I say nab Stafford then trade back and rebuild the interior Oline.

I would not trade back too far in this draft myself.  We may not be this high next year and we need a rookie QB for the future.  I still would take a qb with my first pick if Sewell is gone.  Use the 2 second round picks on bpa with one or both on an offensive lineman.  Profit.

Teddy is a good locker room guy and could be a good mentor, so they might be so inclined if bringing in a new guy

I'm not so sure that he is to be honest.   And he's paid a lot of money to be a could be.

I don't see how the Saints can swing it with their cap situation. They need draft assets to rebuild a roster.

But the I think the Pats are the leader in the clubhouse in terms of favorites but I wouldn't rule out the Niners and Colts. I'd say the Bears too but I doubt the Lions would trade him within the division.

Spot on.  New England is the clear odds on favorite in the pack.

Just a question, but how would the Saints be able to get him when they are already 100 million over cap

If they are able to convince the Lions to do a player for playing swap and some picks or some variation there of it could work.  They always find a way.

Fitts said we'd be involved in every deal and it goes without saying we have a need at QB. I expect us to at least have a conversation though I suspect we would prefer a younger option to build around.

Why can't they do both?  Everyone looks at it like it's one or the other.  If it were me I would target Stafford if the price is right, meaning I don't have to give up this year's first.

Use that pick to either take a LT or trade down a few spots and take Jones and a LT in the second.  Profit.

And I would give up next year's 4th for someone to take Teddy.

If Watson really doesn't want to come here, then this makes sense.   Stafford throwing to our guys could be fun to watch.

I just worry about our offensive line and protecting him.

The good news is we wouldn't have to give up a butt load of 1st round picks and a top player or two of our own.  Makes it easier to build the lines.  If we could keep this years first in the deal I could get behind it.

It does, but we also had a coach who had no idea how to identify talent or develop it when we went through that situation with Cam.  Rhule showed an ability to do those things in year one more than any coach/staff had before him.  That's really why I support going after Watson regardless of the expected cost (which I dont think will be as high as many anticipate).

I think you have convinced yourself that everything will go exactly as you think it will.   I think you guys are ok with losing as long as we have one flashy player than win with a bunch of no-name players.  It seems to be about flash and style in the short term and the future be damned.

Not me at all.  He is a winner, and is one of the few players in the league who can will his team to wins like Cam did.  I only care about winning, and he will put us on the fast track to doing so with the staff and players in place here.  The popularity and interest it would bring is just an additional bonus I mentioned.

Well if this does happen and we give up what you guys are willing to give up I do not want to hear the same bitching and moaning when this team continues it's up and down seasons.  Because that star QB will have to win with a handful of good players and the majority of the team being taped together with a bunch of scrubs.  Sound familiar?

I am lucky enough to be old enough to have seen him hit #715 on TV.  One of those moments in sports that you never forget.

I agree, Scot, he will always be the home run king in my mind.  He was a class act.  He exemplified the rare quality of humility.

    RIP.

I remember that game as well.  I don't remember how old I was but I know I loved watching him play.  RIP to a legend.

Stop chasing models and just look at the parts. Did NE model themselves after someone? No, BB failed in CLE and became an evil genius. Did Seatle model themselves after someone? No, they hired Carrol and then the GM who where a huge match along with a great staff and did all kinds of crazy stuff to make a juggernaut for a couple of years.

Did JR do such a good job chasing the Steelers the first 25 year that all the fanbase can do now it chase other teams with dreams of success? I am tired of following other teams. Is it so bad that I want to see the Panthers be the team leading the league in stead?

Great coaching, was great QB play (Interesting to see where NE goes now) and savvy free agency where they get picks and players. NE and Seattle do all that really well. Can you really say their drafting is top of the league? Even with doing a curve for picking later? That is not why I don't want to emulate them, it because emulation sucks and is a pipe dream. I hope Rule and Fritters make something new from the successes and failures they have witnessed and not try to be it all over again. Is that so bad?

Who said they weren't doing their own thing?  Their taking what they've learned from their past and using it to make a better future.  Why is that a bad thing?  Isn't that what you do in life?

While I agree it's steep and injuries could ruin any team, it's a risk I want to take.  Scared money don't make money, and he is a bona-fide top 3 QB in this league not even in his prime yet with local ties that will skyrocket national and local interest and re-energize the fanbase.

One player does not make a team.  Winning builds a fan base.  You guys just want a big name kid (not even local) to make you happy, winning is secondary.  It's more of a popularity contest for you.   No one gives a damn who you are if your team is not winning.  Look at the team he is one now.

Considering how dysfunctional they are, I could see them easily viewing CMC as a star to replace Watson with.  But, tbh, I honestly think speculation about player for player swaps is fairly asinine to begin with.  In trades for big tike players, it usually almost always only involves draft picks.  And if that's 2 first and some seconds, or 3 firsts and filler for Watson, that's fine with me.

That's too rich for my blood.  One bad injury to him and you set the franchise back 5 years.

Those are your words. I said those teams were better than the Seahawks those years. I have said in the thread I want to steal what teams do well and not try and emulate the entire organizations. How many time has a BB top guy left and bombed elsewhere? Soo many because you can't emulate the Pats without cloning BB.

The Bills and 49ers (without a franchise QB yet which is a huge wow) have done that. Thats why I like what their doing. KC is Reid basically running the best org in the business right now. His experience and improvement from his Philly days is really impressive. And nowhere in this did I once say I want to pretend we can be those organizations.

Fritters positives seem to be his steady approach and his personality sounds like a big match with Rhule and Tepper. He stuck through 3 regime changes in Seattle, also impressive. But no, I absolutely see no reason to emulate Seattle, take their stability and leave their weaknesses,  which they have.

Well if the Seattle model and the New England model isn't good enough then who the hell is?  I mean they sure the hell win a lot to suck so bad at drafting.

I dont want to trade any of our core guys, and if we could retain everyone offensively and add Watson, that will put us way ahead of the game...  but, if we were forced, and as talented as CMC is, at the end of the day, he's a RB, and you can find ways go replace that production a lot easier than you can at Burns or Moore's spot.

You don't think the Texans will think of that?  CMC and 2 firsts will get you laughed at.
