You’re basically saying it would have been better to get absolutely nothing in return by letting him go to free agency at the end of the season. I strongly disagree.

Canes at least got something out of Rantanen. Better than keeping him on only to lose him for nothing in free agency. Should never have signed him without a contract and making sure he was a good fit.

Likely Stankoven on the third line. He can skate and I won’t be surprised if he does more for the team than Rantanen did in 13 games.

Trading a 6-4 winger for a 5-8 one. Still Mikko just didn’t fit Carolina’s style, not a real two way player but a position and shoot guy. I’m not addressing if Canes style will win a Stanley cup. Interesting comments:
