I don’t ever remember a coaching hire (for all teams) taking this long. Am I wrong, or is this being drug put?

It's about a typical cycle.  A lot of teams wait until the SB is over before hiring a coach if there's one in it they really want. It a gamble however.

I mean look at Denver, they could end up with a great coach from one of the final 4 teams or they could end up with picking a leftover with not much left in the way of staff choices.

Even if they manage to get a HC from one of the final 4 teams they still may struggle to put together a completely talented staff due to getting a late start.

    Yeah... nah.

The track record of Ohio State QBs in the NFL is a long one. And a laughable, lamentable one. And even if we just narrow it down to recent times they've produced Justin Fields, Troy Smith and Dwayne Haskins -- two complete busts and one guy the Bears are talking up in hopes of trading him to some sucker team.

    Let's move on.

Now do USC. It's not pretty.  We recently had living proof.

It's not about racism and I don't think that's why everyone is mad.

He did an incredible job with players he didn't pick, offensive and defensive schemes he didn't pick. An incomplete staff he didn't pick. Losing his only weapon. His best QB being on IR and key injuries.

What he pulled off was incredible and quite simply why people should be angry he didn't get the job.

It was by most standards to the average fan. But it wasn't enough to make them change their mind on going with a coach with an offensive background.  Especially when that candidate had a much better resume for developing good offenses, qbs, and assistant coaches.

The direction was set the day he fired Rhule and made Wilks interm coach. He plainly told everyone in a press conference a few days after doing so. It's not that complicated folks.

    The time is now.

If you feel one of Young, Stroud, or Levis is that guy, then you do whatever it takes to get him.

We can not keep playing around, especially with the rest of the South in need of QBs as well. We can take control of this division for the long haul if we get our guy now.

If they get the right guy. Get the wrong guy and you have to trade players to get that draft capital back to try again. Had they traded Burns they would have had plenty of ammo to trade for a qb this year and still have a first next year. And you have an extra first in 2025 to take another shot next year should you miss this year. But we want to keep Burns instead of prioritizing getting a qb. Man don't get me started.

Burrow wears outfits every bit as outrageous as what Cam got flak over, but he's "Joe Cool."

Cam set the standard for cool. He was the pioneer of cool for these young guys who followed.  He endured the ridicule and judgment that these new guys do not have to experience. Now it's encouraged and celebrated.  Hypocrisy at its finest.

I was thinking the same thing. Besides, Reich should be the one making this decision, or at least have a ton of influence.

He, Fitterer and the scouts will set the rankings for sure. From there they will have to see what the chances are of getting the guy they like the best and where he is probably ranked on other boards. Then the next stepis to set plan B, C, etc., etc. It's an involved process with a lot of moving parts.

Cams other problem was that the league, especially the refs, had a problem with him and felt he should be put in his place.

He brought a bravado that we needed to see as a fan base, but that bravado ran too many of the stoic/static establishment types the wrong way and the let him take a beating from defenders that no other QB has ever been allowed to take.

And the irony is they now treat Mahomes like a God.  Funny how that thinking changes when it's not a small market team.

The point is, is that Tepper said he would give Wilks consideration if he did an incredible job. Wilks did an incredible job. The Panthers did everything they could to make it seem like was truly considered when he wasn't.  Then they leak that he is a finalist but never was.

I will always be a fan of the Panthers, but for the one game we go up against a Wilks defense (hopefully) I'll root for him to kick our ass.

The matter of how incredible Wilks performance was is guaged by Tepper and the FO.  None of us know how they viewed his performance.  You are using what you view as an incredible job. Do you know if your criteria aligns with Teppers? Since you don't how can you cast stone's? Since none of us know what Tepper had in mind as an incredible job I think it best that we stop trying to imply intent one way or the other.

Bottom line. It’s scary that so many people acting outraged can’t see the simple facts of the situation.

It's because they won't take the time to think for themselves. They would rather have someone else do the thinking and tell them how to feel. It's called influencer syndrome. Well this person I trust with anything is outraged so I will be too. Never taking the time to see if it is actually true or just bullshit spewing idiots trying to get viewers. It's really sad how gullible most people are.

Put the two resumes side by side and take off the names. You're really trying to say you'd take Wilks?

All you have to do is put a blindfold on after you read the job description and compare the candidates resume.

You take out anything not related to the job description, including name, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, age and anything else not related to the job description. Just give them a number.

Do that and tell which number you come up with. Then tell me the name of the candidate. I'll wait.

Of all the Panthers players Reich will be studying in the next few weeks, Matt Corral may be the most important.  Some analysts viewed Matt as a very promising QB during last year's draft.  If Reich sees something in him, it could alter the Panthers draft priorities.

Phil Simms said he was the best qb in last years draft. Phil been pretty accurate with judging qb draft prospects.  Who knows? I guess we will find out soon enough.

Yikes. That's basically admitting that they don't think they can beat out the Texans if the Texans want Ryans. Man, the Broncos have fallen hard as an organization. That Wilson trade and contract is looking like it might end up going down as the worst deal in NFL history. No joke.

It's either that or Wilson is calling the shots and being his usual self. Either way it has something to do with Wilson and that contract.

    That would be soooooooooooooooo stupid.

CJ Stroud, yes. Trading significant draft capitol on the hope of this guy being Kyler Murray light is a thing of pipe dreams.

Someone get their pipes and check what they're smoking.

It's not different than fans wanting to draft the next Cam Newton.  How about we draft the next new qb that everyone else will be dying for? I like that idea better because the other guys are one-off and will never be made again.

I wish we could put the trading away future 1st picks to bed.  If we trade up to say the 1st pick, you better believe we are trading away our soul for the next 2 or possibly even 3 drafts to come.  Remember, Justin Fields was selected with the 11th pick.  There's a chance CJ Stroud could fall to the 9th pick for us. (For those who want him.  I certainly wouldn't be against him if he is available)  If he's not there, I wouldn't be against drafting Anthony Richardson or Will Levis.  One of those guys will be available at 9.

I've seen a lot of projections lately having use take Levis at 9. I've also seen a few have use taking Stroud at 9. There's a lot of time left before the draft and many many things will happen between now and the draft. Just wait, everything is not as one would believe it to be.
