I mean this one looks basically like every BY game vs an NFL defense. And don't say he didn't have anyone because Williams got hurt, Bryce threw the ball behind him which is the reason why JW got hurt contorting his body/legs like that to make the catch. It was like a friendly fire hospital ball. He had a clean by NFL standards pocket on that throw as well, no one in his face

Lol people like you are so silly and the only reason I seem to care to log on to post these days. How can you sit there and say Bryce was the reason Williams hurt his knee on that play. Maybe it's because you dislike Bryce so you are somewhat blind as to what actually happened? Not quite sure but maybe you should get your eyes checked. Williams hurt himself by trying to make a cut after spinning around to make that catch. Pause it at 3:24. Had he landed and ran like normal instead of going to plant his foot in the ground and make a cut he doesn't get hurt. Don't put that on Bryce. That was 100% Williams fault he got injured

I noticed CJ WRs were head and shoulders better.

Also the oline/protection was really good for CJ. As was the overall scheme that they designed for their offense. CJ definitely deserves a lot of credit he made a lot of elite throws, but at the same time Hats off to the Texans for implementing a system for their young QB to succeed in. The complete opposite of what the Panthers did for Young.

Edit: And for those that say Bryce doesn't have an "NFL" arm the throw at 1:25 disproves that theory. That is one of the harder passes if not the hardest pass to make in the NFL. Opposite side of the hash ~25-30 yard out route and it was on the money

Hypothetical offseason question. If the Panthers sat Bryce in 2023 and played Dalton instead, where would the Panthers be going into 2024? One thing is certain, things would be VERY different.

    1) Frank Reich doesn’t get fired. Dalton is a veteran and operated Frank’s offense far more effectively in the one game he started than Bryce did. The Panthers likely look a lot more competent early on and Frank doesn’t get fired mid-season.

Caveat - It’s also been quietly mentioned in some media outlets that Frank and the staff preferred to draft CJ Stroud and might have tanked the season intentionally to get fired, all speculation. But the vanilla offensive scheme might have been a coincidence due to lack of talent and competence, or perhaps malicious compliance.

    2) The Panthers wouldn’t have been the worst team in the NFL. The defense was fairly good in 2023 despite the fact the offense was the worst in the NFL with Young under center. With a veteran starting at QB, the offense would possess the ball for longer periods of time and could have lead to even better performances from the defense.

    3) Scott Fitterer doesn’t get fired. A move I think was needed either way, but if the Panthers resembled anything in the way of competency in 2023, Fitterer doesn’t get the axe especially because they hadn’t seen what Bryce can do on the field yet.

    4) David Tepper doesn’t throw a drink at a fan. I think we’re all tired of the owner of this franchise embarrassing the fans with his immature behavior but hey, I have to imagine that his rage wouldn’t have been at level 10 if they hadn’t had the disaster of a season they did in 2023.

    5) Bryce has a good 2024? Biggest leap I can make in this speculation but I think if Bryce sat in 2024, and the team makes similar moves to build the offense around him, he would come into a much better situation after having a chance to learn on the bench behind a veteran instead of the situation he was thrust into.

We will never know how this would have played out but it is fun to speculate!

I call BS. People get all giddy at the amount of yards he threw for but fail to acknowledge he had to attempt 58 pass attempts to hit that number. Almost 60 passes to get 360 yards. That is pretty awful and no way in fuging hell is that a viable strategy to do in all 17 games

  4. Moton went from fringe starter to one of our most reliable O lineman in our Franchise's History. The cap hit itself is not a good look but he has more than earned the money we've paid him. Glad we stopped kicking the can down the road

Gotta say i like this...still not getting overly excited tho. With all things considered the defense wasnt much of problem last year. THe improvement will come from the offense and we just gonna have to wait on that.

Going from the worst OG unit in NFL history to it now being a possible strength on the team is going to do wonders for the offense alone. I expect the scheme not to be too crazy but definitely a step up from the archaic philosophy Reich/Brown came up with. Skill positions should also be much better on offense too with Diontae + draft pick + a full NFL offseason for Mingo and of course Thielen not having to be the focal point. Hard to be super optimistic with how many times we've been let down the last 6+ years however, on paper it's looking pretty damn solid so far.

Sure seemed that way. Like once they got him into camp and found out just how limited he was it was basically full on panic. Like we just traded up to #1 overall to draft UDFA level raw talent.

You strawmen might have something to grasp at if the entire offense wasn't a complete dumpster fire from the scheme, to play calling, all the way down to the personnel. You guys keep harping on things like Young was the only problem on offense last year and that couldn't be further from the truth. As bad as Young was the OG position was probably the worst display of OG play in NFL history. No QB can operate efficiently with that level of Guard play. Miles Sanders? 0 separation from the WRs? Roll all of that into a ball and then throw a 5'10 QB behind center and wonder why it's such a disaster. Young was part of the problem but a small part. If the rest of the offense gets fixed and we have a coach that actually coaches the offense won't be anywhere near as bad as it was last year.

