Yep just hoping to see a change in direction.  Not necessarily a large change in location.

I'm just going to see if there's anything that's improved at this point. Maybe we will see some improvements in areas that have plagued this team for years like the run defense and the running game at least. Baby steps given the situation. Other than that I wouldn't hold my breath for significant improvement.

I know. But I tried to have at least .0001% hope that we could do something more than crap all over the field.

You have focus on the little things. This team will not be one of this teams that can turn it around in one offseason. It's just too dysfunctional and depleted of talent. The talent may be improved soon enough if they get lucky but the dysfunction may take awhile.

Why do I have the sense of urgency that we need to win our next game or we're already out of playoff contention?

We were already out of playoff contention before the season even started.  We've been out of it for seven or eight years now.

We knew that before the game.  That's not useful.  That's why I'm saying its a waste.  All we learned is that Jack Plummer needs to be unemployed.

I guess they needed to see it for themselves to believe it.

What information can be gleaned from playing 3rd and 4th stringers against 1st stringers?

That our depth is complete ass. Most backups need replaced and the jury is still out on whether the starters can beat last years record.

Thanks. I am not sure how it is a conspiracy though.

For discussion’s sake I might argue the conspiracy was on the pro Bryce side, making sure that they got their man no matter the opposition.

Now, the speculation because we have no confirmation, I would add this to consider:

I don’t remember the financial terms (multiple millions no doubt), but after being fired in Indy, landing this job and being given 1st pick in the draft to get your QB would have you smiling ear to ear.

So why wasn’t he? I think we can infer he felt undermined. Or whatever better suited word might apply.

The thing the gets me is that if he were undermined and not given his choice or choices and he was proven right, why fire him? It seems that he would have proven to know what he's doing and deservemore control instead fired. Something just doesn't add up.

I saw a little of him, and don’t have any real expectations. But were he to shine he would not be a nobody to some people.

Beggars can't be chosers. Plummer has a chance to win a backup spot if he has it in him. If not here then somewhere else. These games matter for guys trying to make a roster. Instead of game 3 in preseason they get game 1. If they do well enough they could earn more time in the next game. That appears to be what's going on.

So this game is basically like what the 4th pre season game used to be. A ton of starters not playing... I'm curious if they'll get any snaps next week vs the Jets

I suspect almost all of the starters play next week.

Is this like giving the finger to NFL about preseason games especially since its on NFL Network and you sit 80% of the players that will actually make the team

It's sending a statement. To who or what I'm still trying to figure out.

So far not a good start for Canales who said pre season will matter

spare us the bottom of the roster competition bs. Our entire roster is bottom roster tier. This team isn’t good and you give everyone a night off?

I will probably pay more attention to how the coaching staff operate than what the players are doing.

I feel like the two teams usually try to synch these things a little bit competition wise but maybe not

Sometimes, not always. It's usually agreed upon before the game but not always. I can understand what Canales is trying to achieve in this game somewhat. It's to see who shows out or stands out. It's for those hoping to survive first cuts I guess. The backups are not safe at all and have a lot to prove themselves. I suspect this game will decide who's playing with the starters in the next game more than anything.

That appears to be just about all of them. It appears to be a battle of our backups against their starters.

its no big deal, he wouldnt play more then a 3 and out anyway, no starters will be going for long in this dress rehersal, its more about who stays and who gets cut tonight

There's a lot of truth to this. I'm not sure there's enough starters actually playing tonight to evaluate any of the backups. I'm curious to see the lineups tonight as it might give me a clue as to what he's trying to achieve tonight. Right now I haven't a clue
