I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The players just aren't capable of anything more that what they've learned so far and all of the new guys are just trying to learn the base defense. I'm not sure how you scheme around a lack of experience and skill even if Evero could. I'm not going to lose sleep if he leaves because it would not matter in the grand scheme of things. More talent would help a lot but that takes time.

Too early to decide on extensions for anyone. There's a lot of games left to be played and you have no way of knowing what will play out with these guys. Patience wins in the end.

If you treat this season as an extended preseason it makes it easier to stomach watching. It's experience for the rookies and allows you a more thorough evaluation of your backups against other teams starters. Maybe 1 or 2 nfl level starters develop out of this abomination of a team for next year's attempt at team building.

They have two choices with Hubbard, give him an extension or draft his replacement. Brooks will split carries with Chuba or whoever they replace him with. This team needs two RB's to be successful. You cannot run one back into the ground.

This has been said for like the last 4 seasons lol
It's probably because they have been there for the last 4 seasons. I expect them to be there for a good while longer.

I am not sure they work for any of the 31 other teams. If my team thought that I'd be afraid to trust those people with any football decisions.
I hope Tepper listens to the ones we have - instead of firing them because they can't see his greatness., .
Some team will take a chance on him. You just have to find one desperate enough to trade something for him. He's here for another season at least. Most likely as qb3 if he is just due to that contract acceleration clause if nothing else.

Most teams have a two back system, ideally one or both on a rookie contract and you rinse and repeat. Look at what the Falcons are doing with Allgeier and Robinson.

I would say, "The bottom is still in sight." In my mind that's more accurate, relative to the play I've seen from our draftees and the acquisitions, but it also makes me feel better. Admittedly some of the key acquisitions this season don't have to be here next year, but at least we know that they can spot guys that can help, like DJ and Robinson.
Dan did ok in FA for what he had to work with. I'm sure it's hard to get anyone with options to sign here. It whip be for awhile. But we had to field a full team so it is full of replacements right now. His drafting will take a year or two to flesh out the whole value of those selections. The drafts will make or break his success. Oh, and not making stupid trades or contract extensions.

Don't tell anyone. There's still people who think he's great so they just might be able to trade him for something, anything really.
-
The bottom is just in sight.

Not bad, not great. Talk to me after the season. There's too much disfunction to make an accurate call.

No restructuring contracts. This team needs to clear up the cap while they still suck. Which appears to be for a long time to go still.

To be fair it's all backups and ps players out there. I expected them to hang at least 60 in us.

Well that went better than I expected.

Yeah, hence why I say it has to make sense. I am fine with the Dalton's, Flacco's, etc until we get a guy. Just making a functional offense helps the whole organization. We have to start building a winning culture again too. That takes talent.
fug it, you want to rock Jimmy G to 12+ wins for a few years and then trade the farm for Trey Lance....let's do it. But let's put ourselves in the same scenario in which we are so good at talent evaluation and have some much talent that is just a blip on the radar compared to a franchise direction nuking event like Bryce was for us.
That's one reason I want to build a good franchise anyway. It ALLOWS for some of those wild trades because you already have a built team looking for 1 or 2 things. It's a lot less impactful than a team of 1 or 2 things that needs 30 or 40 more things.
Agree 100% on all points. The first thing they need to get right is drafting. Until they start hitting on draft picks nothing else will matter. At least clear the cap while they suck.

I disagree generally. I am fine building the team because it also makes you an attractive option(eventually) for free agent QB's. Hard to draw any serious FA QB interest from veteran QB's(or quality starting ones) if you just don't have a team.
Similarly, if we somehow end up with a younger QB this offseason or next, the lack of premium WR's will stick out like a sore thumb. It's hard to manufacture that from scratch.
Look at Chicago. Yes they drafted Odunze too but he has been underwhelming so far as a rookie. But Williams DOES have good chemistry with the existing and very much capable DJ Moore. That transition would be far more complicated for Caleb minus DJ Moore.
I don't want to overpay Johnson but we don't have any realistic WR options of his caliber without him. He's a legitimate NFL WR. Our other one is a very aging slot guy.
I just think you will waste the first 2 years of his contract on scrub qb's. I agree you build out the team until you get a qb but I'm not for doing that with giving put big contracts. We've been doing that our entire existence and look where that's gotten us. They are the worst in the league with one of the worst cap situations in the league. At some point you have to stop the bleeding.

To me that is about two prices. The price Johnson wants and the trade offers we get. If he's reasonably affordable(sub-20 mil APY), I keep him and extend.
If we get offered more than a 4th, that's an incentive to move him by the trade deadline.
I'm just not enamored with what he brings to this team in it's current state. To me it would be a wasted contract without a future qb to develop with him. Until we have that it's just not financially feasible to invest big in receivers when you don't have a qb and probably won't for a couple more seasons yet. I think they should just keep drafting them and let the cream rise to the top. When they do that's who you throw money at.

Understandable. I was thinking he would be cheap right now and he wouldn’t have to worry about LT for a while.
Paying him now does not remove the worry about LT. I would not extend him until I had to because, as you've seen, you do not know how the season will play out or who may be available in the draft. Patience padawon.

Yeah, the only guy I am probably having that discussion with is Johnson's agent in case we start getting viable trade offers. If he has zero desire to stick around or wants bananas money, you would be foolish to not consider trade offers.
I would try to trade Johnson myself. This team is in no shape to be paying big money to a wr right now. It's time time draft and play those players and take our lumps. Worry about signing our own drafted receiver to a long term contract if we ever draft one worth it.

Eh....you know I would rather wait a little bit and end up overpaying for a great player than pay too early and find out they are not a great player.
I really intensely dislike that move in all but a few cases.
Yeah I don't want to hear any extensions talk for anyone on this team. Anyone not already extended will not be extended until the end of the season, if at all. You don't hand out big contracts to players on the worst team in the league. It's loonisy to even consider it.

I mean, we are laughing at this but consider that we probably aren't that far away from a move like this being a reality. What are we, one or two more injuries? If that?
Someone has to suit up.
I think we are good until they run out of ps players to throw out there. After that does it really matter who's out there? Throw Teppers fat ass out there.

Panthers Draft Pick Status (Week 7)
in Carolina Panthers

So far it looks like the Panthers are the only team in the group that really need a qb. Cleveland can have Sanders and his ego maniac Dad if they want them but I'm not sure they will pull the trigger. I hope the do and it Sanders.