Yep terrible throw but one an nfl wr should catch

He's got a defender within a fingers graps of his face and he's rolling out to the right towards the sideline. If he throws the ball anymore inside he'd be throwing across his body while on the run with a defender in his face. Where exactly is he supposed to put that ball aside from the perfect spot he threw it to on the sideline? If Mingo didn't overrun/adjust his body in a weird angle that should be an easy pitch and catch

Unfortunately we picked the guy that fit in the previous draft... with a trade up to #1 overall one pick ahead of a guy who had one of the best rookie seasons ever. Tepper's Panthers in a nutshell.

Just for the lolz but let's say Young turns it around and becomes the unquestioned Franchise QB this team desperately needs. What color jersey you buying white, blue, or black?

No I was thinking of pressure rate, do had one of the lowest pressure rates and win rates in the NFL last season. 9% and 8% I believe. Burns was around double that rate or higher while facing double the amount of double team blocks.

the reason the stats are similar is because DJ had way more pass rush opportunities compared to Burns.

Where do you recall seeing those stats?

Burns was double the pressures with over 40. Rest of the stats are very similar

Wonnum had 38 pressures. Maybe you're thinking of QB hits?

The real question is how many times did Wonnum let a TE make him look like a complete b****? Burns was at least double digits in that category

What another team did with their resources is irrelevant. The point is that we don't even have that opportunity.  Higher picks give you a better opportunity to acquire talent. Period.

Sure having more picks would be awesome and ideal but what if that trade kept Fitt/Reich in place to use those assets then what good would that have done? Vs. what actually happened, we gave our new HC/GM combo some more ammunition to build this team in their vision.

I'm a fan of the Panthers. The issue at hand here is trade compensation. We got fleeced. We're the worst team in the league in large part because we're making quite the habit of getting fleeced.

Okay well the Raiders didn't get fleeced and still managed to be the Raiders (haven't won a playoff game since 2002) so in the end it didn't matter. Who cares if you pick 1st or 34th in the draft if you make the wrong pick you make the wrong pick. If you have the wrong coaches and people in place you are going to suck no matter how many draft picks you have.

Our only hope is that Canales and Morgan are the men for the job and if they aren't it wouldn't matter if we received 5 1st round picks for Burns. A good coach/GM will turn the picks and players we do have into a productive nucleus that will set us up to be a good team in a couple years.

How many playoff games have we appeared in since Tepper bought the team?

What does that have to do with these two trades that you made out to be the exact same scenario? So why not look at the success (or lack thereof) that move made for each of those teams? In the end it didn't matter one way or the other and the people who are upset about the Burns compensation should be thanking their lucky stars this regime was at least smart enough not to cave to Burns demands and still got something for him while not paying him a single cent more. This was a win for the Panthers

The real reason it's so awful is the value we got in return. The Giants made him the second highest paid pass rusher in the league and only gave up a 2nd and a 5th to get him. The last time I remember a pass rusher like that getting traded was when Khalil Mack got traded to the Bears. Now I think Mack was the better player but they were comparable. Mack became the highest paid edge rusher and had 40.5 sacks over the previous four years. Burns is the 2nd highest paid edge rusher and he has 38.5 sacks over the previous four years. There's a reason why the Rams offered us two 1sts and the reason was largely the standard the Khalil Mack trade set.

What did the Raiders get for Mack? Two 1sts, a 3rd, and a 6th. We got robbed.

And how many playoff games did the Bears win after that trade. And the Raiders? I rest my case. The only way we screw ourselves is paying Burns what the Giants gave him. He won't be making it to the end of that contract I'd almost be willing to bet money on that

  15. The people responsible for those moves are no longer here. Thinking we needed to lock up the core of a 2-15 team was also NOT the move. Would have been nice to have more ammo for this draft but we don't. We are finally doing what we should have done the year they cut Cam Newton. Tear it all down.

The only thing that still bothers me is that the Teppers still have not learned their lesson to stfu and let the people they hired do their jobs without them chiming in with their wonderful football IQ. I pray they stay the fug out of the draft and let the coaches/scouts do their jobs. We can't afford a shitty draft after all of these moves we just made

Is because Morgan and Tepper have no balls, let me explain............

Burns was never going to play a single snap on the franchise tag this season, he showed his hand when he admitted he played scared this season out of concern of injury without his contract.

We let him dictate the terms of a trade by doing it today, it allowed him to demand more money from whatever team traded for him, thus allowing that team to have a reason to be stingy on the compensation coming back out way.

We should have let Burns sweat, let him sit there for a few weeks and when he realized he wasn't getting this $30 million a year contract and knew he wasn't going to play a snap on the tag, he'd have been willing to sign a cheaper contract (in the $25M a year range) as it would have been that or sitting out the season.

I guarantee that teams would have given better compensation if they were able to get him on a cheaper deal like that, 100% chance a team more in contention would have given us a late 1st rounder for him on a deal like that.

This was Morgan and Tepper not having the balls the play this one out and force Burns to show his hand, which was that he was NEVER going to sign the tag and play on it, I'll never be convinced otherwise.

The Giants are paying Burns all that money to get dominated by a TE multiple times a game in the run/pass game. This is exactly what this team needed. For Brian Burns not to be on the roster when TC begins AND we got 2 picks out of the deal. Burns is the Giants problem now and good riddance.
