  1. The NCAA blew it.  I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC and Big Ten drop the NCAA and form a super league:

In an unreported and little-known fact, SEC presidents in March quietly authorized their commissioner, Sankey, to split from the NCAA if he deems that the right move.

That would at least allow the ACC and others to get back to being universities first.

  2. Where is the Panther interest coming from? I am seeing Cowboys, Rams, Ravens, Eagles. I doubt the Dolphins would take a 5th, and I think Ramsey would prefer those other teams.

Why anyone cares about draft grades before any of them play is beyond me simple click bait.

Man Thor Nystrom does not hold back.  Two F's? Detroit looks bad. Charges did well w/ Hampton and Harris and then not so goo.

  5. Against it.  I get that some teams have an advantage because they are in a bad division but some teams have an advantage because they end up with a really weak strength of schedule (or end up facing teams w/ injured players or resting players for the playoffs).  Let's face it, NFL teams fluctuate a lot from year to year and we won't know the strength of the schedule played until the end of the season. Why should second place in the NFC East trump first place in the NFC South if the East team had an overall easier schedule?

So everyone that had us taking Williams or Walker are clowns?

Those are bad picks at 8.  The draft grade depends on how you view TMac. We viewed him highly (that scares me since our scouts appear to suck at wr eval.). Taking Walker or Williams would have been bad at 8; one was injured for a whole year and the other was a tweener.  The move was to trade back. However, if we broadcast we wanted to move up as a smoke screen (which we did) then those trade back offers would have been weak.

The majority of NFL draft picks don't play all too many snaps lined up directly across from another NFL player, and I don't think many people really realize this.

Unless you play a game against one of the 2-4 schools that are putting half their lineup into the NFL each season, most teams who have multiple draft picks, MIGHT only have 2-4 draft picks in any given season.

Some skill positions get around 30 players drafted each year, other positions are in the teens to low 20's.  With at least a handful of them coming from non power conference schools too.  So the odds for any WR or CB to get too many games lined up directly against another future draft pick is pretty low.

The better odds are that they get lined up against a future NFL player, i.e. a junior or senior WR getting lined up against a freshman or sophomore DB who will get drafted in a couple of years.

Then if you take it one step further and look for players who actually play in the NFL and make a difference.   You're basically looking at players drafted in the first 3 rounds of the draft, so a little less than 100 players a year, spread out across all the positions and conferences (which in today's massive conferences, teams have even lower odds of player the teams with more NFL players than ever before).

Unless you are in the SEC.  Will Campbell got to play against Kyle Kennard (USC), Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss), Landon Jackson (Ark), Shemar Stewart and Nick Scourton (A&M), Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams (UGA). And those are just the edge rushers not the DT's. The SEC had 79 picks vs. Big 12 31.

I think we hit it out of the park. The Falcons sold the farm to get 2 pass rushers and I can see a path where ours are just as good or if not better

I was a fan of Jalon Walker until I started to think about how to use him.

"On 1st and 2nd down, I want, especially Jalon, to really have an opportunity to just master playing on the edge because I think there's something there that's really special," Ulbrich said. "Give him an opportunity just to have one home initially and become as good as he can at that.

"Then, from a third down perspective, we can get creative with him and that'll be part of his superpower."

    SI

I would be worried about how he is going to defend run plays and bigger more athletic linemen in the NFL as an Edge.  Pearce is intriguing. Needs to add some weight but the guy is extremely athletic with a high ceiling. Trading away your first rounder for a guy with character concerns is risky, but I guess they did their homework.

Last year was not so much but if Legette grows, and if Brooks can get healthy and stay that way, and Sanders develops, it was a good draft.  But I just feel different this year, more confidence than ever, but it's that time of the year....every fan of every time is feeling better about who they pull for.

Last year's draft sucked. I get it has just been a year but trading up after six wr's were already taken was stupid as was trading up to take an injured rb.

  10. We keep having to utilize high draft picks to make up for mistakes.  WR #8 McMillian to cover mistakes Mingo and XL; RB #111 Trevor Etienne to make up for mistake Jonathan Brooks.

He’s going into this season with no true competition for the #1

we have invested a fortune in a competent O-line

    bonafide #1 RB

    solid TE

Arguable top 10 slot WR in Theilen

back to back 1st round picks in WR

    a OC minded HC

this IS his make it or break it year

Don't forget we spent a lot of draft capital in taking Mingo, Legette, and McMillian to give him wr weapons after we spent a fortune to make him the #1. I don't think he will ever live up to being a no. 1 pick but could turn into a serviceable starter.

I like the look of this draft but I feel like I say that all the time for us. Unfortunately due to the bad Fitt drafts and last years draft we absolutely must have 3 solid nfl contributors at minimum here. If we get that then the franchise can take a step forward and be competitive.

I wonder what the trade back offers were? It would be interesting to put together a draft using those picks.  I did not think we would ever get a chance at Mike Green in the second or that we would pass him up for Scourton.  Princely in the third was great value but was it wise to take two edges at that point (probably, he is a really great value there)? I still see Tet as another big body that can't get separation, but i was encouraged by the fact that Bryce and him worked out together in California and have a rapport.  If the 49ers and Rams really wanted him too, i am probably wrong on his potential.  I was really expecting another turd class like last year and this one is much, much better at first blush. It could be a great draft class...only time will tell at this point.

Thank you for stating the difference, because it’s a big one. Personally I’d prefer another Bobby Brown/haloti ngata/Kenneth Grant big boy 34 NT. This D has to have that to have a chance. But in a 34 front if we draft Mason we’d be putting DB and Mason 34 DE and BB in the middle. Hard not to like that too

We spent more for Tershawn Wharton (54M over 3 yrs) than any other free agent and he will line up opposite Brown as a DE in a 3-4. He is known more for his pass rush than run stopping. We signed NT Bobby Brown as a run stopper (21M over 3 yrs) and have Shy Tuttle behind him).  We signed Pat Jones as an Edge for 20M for 2 yrs (7 sacks with only one start in '24).  We are really thin at safety but that is generally not a value position. So who knows how the staff prioritize the D.

I saw a few people on a Jags forum saying that there are rumors they will trade #5 to Dallas so they can come get Jeanty.  At least makes a Mason Graham drop a little more likely

If the Jags don't want Jeanty, Dallas needs to trade with us for cheaper and still get him. I think the Raiders have too many holes to take a RB that early.

I don't think there are any surprises. It will be Walker, and if he's off the board....Mason Graham, and if they both are off the board then Mykel Williams

Mykel's pro-day has me wanting Mike Green ahead of him.  Taking an injured player in the first round is risky.
