While that's certainly a valid tale, I don't remember seeing this kind of thing before Rhule either.

Different staff from top to bottom.  It's a whole new world we live in. Nothing will ever be the same.

Just listening to Fitt's responses to questions about his working relationship with Reich as the HC and comparing it with what his responses were when asked about the process with Rhule, and it seems crystal clear what a shift the organization has undergone in the last month or so.  Fitt did a good job answering the questions about Rhule while he was here, but it was clear it was not a good working relationship and you could sense the tension.  He just seems so much more comfortable and free now with that burden lifted off of him and the organization as a whole.

Did you catch his comment about having good qbs on the team before but they needed to have the staff to develop and support them? A nice little shout out to Rhule and his crew.

I said it in the presser thread and I'll say it here too...

Reich was asked about quarterbacks several times. There were only two that he seemed really enthusiastic about.

One of them was Bryce Young, the other was Derek Carr.

I think it was because he was asked about those 2 specifically.  I didn't come away thinking he preferred either over any of the other options. I could hear (although just barely) almost all of the questions he was asked in his press conference. His response that i heard on those two came from specific questions on what he thought of each. I never heard him asked about any other qb.

I miss Food Lion... and Winn Dixie... but the Publix life is pretty good

The Panthers are getting a lot of talk on nfl network right now. I missed the press conference dammit. I'm going to have to find the recordings.  I did catch the one on one talk with Frank.  Good stuff.

That's true but in this case it's a matter of trying something different. With the arguments in favor of him being applied here why not consider PJ Walker too? Better is a matter of perspective 😉

You are asking the wrong guy. But to be fair they are still trying something different even if it's with the same players. So there's that.

Dafuq is it with aging great Packers QBs and this "will he or won't be" bullshit?

I would've thought that having to go through that bullshit as a young 1st round draft pick waiting in the wings would've ensured that Rodgers wouldn't do that, especially when you have Jordan Love sitting there in the exact same awkward spot he found himself in early on in his career.

Because he's a dick just like Farve. His master taught him well.

Looking through this list there are multiple better options available.

Better is a matter of perspective.  It doesn't bother me who the backup or temporary starter is. I didn't care for signing Sam in the first place because USC qbs suck. But I'm not bothered by the idea if he stays on for another season like others here. It is what it is.

I hadn't followed the story closely but would they even have been able to get a blood alcohol reading on him since he reportedly fled the scene?

Depends on how soon they found him.  Considering the BAC of the deceased I would assume if he were drinking with them it would be detected in his system more than a couple of hours later.  If he had very little to drink it probably wouldn't show up an hour later.

dead driver of the other vehicle reported blood alcohol concentration = .197, over double the limit. I have not seen any reports on Carters blood level.

I saw a report the he did not have alcohol in his system at the time. How the knew that after he left the scene I do not know. Unless the officer tracked him down within a half hour of the wreck.

Based on the premise in the OP Sam would still be starting for an undetermined amount of time until one of the other young QB's is ready. Even one game of Sam Darnold is too many to me 🤷‍♂️

Well we do not get to make that call. I could think of worse temporary starters this season.  All mid level starters have their warts. That's why they are mid level at best. Those guys are backups because there are only about dozen actual bonified nfl starts in this league. The rest are what they are.  You have to do your best with that until you can draft a guy that may get you out of the pool of backups. That's the reality of the league.

If the coaching staff actually believes reclamation project redux is going to turn this franchise around I'll instantly lose any of the confidence built over these last several weeks. But I just don't see it. It's easy to sit on the internet and say you'd roll the dice on a Sam Darnold when it's not your job at stake.

Lose their job over a backup qb? A backup, not starter, a backup?

I've seen a couple of people say that he still could potentially be charged with manslaughter.

    That'd change the game.

(hell, even the threat of that could)

He could be charged with manslaughter sure. Without knowing the full details of this situation it's hard to say where this goes. This is probably going to end up a civil matter though. It would end up in a wrongful death lawsuit against him as a participant.  That's hard to prove in this situation unless there was a lot of sober witnesses or it was caught on video, which it most likely was.

    If alcohol is involved

    I doubt it’s be minor

If they could prove that he would have been charged with a felony.  Now the DA can always upgrade the charges later of course.  But what it will come down to the credibility of the witnesses in the end. If he fully confessed to everything then I'm not sure why he ran. If he was drunk and caused the crash he's fugged.  If both were drunk and racing he probably gets a large fine and community service for a couple of year's.  His draft stock will plummet because of this. Mostly because he left the scene.

Bring Sam back for the first 4 games. During camp and preseason let Matt and a rookie battle it out. Whomever is better at that point starts from 5 on out. That way we get Sam's good games out of the way, then the other only have to play the rest. Is this a stupid fuging idea? Oh yes. But at this point its no worse than any other idea.

It's so crazy it might actually work!

After the Bradburry holding call, the next day Rob Nincovich was saying how Belicheat thought of everything and Eagles coach needed to be smarter. He said that's why our DBs wore white gloves if we were playing a team with white jerseys. Ryan Clark yelled out leave it to a Patriots player to tell us how you should cheat better!🤣

As an old Nascar saying goes, " If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'. I think Bill is an old Nascar fan.
