    Speaking of Ben Johnson...

    From the article...

In an appearance on a team podcast, Johnson said that a visit to a Brooks concert at Ford Field early in his tenure helped convince him that there were still things he wants to accomplish as part of head coach Dan Campbell’s staff.

“I was thinking at the time and soaking in the atmosphere, and it was like, ‘Holy cow, this is what a home playoff game is going to be like, and this is what I want to be a part of. This is what I want to feel. This is what I want to experience.’ Johnson said. “It made me feel some type of way and I kept going back to that as part of the process and you know what, there are so many good things going on here. So many good people, coaches, players, I love the offensive staff and everyone we have on board there. I love the players. I love coming into work every day. Coach Campbell is incredible, and so end of the day talking with my family it just made sense. Don’t ruin a good thing.”

So It wasn't anything about his interviews or the Panthers organization that sent him back to Detroit. It was a Garth Brooks concert.

That's a strange reason to stay.

Oh my. Is one of the bully posters mad? Lol. No matter. For some reason it makes you upset that Stroud has a following. You’re just one of those old dudes that hate when folks get attention and want to be contrarian. It’s ok. I’m not stopping you. I didn’t even quote you.

Does not bother me he has a following. It bothers me when you imply some negative connotation to those that are not.

    Yep.

What a time back then. Wish it was easy to go back and pull posts lol. There was quite a few on the “Dareus or trade down” trade. It’s pretty much the same people who are now saying there are no QBs in this draft worth making moves for.

Pull my posts. I think you are just pissed that a few of us are not on board with throwing everything at a qb you so desperately want. We are not sitting in the #1 pick so your analogy is full of crap. Do better.

Well previously on Twitter if you had a blue Checkmark you were verified as an actual journalist/artist whatever through some credentials of some sort. Once Elon Musk bought it any asshole can pay him $8 a month to get a checkmark beside their name and make poo up while looking credible

So people with so called credentials didn't make stuff up until Elon bought it? Right.

Gotta say we're getting a lot of AR mocks. How about Brissett with AR on some designed runs to get him comfortable? I like Hooker too, I think he's def better than Ridder/Corral. We could do better than this Center though

Don't pay any attention to mock drafts this early in the offseason brother.

Nah? Just in general. I’ve been ranting on this for years.

I think “self-proclaimed” professionals would be more accurate. Anyone who thinks Stroud and AR are in the same zip code is questionable in my book. And I’m not completely sold on Stroud. But him and Young should become too 15 QBs. AR and Levi’s will get coaches/GMs fired.

I agree on the so called professionals. I never listen to me media blowhards about anything.  Some of the retired players and scouts can be fairly close on their rankings but they are not perfect.  You can use those guys to get a general sense of where these kids are viewed initially but it varies. You can get an overall average ranking if you average the better ones. It's all just a guess anyway.

Who is this guy? Someone who just woke up one day with sources? It’s amazing how people can start a social media account and become instantly legit.

And like 95% of information this time of year, if it was told to someone, there is a purpose behind it.

You're asking me? I don't know who he is and sure he's pulling things out of his ass. He just stating the obvious right now. Everything is a smokescreen until the draft. I'm going off the player rankings just like everyone else and right now in the eyes of the so called professionals there's little difference between Stroud and AR.  Don't blame me blame the scouts.

Interesting....getting Stroud without trading up would be outstanding.

That doesn't surprise me that he's not ahead of those 2. I does surprise me that AR could go before Stroud.  I've seen them ranked very closely together though so who knows.

I don’t think this applies anymore. Once picks are acquired they can be used. Seattle can trade Denver’s pick at 5 if they please for example.

    I stand corrected.  Carry on.

You’re going to have to fill me in on that rule. Never heard any restrictions given to certain picks.

I'm not sure it's a league rule for certain but it has something to do with making the future pick be determined on the trading teams record and not the team it was originally traded from or some weird accounting trick.

Yea, I’m just saying it probably would have taken #9, our second this year and all the Rams picks. Maybe more.

We would have to use our future 1st round picks not the Rams. We could not trade those in this year's draft unless the rules have changed. But we would have the Rams picks for ourselves or possibly trade them in the draft of the year we received them for. If that makes sense?

I'm not opposed to starting a rookie, but I also realize it may take more than a year to declare someone a franchise QB. None of the top 4 right now give me the "that's my QB" feeling.

Me either.  The best qb in this class may not break 5'9" and you will need to be in the number 1 spot if you want him. Even then he's not the best player in the draft.

It’s a dumb idea. Mahomes sat because they had Smith and Smith was a playoff QB. KC was in the playoffs 3 straight years with 33 wins in those 3 years before Mahomes was the starter. Cincy didn’t sign a bridge QB for Burrow. LA didn’t for Herbert. Jax didn’t for Lawrence. Buffalo didn’t for Allen. Rodgers didn’t ride the pine due to a bridge QB, he waited for a HOF QB to leave. Hurts waited behind Wentz as a 2nd rounder. No bridge QB. Prescott took over for Romo, again just stepped in when Romo was done and he was a 4th rounder.

The whole sign a bridge QB and draft a rookie is not worth while. If we sign Carr it needs to be because we couldn’t afford or get a partner to trade up and we think Carr could win a SB with us. We don’t have a Smith, Fabre, Romo or Wentz so if we are going 1st round QB we don’t need a bridge QB.

I've been in favor of starting a rookie all along. If he flops you pick another next season.  But my job is not on the line as a fan. It's a little complicated when you have to put your job on the line. The owner may not agree with my approach.

There's one part of this conversation that is constantly left out and that is what is the time frame to put on Reich to win or he's out. Drafting a QB may be sexy, but it also may require 3 or 4 years before that player is getting it done with consistency. Bust with a Rosen followed by a Darnold and Reich and Co. are probably out of here. It's just a sad fact, coaches don't have 3 or 4 years to get it right anymore. They have 2 to show signs of real improvement or they're just as unemployed as Matt Rhule was week 6.

You will have to ask Tepper that question.  His contract is for 3 years so I would say he at least gets 2 to turn it around.

My guess? This season will set the floor that he will be judged on. From there I would say he better be trending upward in season 2 to even sniff year 3.

Draft a QB in the 1st round and sign this guy:

    QUARTERBACK: JACOBY BRISSETT

    2022 Team: Cleveland Browns
    2022 PFF Grade: 82.6

Brissett was probably better than even the Browns expected him to be in relief of the suspended Deshaun Watson across his 12 starts, finishing the season with the sixth-highest PFF overall grade and the 13th-highest PFF passing grade among quarterbacks. Brissett might not be the quarterback to lead a team to the Super Bowl, but he is a perfect bridge signal-caller for quarterback-needy teams in 2023

This will most likely happen.  We need someone familiar with Reich's system.
