We're fooling ourselves if a meh QB rating like that from Bryce will be good enough for this fanbase. Blood is already in the water and well is poisoned.

Pretty heavy language to describe simply asking the starting QB to play like a #1 overall pick. You'd think we drafted him in the 7th round.

Looking at your posts about him I'm guessing you're a Bama fan.

Also it's a flawed approach, if we go down 2 scores that whole game plan is out the window and the QB has to start slinging it

My thing is. I distinctly remember games where even despite our OL woes we were running the ball well enough. But the passing game was abysmal. Yes we gave up a lot of sacks but we still left many passing plays and opportunities on the field. Let's hope Canales has some solid plans to restore a balanced offense.

  3. He's 28 so sounds like a stopgap while the rookie we drafted rehabs and gets up to game speed. Certainly don't want to rush that. Penny was a pretty decent fantasy get in a pinch last year. He can produce but he's missed some time. Is he better than Sanders? Probably.

We certainly seem to be very committed to a strong running game. Good thing to have for any QB. But if we are going to start scoring points we have to sling the rock when it counts too.

Maybe I haven't kept up, but how do we know he set our to deceive in order to keep his stock high? That's a strong character-indicting accusation. Especially when it's not all that different than what others have done in the past. The only potentially eyebrow-raising is not being weighed again. Otherwise, he didn't do anything in the draft process that others haven't done and won't do in the future. In fact, the fact that he put all his eggs in the basket of his own pro day (which he didn't look great at) actively opposes the idea of setting out to deceive.

To the Panthers the combine didn't matter apparently they already had their mind made up. Not to mention people had seen his pro day and the deep passing concerns showed up there just as it had been at Bama (he had the worst deep ball by far between him Mac Jones Tua and Jalen Hurts). Most people agree he and his camp engaged in deception about his actual playing weight and not throwing at the combine was a strategic move. Whether or not someone feels that raises to the level of malicious is a personal opinion I guess. But knowing it got him drafted first overall and then he went on to have one of the worst passing seasons ever despite the circumstances does not necessarily put his actions before draft night in a positive light. It also does not help matters that the GM who risked it all to draft him and lost his job in the process talked about Bryce Young getting into the weight room and then Bryce Young shows up this month looking every bit exactly the same. All of this puts even more pressure on Bryce Young in his second season. Hopefully he rises to the occasion. If not this is going to go down as one of the most cautionary draft stories in many years. Stay tuned.

  5. Well at least we got the first zinger about Bryce haters out of the way on the first page.

Folks here also groaned about Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold haters too.

We actually looked significantly worse after Reich was fired. That shutout loss to the Jaguars missing their starting QB is one of the worst I've seen in a long time. And that's saying something for our Panthers.

People can want to protect him from meanies online but there are still 17 games to be played and 16 games worth of tape on him that plenty of defenders are waiting to pounce on. I can assure they don't give a damn about haters.

  6. It will not require him moving mountains.

But it will require standards that have applied to all first overall pick QB's over the years.

    Basic requirements:

    -Improve his footwork.

-Display at minimum an above average arm compared to his peers.

-Establish an undisputed consistent deep ball connection.

-Finish the season no less than top 12-15 in most statistical passing categories. Particularly yards per pass attempt.

All of this is doable with the additions we've made and with Canales on board.

Even Kyle Allen looked competent for more than one single game.

If not. First round QB in 2025.

See the Titans and Derrick Henry.

That style of play is not winning any super bowls in todays NFL.

They never made it further than the conference game. That was with a QB, RB, and WR all better than anything our current group has ever put on the field.

Hiding Bryce with that style of play is really a damn shame. Just play out this year and try again at QB if we have to play like that for him to have any kind of success.

The worst thing that can happen to this franchise right now is accepting and moving forward with QB play that is "just good enough" to compete. In a league that is so absurdly skewed toward offense and passing the ball specifically you either acquire a dynamic passer or you keep looking until you do.

Bryce is a nice guy his family seem like very nice people but we had the chance and did not pick the right QB and it really doesn't even matter anymore who is to blame. All that needs to happen is we accept reality. Even if Bryce Young looks better this year which will be roughly average or a Teddy Bridgewater if you will we still need to add another QB early in next years draft. The only way this shouldn't happen is if by some miracle Bryce Young has a season like CJ Stroud had as a rookie. But no amount of hopium is going to make the odds of that happening higher than 10%.

    How do you feel about:

    Steve Clifford

    James Borego

    Steve Clifford

    Mike Dunlap

    Paul Silas

    Larry Brown

    Sam Vincent

    Bernie Bickerstaff

    Paul Silas

Damn, Charlotte really is the only city I can recall that fires high-level people and later re-hires them and fires them again (Hurney, Clifford, Silas)

Let's hope to keep that kind of juju out of the mix this go around.

I'm trying to be optimistic here lol.

