  1. I'll take Martinook against the Devils and Markstrom tonight. Wasn't Markstrom in Calgary or ??? last season? Wasn't he a free agent signed by NJ? Coulda, would, shoulda...
  2. At the risk of being a Grinch, I thought I'd wait until after the holiday to give you the gift of statistics. In 21 wins, the Canes have outscored their opponents 92-38, scoring 4.38 goals per game while allowing just 1.8. In these 21 wins, the Canes have scored 4 or more goals in all but 3 wins. In 13 losses, the Canes have been outscored 58-26; giving up 4.46 goals per game while scoring 2. With the exception of the shootout loss, only 2 other losses have been by 1 goal. PP goals: 28 (33% above than the league average) PP percentage: 26.17 (5.3% higher than the league average of 20.84) SV percentage: .889 (below the league average of .893) 5-on-5 SV percentage: .906 (below the league average of .918) +/- leaders and losers: Orlov (+17)/Chatfield (+14) a combined +31 for a defensive pairing is almost unheard of. Martinook (+11)/Staal (+8) for a combined +19 for the heavy line. Svech (-8), Gostisbehere, Walker, Aho (-6). -------------------------------------------------------------------- What does all this mean? When the Canes win, they win convincingly and usually soundly. When they lose, the lose like they win- convincingly. The Canes have won a game or 2 thanks to the blue line scoring, but more often than not, losses have come when the top 2 lines are non-factors, which has occurred far more than previous years. To be clear, the Canes have lost more games because the top end of the payroll not producing than they've won when the top line shows up. And, I'll just add this from another thread I posted in just 11 days ago. The point is still valid: The Canes lost Bunting (13), TDA (3), Noesen (14), Pesce (3), Skjei (13), Teravainen (25), Guentzel (8), Kuznetsov (2), who accounted for 81 of Carolina's 277 goals (29.2%) last season. They were replaced with Blake (0), Carrier (6), Gostisbehere (7), Robinson (3), Roslovic (9), Walker (10), who scored a combined 35 goals last season.
  3. And, I forgot to add this- your real estate agent wants the projects done because there's a higher commission at stake. Your banker wants you to have the HELOC because it's making the bank money. I'm fairly certain the interest on a HELOC is still a tax deduction, only if used to improve the property. People used to carry a HELOC as a form of ready cash, when all interest was a deduction. Thanks to Trump and his Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017, in order to pay for the tax cuts for the wealthy, the allowances for tax deductions on mortgage interest and HELOC interest was changed significantly, effecting mostly middle-class home owners. We carried a HELOC for several years, used it basically to keep it active. We refinanced our mortgage some years back and had to pay off the HELOC prior to closing the re-fi. Since then, it's not been used and we finally closed to account just a couple months ago. Remember, the HELOC is using your home as collateral, therefore the lending institution becomes a lienholder on your property. A deed is filed with the county Register of Deeds and the bank becomes part owner of you property as long as that account remains open, balance or no balance. Personally, with rates being what they are, I'd be inclined to search out a project card, bank card or other line of credit that would give you 90 days or 6 months interest free. You'd be avoiding high interest rates and the only reason you'd need to pull from your cash reserve would be to pay off whatever balance there may be when the 90 days or 6 months come up and an interest hit is imminent. I replaced my HVAC system in 2019 to the tune of $9k. I wasn't prepared for it and, although I had the cash, the HVAC company offered 6 months no-interest with their Wells Fargo financing. I think I gave them 50% up front, financed the remainder and paid it off at the 6-month mark.
  4. It might be beneficial if you were thinking about holding the property for a while longer. You need to speak with the bank about your HELOC terms and conditions. Some banks will charge you a prepayment fee for early payoff, for example. Other banks may require you to pay off the HELOC prior to closing on the sale, while others may allow you to pay off the HELOC balance with the proceeds of the sale. I would have this discussion with your banker, not your real estate agent.
  5. I'm out. Canes are getting manhandled, bitch-slapped, ass-kicked by a bad team.
  6. In related news, the NHL announced shortly after the game NY Rags Matt Rempe was suspended 8 games for his boarding and elbow to the head of Dallas' Miro Haiskenen during Friday's game.
  7. I am celebrating. A road win against the Rags is worth a 1942 on the rocks.
  8. New guys doing all the heavy lifting. Carrier, Walker, Jost, Roslovic are all having very good games.
  9. Should have taken Shitstain with the shutout.
  10. They still have at least 25 more losses coming.
  11. Carolina v. NY Rags are 62-82-9 lifetime with a 3.3 GAA. Shitstain owns a 5-5 record against the Canes with a .908 SV% while allowing 2.75 GAA. Kochetkov is 2-2 against the Rags, with a very respectable .923 SV% and a 2.27 GAA. All that said, both teams are not close to their former selves of the last few years. Nevertheless, Canes don't play early afternoon games well, don't play well at MSG and there's no reason to have any lofty expectations today. A loss won't surprise me, 1 point I'll be happy with and a win will be cause for celebration.
  12. They are a better team without Ovechkin. 5 guys playing 200 feet, which isn't the case with him in the lineup. 2 different teams- the one who feeds Ovechkin until he gets the record, and the one that wants to win games when he's out of the lineup. 3-0 Washington. Canes will lose tonight, again in NY Sunday and NJ next Friday. All the teams they need to beat come playoff time and they will show us they can't.
  13. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3162765/report-forsberg-vejmelka-vladar-on-hurricanes-radar The Carolina Hurricanes are eyeing a trio of goaltenders to fortify their depth between the pipes. Ottawa's Anton Forsberg, Utah's Karel Vejmelka, and Calgary's Dan Vladar are on Carolina's radar, reports The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun. However, none of those teams are in sell mode yet and might not be at all depending on how their seasons go, LeBrun notes. All three goalies are pending unrestricted free agents. Forsberg has posted an .889 save percentage in 11 games with the Senators this campaign as Linus Ullmark's backup. The 32-year-old journeyman previously spent time in Raleigh during in 2019-20. Vejmelka has emerged as Utah's starter this season, registering a sparkling .915 save percentage in 17 appearances. Vladar has struggled with an .885 save percentage in 16 games while sharing the Flames' crease with Dustin Wolf. The Canes also reportedly spoke to the Anaheim Ducks about John Gibson after missing out on Mackenzie Blackwood, who was dealt to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 9. Pyotr Kochetkov has struggled with an .895 save percentage in 18 games as Carolina's No. 1 goalie this season. Veteran netminder Frederik Andersen hasn't played since October and was given an eight-week timeline after undergoing knee surgery in late November.
  14. I'll update at the end of the month since it's been pretty slow, meaning not a lot of winners.
