I see it. the run makes them step up, and there is no risk if we can't get behind them after forcing them into a false step. Very logical

In an unrelated note, it sure is quiet in Panther land.....perhaps too quiet. I guess this means a few things: 1 We are going to let Mike Jackson enter free agency. 2. Nobody seems to be getting extended or re-signed for now. 3. They need to know how far apart they are with Horn before free agency, imo.

Yeah, it is not just the weapon, it is the manipulation of the coverage to cover that weapon-fewer blitzes, rolled S--If you see that your #1 is in man coverage based on the S, for example, you go to the #1. If he gets S help, someone else should be open. We all know that. Considering our needs and considering Free Agency and the Draft, we might have to work XLs butt off and see if he can step up. Not ideal, but the pressure will either make or break him.

I prefer Mason Taylor if he is there in the third.

REPORT: Panthers interested in WR Darius Slayton

I see your side clearly. I think they will go after Milton Williams asap. He has a 90 PFF pass rush rating but a 43 run defense rating, fwiw. -

MHS831 replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely. We have a starting CB and 2 starting Safeties to fill-- In addition to a NT, 5-tech, Edge, and probably LB. On the offensive side of the ball, TE, WR, RT, and C. -

Not-So-Bold Statement: We will sign at least 1 Free Agent Safety, possibly two. -

PAUSE: We are about to enter the most exciting weeks of the Panthers' season. Try to keep your minds open and hear what Huddlers have to say. Even us dumb ones. -
He who must not be named (to avoid a Huddle meltdown) is rising.

REPORT: Panthers interested in WR Darius Slayton

That is my first impulse, Aussie, but I think we horribly overspent last year during the tampering period. I just think there is a crazy bidding war with the new cap money and once teams blow their wad, there are some really good players left. We can get 5 players instead of 3. I see both sides, however. You can look at it from this perspective: You don't have to trade for these players, so the only thing you lose is money. Later, if you have a need, you have to trade for that player... -
I think if we are patient in free agency we can find some value. When they raise the cap, some of these players and GMs are like kids with a dollar when they hear the ice cream truck music.

We have to sign some free agents because the draft may fill 3 needs, 4 if we are lucky. Not to say I want this guy... -

I want to reiterate what Basbear said--wait three or four days--do nothing in free agency, and let the prices and players fall. I know you are not getting top end players, but you can upgrade positions. I think a rookie GM (like Morgan last year) might go all in during the tampering period, but maybe he will be a bit more patient. Having said that, I see Morgan going after a DE/DT, WR, and S. -
when he has been on the field, he has been good. He will be overpaid. Missed 5 games but had 34 pressures--and good vs run. However, this is not shady acres--he is banged up for a 29 year old. We need some young guy to be getting reps.

Logical--The problem is we need 2, but the draft is loaded. -

The price is ridiculous. I am not sure of the markets by position any more. However, we would not have to trade for a young, high performing player--most free agents of his caliber are around 30. I think we could sign 3 starters in free agency (S, IDL, and maybe WR) and be done. I don't think you fill holes in free agency. That is like shopping at Bloomingdale's for painting clothes. -

I see this happening. A 25-year old safety who has been solid. -
NFL Network reports that Dolphins Safety Jevon Holland will hit free agency. Mentioned the Panthers as a potential landing spot. Said his salary will be between $15-20m.

Joe Person mock draft house party special

unless he sees 1 of them as a NT, it is crazy. Brown, Robinson, and Graham would be enough to move on to other needs. -

Edge is not getting better---and no OT was taken--so I assume those were addressed in free agency. Id rather see an edge go earlier and a RT/swing T instead of another DT, or a mediocre WR. However, you can't fill all our needs in 1 draft. -
I am starting to get worried about Horn. Metcalf is only 27. If I had to choose, I think I would be looking to trade Horn for Metcalf.
