  1. If Young stays healthy he will probably be the best QB this franchise has had. I think he has the arm talent and the smarts to be successful in the NFL. We have one of the best coaching staffs you could ask for to groom a young QB into the franchise player we need him to be. Just can't panic like the sky is falling after a rough performance or two. Cam had plenty of rough games when he was here and he turned out to be pretty damn good overall. If Young stays healthy I think he will have a fairly solid year. Maybe not playoffs that will largely depend on how the o line/defense/overall health of the team performs, but I don't think we have anything to worry about when it comes to the QB Young just needs reps and experience at this point.

I don't recall ever seeing a Panthers preseason team look this unprepared.  I keep telling myself that it is preseason but man they look bad.  I guess we'll see week 1 how the team looks.

Aside from a few 3rd down miscues (missed blocks, wrong route, etc) it hasn't been THAT bad. It's not like we are turning the ball over a ton or look completely outmatched. Just a few mental errors that can absolutely be cleaned up in time for the regular season but will it happen? We'll see the injuries and seemingly the musical chairs at RG are also concerning. Maybe they expected Corbett to be back by now or maybe it was the plan to have Zavala start their from day one who knows. Hopefully it works out.

    The Steelers doing Steelers things...

I'll say that I hoped to see more push by the O-line, but I'm not freaking out during preseason. I just can't do it after watching football in earnest for 47 years. The preseason is the preseason.

I mean I get it we all long for our team to have a nice crisp offense that doesn't have any hiccups and puts up ton of yards like the Chiefs and Bengals of the world but this team isn't there yet. They need time. And that's the last thing a perennial 5 win team's fan base is willing to give them. I think Bryce Young looks as advertised and will still need some time for him to "own" this offense. Same with the oline. There will be growing pains but I fully expect us at the very least to remain competitive this year. Just need to have some patience.

  4. Are the dress rehearsal games no longer a thing anymore? With only 3 preseason games you'd think the 2nd or 3rd game would be the dress rehearsal but even going back to last year I don't think many teams had a "dress rehearsal" unless I'm mistaken. The Panthers were one of the few teams with a Qb controversy last off-season so it made sense we had starters playing in all 3 games but for other teams I don't recall seeing many starters. Anyone able to clarify?

It's just coachspeak. Lots of coaches say similar behind closed doors that is kept private as to not give opponents bulletin board material and also not to just appear flat out classless (like a certain Sean Payton). I've not watched hard knocks but isn't a part of the point of it to be entertaining? I doubt that lone quote is the only thing that's played up for the cameras; but even then stuff like that gets said frequently without any cameras. To give a couple of examples I can recall off the top of my head,

    https://www.sbnation.com/2017/1/16/14283680/antonio-brown-facebook-live-video-mike-tomlin-assholes-patriots-vs-steelers
    https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/packers-coach-defends-kick-chicagos-ass-comment/amp/

There are probably tons more out there but there's a reason this stuff usually stays withheld from the public, and this comment probably would be no exception if the Jets weren't on hard knocks. I just don't see the point in taking issue with a comment that didn't even name us specifically (I think he personally meant the kicking ass quote as a general statement, not as some diss on Carolina specifically) when you can be sure stuff like this gets said on both sides in any game every week of the season lol.

This is week one of the preseason. Not the regular season which you seemed to be confused about. The goal is to evaluate and learn about different individuals in different situations. Not to win and "kick the opponents ass" at all costs. We didn't scheme anything like they did. That is what the Regular Season (which you keep referring too) is for. The fact that these comments were made in the preseason, about PS players, like they somehow "have the edge" over us because the guys they are going to cut played better than the guys we are going to cut. They also had the luxury of having played a preseason game already so its no surprise they were the more comfortable team. The comments which were made more than once were completely unnecessary and I'm sure Frank Reich would have chosen different wording had the situations been reversed

  6. I just hope this was the reality check this team needed. Maybe now they will understand that as good of a coaching staff as this is, and as good of a roster this has the potential to be, they will have to work for it. Nothing is going to be handed to them for free this year they're going to have to earn it from the top down. Hopefully they understand that now. Thankfully it was week 1 of the preseason and not week 1 of the regular season we still have some time to get things ironed out.

  7. Carr reminds me a lot of Stafford. It will take the right situation surrounded by the right play makers to make any noise in the playoffs. So far he's been a solid regular season warrior at the QB position will that change with NO? Probably not Dennis Allen is no Sean McVay I see them being a solid team this year though and we will probably split our games with them this year. As far as who will win the division, like always in the NFC South it will be a crapshoot.

  8. Going to depend on two things

    1. How well will we stop the run compared to last year. I don't see us being worse but how much will it be improved by?

    2. Our CB depth. Right now we see a lot of Chinn covering the slot as the 3rd CB. How well will he do in this role? He wasn't the best when asked to cover in space the last couple years but maybe the coaching and scheme change will help him flourish. I could see us getting picked apart (like most NFL secondaries) if our rush doesn't get home or at least cause some disruption in the backfield. Henderson and the other CBs not named Jaycee Horn seem very shaky to me. Even Donte Jackson has question marks coming back from a very significant Achillies injury. How well can we expect him to play? Lots of questions still need to be answered we'll see what happens.

I like Burns but he should be a Ram right now.

I also had this sentiment for most of last season + this offseason but seeing how Burns has emerged as a leader and is potentially ready to take that next step I'm glad we kept him. We have a bunch of young guys with question marks already. If we traded Burns we'd have more of the same and probably the worst pass rush unit in football. Pay him.

Agreed that Byrd gets it over Shi.  Shi isn't as good on ST.

Judging by quotes from Corbet and other linemen I'm 98% positive that Nash Jensen makes the roster.  He is one that can play all 5 positions.  If he can hold it down better than Cam Irving I'm sold.  McCray will make the team too.  I bet they keep 9 linemen on the roster with AC on the PUP, and cut another position when he returns and run with 10 OL.

Leota is making noise.  I'm pretty sure Barno is headed to the PS.  YGM is a tough one.  If he isn't clear cut better than Leota, why would you keep someone on the last year of their deal in place of an UDFA who you can control going forward?  I think the Huston signing speaks volumes.  His signing along with D. Jones will allow Frankie to move inside and out.  Just my 2 cents.

Corner is a mess.  Wright being hurt most of camp is killing the evaluation.  Unless he jumps over STO and Taylor I think he is on the practice squad.  That could be good, because if he is hurt other teams can't evaluate him either so we can continue to develop him.  I'm scared to death that DJAX gets hurt in week 2 or 3 and we are fugged on the outside.

I think CB is our most concerning position as far as depth goes. (OLB too but that's been improved with the Houston signing). We are 1 injury away from having the worst CB unit in football. And not to double down on that but both of our top CBs are earning the injury prone label. Not the best position to be in in a pass happy league.

With the signing of Justin Houston, I'd say there's a significant chance DJ Johnson is going to have an "injury" in preseason that requires IR so we can save a roster spot and basically red-shirt him.

I think Corral could have come back from his injury last year in preseason but it was an excuse to stash him on IR and save the roster spot.  Seem this movie many times over the years.

I think he needs reps they don't want to have to rely on him playing a significant amount to start the season. Hopefully he plays a lot during the preseason and we can get a good look of where he's at
