Getting Karlsson means we’re not gonna get a scoring forward and counting on our defense to score.
-
Yeah I’ve seen those tweets. Why would San Jose be willing to retain 50%? With 3 teams after him (or 2 depending on the speculator) I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Karlsson is a $11.5 mil AAV contract. Also saw a tweet that a deal isn’t close so expect something in an hour haha.
-
Karlsson has 3 teams going after him, Penguins, Seattle, Canes. If Pesce goes I don’t see how the Canes can get him for the ~7 mil in cap space we would have left without some creative wrangling to avoid cap limit.
-
Darn.

Gonna hold you too that, have a beer emoji headed your way if it happens. If not, we’ll you know which emoji I’m sending haha.

No one is saying Orlov isn’t a good pickup. It’s just concern that $7.5 mil AAV might keep from addressing Canes weakest spot- a top scoring forward. Maybe it won’t stop getting a scorer if Pesce goes, but until we pick up that forward who can score then don’t expect some of us to celebrate. We’re all just expressing our opinions here and we don’t have to agree. And I’m pretty calm lol.
-
tend to agree, a good pickup but at a $7.5 mil AAV if that keeps us from picking up a high dollar scoring forward we won’t see a cup next season (and maybe the following season).
-
We were ok on defense, sure Orlov is good and will improve defense to a degree. but that change won’t win us the cup. still waiting for the offensive scorer to fill our biggest weakness. I’d like to see us pick up Karlsson who will get big money, or maybe Killorn for a couple years, though he will get top dollar and demand a longer contract- at his age I don’t see it.
-
Pricey. Rather seen that money go to a top offensive scorer. Which we didn’t get and looks like we won’t. Too bad.

Nice PP scoring, very good shot percentage, decent points. Seems like good value here.

I’ll say it again, Get a scoring forward or don’t even talk about a Stanley Cup. overpay for a top goalie and you don’t get a real scorer.
-
I know where he gets that low life stuff from too, I saw an interview with his dad. Dad pretty much said he was a thug, grew up that way and Tony gets it from him.
-
You make a great point! The guys in the locker room no doubt we’re a factor in keeping Tony on the straight and narrow and I’m sure will again.

He did a few trashy things when he played with us but nothing outrageous and I had no complaints about his overall play but did think he had some defensive lapses. Totally agree he added toughness and stood up for the team.

I want him now lol

Summary
-
Well here’s the thing, TD plays on the edge with a toughness we want, but his nature is to cross the line into dirt bag play. Rod was able to temper that most of the time, and I liked his play other than weak defense. but as you see as soon as he went to the Flyers he was back in dirt bag mode. I just don’t respect that. I guess Im not a whatever it takes to win at any cost to reputation kind of guy. So maybe when he shows up, and I think he will, coaches will keep him in line and demand a little more hustle on defense. We shall see.

With all our cap space I really want to see the money go to our biggest weakness - offensive line scoring. If we don’t fix that we’ll never win a Stanley Cup. Our goalies were good enough this season and our defense was excellent. We just couldn’t score against good goalies. And we have to have insurance against injuries like we had with Svech and Pacci. Extend Aho, pick up just one more scorer, get good goalies in place (resign or trades or UFAs etc). All I ask haha.
-
Granted he had a great season in goals and assists and won the Norris trophy as best defenseman, but the 4 years prior he only played in 50+ games each season, with far fewer goals and points, injuries? Seems a risk like Pacioretti. https://www.nhl.com/player/erik-karlsson-8474578

EK comes with a hefty $11.5 mil cap hit for the next 4 years, not sure how that works for extending aho and other spots we need to fill. I wouldn’t pay it for defense. He’s not any better skilled player than Svech who we extended 8 years at $7.75 mil.

I just watched several videos of Bradly Nadeau, impressive shot, monster snipes, accurate. Some were saying one of the top 4 shooters in the draft. Insane scoring this season but it’s the BCHL. I like this pick a lot. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/619153/bradly-nadeau?stats=postseason&sort=season

Sounds like it. Watching the 1st round draft now. Saw this article but can’t figure out What Waddell is saying other than we like our team lol. Are the Canes going after a scorer or not! https://nsjonline.com/article/2023/06/category-5-hurricanes-arrive-on-the-nhl-draft-floor/