Owners in the war room is very common if not normal practice. Blank was in his, Hamp, Kraft, and even Hunt was there for the Chiefs. I’m trying to find an owner NOT in their teams war room…

    It is common overall certainly.

But. None of those owners you listed own a team that they have been heavily involved in behind the scenes that currently holds the worst win percentage in all of professional sports. Also none of them that I know of make it a point to stop in local places in the city the team is based multiple times to directly address any vague criticisms.

All this after an impromptu one on one interview where Nicole praised the best thing they've experienced with the Panthers is selling concert tickets.

They bring this stuff on themselves. Optics wise it would be smart to just fall back and let the team president be the face.

C, QB3 and DE can all be upgraded by most teams trash

Definitely. I'd like to see a QB3 with some actual potential in the event of unforseen circumstances as it's a 17 game season and since winning football games is kinda ya know the goal. But I get the sense we will see a relatively boring young QB that will not make any waves at all.

I just am not aware of regimens that offer increased velocity which is the biggest weakness I can see in Young (that needs addressing right now).

Is it possible to do? Who has done it that we can see as an example? I guess I am saying before I believe weights will give him added zip on the ball, I would want proof that it works.

I think weight room would help him not be pulled down by two fingers, even if they are big strong DL fingers. They are still fingers controlling 185 lbs. So that needs to be addressed but it is a secondary issue behind his footwork and ball velocity.

It might help too, in allowing him to retain some velocity while not putting 100% effort into throws. Which should help his ‘deep’ ball.

I agree they can’t fix his footwork on those pistol or gun snaps where he slowly goes backwards and does the tippy toe thing.

Maybe putting him under center and taking the option of that type of drop away from him, forcing him into the classic under center style. Drop and plant and throw. Maybe that would help get around it.

Look don't get me wrong here. I'm not arguing it's going to just change his arm talent overnight. I'm just saying doing anything on the physical front after the GM who stuck his neck out for him over the concerns around his physical traits got fired is better than doing nothing.

That's another layer. It could easily be argued overall he needed to add at least 10 pounds not just for the sake of working in the pocket and not going down so easily but let's be honest eventually no matter how much we invest in the OL he's going to get hit some and those hits will add up. His frame as it stands is only going to absorb so much over a 17 game season.

Oh definitely good or bad we will have to run a lot of under center stuff. Bryce will either look good or flounder. But our offense will remain stagnant if we just keep running shotgun plays 90% of the time. You're telegraphing your offense otherwise. That's why I'm not giving Chuba Hubbard too hard of a time over his YPC last year. We weren't fooling anyone.

We'll see what Canales has cooked up. It better be pretty damn clever.

Seems like a legit HC candidate could wind up in Charlotte.  Lakers and Wizards also need a coach, but there are some big names floating out there.

Darvin Ham, Buddenholzer, JJ Reddick, Kenny Atkinson, Jerry Stackhouse…

Who ya like to *develop* this young team?

Roll the dice on whomever can build a culture here we've had enough of this loser mentality mess.

    Also. Fug Kenny Atkinson

Frank, you know what I think about Young’s arm (subpar).

I don’t understand how weight lifting helps get velocity on a throw.

Maybe lower body stuff combined with streamlining and tightening up his mechanics?

The odds of Canales or anyone completely fixing his mechanics and footwork in one offseason are low let's just be honest about that. His mechanics are what they are because he's been doing things this way since high school to compensate for his height.

In terms of his arm we will have to agree to disagree. In the short term adding any level of muscle would certainly help more than not given the situation. We cannot change his height. But even Scott Fitterer talked about getting him into the weight room. He's long gone.

For better or worse Bryce likes to throw floaters to predetermined areas regardless of what the reciever is doing

I know we're in the hopium phase of the year right now but this is all over the game film that every defense we face is going to be waiting for. If Bryce keeps doing this sooner or later we are going to be stuck arguing over why this or that receiver sucks because they can't bail out Bryce all the time. Legette would just be next in line. Bryce is a first overall pick. He's got to figure out how to get some more torque out of his arm. These yarns about his frame and this and that just seem like an excuse to justify him not wanting to lift weights. He's got to match the output of his offensive counterparts who have been putting in the work.

Frank? What game did Sam Darnold play over his entire time in Carolina where he look remotely as good as Daltons one game against Seattle? Name one. Not even stats wise, with a much better supporting cast.

Agree Bryce needs to play better. The oline needs to be better. The receivers need to be better. The TEs need to be better. The running backs need to be better. The scheme and playcalling need to be better. Yet, some are hung up on one player not elevating all those weaknesses. But you're right, barring injuries, we'll know more by November-ish.

Darnold looks worse the more he plays.

But overall they are same tier. Both can make some big plays. But game to game starting it's eventually going to get bad.

Both are good guys and likeable. Bryce Young is likeable too. But in terms of performance the truth and real world results are all that matters in football. In that regard we need to see Bryce Young look significantly better than any of the riff raff we've seen the last few years. For all of our sakes let's hope that happens
