The most productive the Panther offense has been was the 37-27 loss to Seattle. Oh yeah, Dalton played that game. Oh yeah, that was Week 3. The Panthers and Bryce Young haven't come close to matching the relative success of that game, yet Bryce Young is still trotting out there every week. This leads me to ask a simple question: Is it the goal of the Panthers to attempt to develop a QB with limited athletic and physical talent or, is it the goal of the team to win games. Because, if we're being honest and going back to the words of both John Fox and Ron Rivera, who gives the team the best opportunity to win?

The vast majority of Noesen's goals come from inside 6'. He even said himself there are no highlight reels of him because there's nothing special about scrapping in a goal or getting a deflection in the crease. Noesen is the best net front player this team has had in the past 5 years.

A Kings-Rags final could be a bloodbath. But I'd say the Kings are younger and better. The Rags are getting a little long in the tooth and I don't expect their run to continue much past the TDL.

When we called it quits with Carolina several years ago, I became a football fan in the sense that I just watch games I think will be a good match-up. It's much more fun to watch without an emotional or financial investment. It's much more fun to watch not caring who wins or loses.

DeAngelo signed a one-year, $1.675-million deal with the Hurricanes as a free agent in the summer. He enjoyed a career year with Carolina in 2021-22, racking up 51 points in 64 games, but was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers the following summer. The Flyers bought out the final year of his contract after a poor campaign, making him a free agent. The 2023-24 season hasn't been kind to DeAngelo. He's failed to carve out a consistent role on Carolina's deep blue line, as he's averaging a career-low 16:11 per contest and has frequently been a healthy scratch. DeAngelo's tallied one goal and six assists in 16 games. The Hurricanes have five defensemen carrying a $4-million cap hit or greater, leaving only one spot up for grabs most nights. DeAngelo has proven to be a defensive liability, while his main competition for the No. 6 defenseman role, Jalen Chatfield, has been solid. It was an issue, just not the top priority as some thought it was. Nonetheless, it was addressed with an every-night guy in Bunting and a role-player in Lemieux. Orlov was added, although that is still a head-scratcher when everyone knew TDA was coming back. I don't care how tough and gritty a team is. If that team is winning consistently, they're going to take some hits along the way. Toughness and grit don't win games, goal scoring does. And that's the part nobody addressed.

The Canes got curb-stomped by a 9-12 team last night. I have no confidence they can beat a 10-12 team with a better D than Edmonton. That being said, as others have pointed out, the Canes are streaky and there's no better time than now. As for everything else that's not happening with this team- far as I'm concerned it's the best team in the NHL on paper. Problem is, the game is not played on paper. Dundon and Waddell can start tearing this whole thing down for a retool tomorrow and I'd be okay with it. My trade bait list: Necas, Drury, Martinook (UFA). Pesce, DeAngelo. Both Raanta and Kochetkov. I don't see Orlov going anywhere with a $7.5M salary for the next 2 years, otherwise, I'd add him to the list as well. The first 4 guys on that list could bring in some serious talent.

During the Canes 6-2 win over the Sabres, DW was in the booth with Tripp and Will. He said he was not going on the road trip because he had work to do. I also see the Leafs are down 3 defensemen and emergency recalled Max LaJoie, among others, to fill their holes on the blue line. Maybe there's a deal to be made that includes bringing a goalie our way in exchange for Drury and a future, or Pesce straight up? Would have to be a 3-team deal because Toronto has Samsonov and a 2, not a 1A/1B like the Canes, so they won't be shipping a goalie.

Oilers have won 4 straight since their loss to the Canes in Raleigh a couple weeks ago. They get last change so I expect to see them trying to get Draisaitl and McDavid on the ice against the Canes 4th line. Might see some line changes from RBA.
