offensive coach.
Its alright, good if all healthy but otherwise thin. The biggest need being QB. I still think you need to give him time for 3 things :
1 : to get better as HC in general, feel out the role, work on proper delegation and balance
2 : to work with Dan Morgan to bring in the players that fit what they want to do and hopefully build out a more robust roster ( which I think they started with. XL, Sanders and probably Brooks should be staples moving forward )
3: Build the locker room culture. This is a huge part of the NFL and it takes time and the right guys in the locker room to make it happen.
Tepper will probably wait to see what year 3 looks like. The same way he did with Rhule.

Too early to tell. Rookie HC, terrible roster. You have to give people time to grow, these things aren't just plug and play.
-
If you are waiting for Tepper to sell.....you will be waiting a very long time. Our next owner will be Nicole Tepper. Get used to it.

There isn't enough talent here to let him walk. I think you try to sign him on a 3 year deal without the deal being outrageous. Only way you let him go is a 2nd round pick IMO.

It's too early to judge but my general thoughts at this moment:
QB: Far too much assumptions to make but on the face of it, this is a demerit for Canales because he was supposed to make BY look better and somehow, he looked the worst he had been. I don't consider this fatal because - at least on my end - Canales should get the chance to get the QB he wants if/when BY is not the answer. Dalton isn't his guy either but he is playing pretty much how he had been playing elsewhere.
Playcalling: A mixed bag. I do like how we’re willing to attack downfield more often, but I think we're overdoing it considering the paramount important of TOP because our defense is utterly putrid and wasting downs on low percentage plays does not sit well with me. This ties into not running the ball enough, sometimes Canales had said we'd be doing.
Overall scheme: Better than last year, but that's such a low bar. Not sure if what we have connects with the supposed mantra of getting the ball out within 2.x seconds.
Challenges: Nothing egregious that I can recall.
Timeouts: A bit weird at times but also nothing egregious.
Decision making: We've been on the backfoot too often to make a good assessment. Going for it on 4th down is all but a given.
Roster management: More Coker = Good. Ian Thomas = Why?
There are two ways to look at it. He could have been tasked with making Young better OR he could have been tasked to find out if Young is viable. It just a slightly different perspective. Personally I think his career will rest on how he does with the QB he brings in.

Why does this matter?
It doesn't. This guy been talking about this since we signed coach. It's a little sad.

That I could view Canales as our coach for the future. So far I am liking it. This team was thin and its only getting worse, so W's and L's is going to be a hard metric to use. It will be interesting to see how this team ( mainly the offense ) looks in December.

Personally not too bad. I think having a coach I believe can turn this thing around is great. I was only hoping to see improvement offensively. It's a little better then I hope TBH, it seems like Canales and Idzik know how to tailor an offense for the QB. That in turn makes me feel better about them getting an opportunity to bring their guy in at QB ( whenever that is, I'd imagine in the next 2 years ).
Defense is just thin and getting thinner, hard to control that. Off loading Burns was the right move. I would imagine that next off season will be focused on fixing the defensive side as much as possible. Which brings me to Dan Morgan. I just got a soft spot for him so I am a little bias in my rooting for him. I think he did a pretty good job all things considered. Draft was solid, not amazing. Free Agency I liked what they did for the most part ( can't remember it all lol ), I don't think we were going to sign any all stars this year but hopefully the role players we got can shine as we add some talent next to them next year. One thing I think we will get from Morgan is more value on tape vs analytics, which I think has really sunk our drafts/FAs over the last few years.
Basically I believe we have a good foundation to build on here. Players are in on the coach and he looks like he has the vision and ability to create an identity here and I think Dan Morgan is alright.

I hear you. I think everyone has their own definition of game manager. I see a game manager as really a play manager. High level game managers work the play to perfection. Game changers can work outside the confines of the play and make chicken poop into filet mignon - Pat Mahomes.
Its a good point. Peyton Manning was the ultimate game manager and also one of the best to ever do it. He orchestrated that offense to perfection. I think the point you are making is the exact point Cam was making last year with the whole Purdy thing. He said there are only 2-3 "game changers" at QB at a time.

This game I won't play with this team. All of them, need to bring the A game every game.

While this years O-line looks 1000 times better and I’m loving it. I’m going to stop dogging on last years line. After researching, Bryce was holding the ball way too long and on top of that he had the same bad habit he had to start this year, he was running into sacks. I don’t think the o-line, or any player from last year, was as bad as lots of people want to make out they were.
Nah, they were trash last year. There is a reason they went out and spent all that money. The inside of the line was a turnstile and Ikky hit his sophomore slump.

Unpopular truth here: Bryce's struggles have NOTHING to do with his height. He can't see the field, makes terrible decisions and throws, with terrible footwork because he's a terrible NFL QB, not because he's short.
I am with you. I still think if he were able to put it all together it would look good. I just don't think he is mentally strong enough. Hes got no dog in him, just a laid back Cali kid who has always been in positive situations. Not that there is anything wrong with that inherently, you can only face adversary when it presents itself. Its how you respond that matters. I think a big flag pointing to this is the fact that the biggest "adversity" his father could point to was moving from CA to Alabama.

He is not but on that list I can see them looking at him and thinking they can unlock some potential.

I could see them taking a look at Wilson. Elite arm talent, experience and young. There is some potential there.

Not likely, it would have been tough even with DB out there. Run the ball, control the clock and most importantly score TDs in the RZ. Stopping Saquon is pipe dream, the Eagles have made it very difficult for them to get 1 dimensional on offense.
