  1. The Panthers have never been in bad shape financially. JR and partners continue to make a ton of money in spite of the poor product they have given us. And you may not know this, but coaches don't count against the salary cap. Jerry's never had a problem spending on players. It's with coaches he seems to take the cheap route, and it seems to be a philosophical thing rather than just not wanting to spend the money. So no, our "financial" situation had zero impact on the promotion of Shula.
  2. And who's job is it to make sure our guys have been properly coached up, prepared, and motivated? Taking it a step further, who's job is it to make sure we have capable people on the field? The responsible parties for the play on the field are our coaches and GM. Continuing to just blame the players focuses too much on the micro level, and our problems are much broader than that.
  3. There's just one problem with the argument that no one but Shula wanted to work for a lame duck coach. Hue Jackson, for one, said he would have gladly accepted the job but it wasn't offered. So no, that is not an excuse for Rivera. He could have had Jackson but chose Shula instead. He has to live with that decision.
  4. There is a lot of truth here. Gettleman/Rivera chose to load up on the defensive side of the ball in the draft. That is the side with the better coaches. So why should we necessarily expect the offense to bail out the defense?
  5. This isn't a church group discussing their deacons. "Kind and reasonable" to describe football forum mods? You leave yourself open when you write something like that.
  6. That's probably the lamest thing I've ever read on a message board. Seriously, how old are you?
  7. Great OP, Zod. Really, really like the format of these threads. It's like a picture book for semi-adults, except without the gratuitous porn added in. Seriously though, seeing the pics to go along with the narrative helps to get a sense of what it's like to be there. Thanks very much.
  8. Just to add to the thought above, the one thing Jon didn't discuss was his contract. And unfortunately, that is the one big thing that could get in the way of him continuing his career here. I flat out would not pay Beason according to the terms of his existing contract. He's a great guy and a huge locker room presence but this is a business and the team has to do what's in it's best interests. So I am going to hold back some of my Beason accolades until I hear he is willing to show some flexibility with his contract.
  9. Way to go Luke! Superman then Clark Kent. I can live with that.
