Absolutely not. If someone wants to sign him and give us the two 1sts we turned down from the Rams then by all means, be my guest.

The exclusive version of the tag is rarely used. It's GM nuclear warfare because the player can't even test his market value by talking to other teams.

I’m used to us being the dumbest team in the NFL since Tepper bought the team. I’m honestly shocked they did something smart

Hopefully we don't tie our offensive future to the personelof the past.

You want to land a new offensive mind then have him  play Fox ball?

Remember last year and the qb being sacked a lot and the oline looking terrible?

Every single player on the oline and most of the depth is power run, play action type of line.

If you wanted to switch from that, you'd have to replace nearly everyone currently on roster playing oline.

The other option is letting Young get destroyed again for another season.

    :shrugs: it's depressing.  Lol

Where you pulling those #s' from?

Plenty of guys in the top 10 played on teams that didn't see a lot of pass attempts vs them.  I don't have the individual players numbers though.

ESPN posted them going into last week's games. It's part of the line play win rate article. He had 7 sacks on 168 pass rush opportunities going into week 18.

This stalemate, Burns’ average performance and the team playing so poorly has definitely put us in a pickle.

We’ll have to overpay to keep him but we lost value if we tag and trade (which may be hard to do in itself).

I could legit see him just go elsewhere.

He was 6th in pass rush win rate and had 8 sacks on one of the lowest pass rush opportunities amounts.

I'm confused about this topic, it's like no one here understands line play at all.

He 8 sacks on 180ish pass rush opportunities.  The players above him in sacks are in the 270-300+ pass rush opportunities range.

huh?  I was implying he has 2nd round pick written all over him….as in what a team would offer for him.

And it’s a fact he has only hit double digit sacks once in his career after an half decade in the league and teams will be negotiating with a Carolina team that doesn’t want to pay him.

Burns is a good speed pass rusher.  Burns isn’t actually very good DE.   He is a weak run defender and frankly is limited in how he gets to the passer vs a more complete and dominant pass rusher

6th in pass rush win rate this season. His stats look bad because teams didn't throw much because of the teams limited offensive production.

He had his highest run defense grade this season and was average at it. [67-68 grade]

Coverage numbers were really good as well.

Pass rush statistically speaking He was one of the best in the NFL this season but only had 170 pass rush opportunities. (Meaning using advanced stats) Going off that and Compared to everyone not named Parsons, the average pass rush opportunities was over 300.

Many believe that Youngs poor dropbacks cause issues. Which makes a lot of sense. Improper depth and pace will do that. It would make sense as to why a veteran lineman was frustrated.

He had the same issues at Alabama but it didn't matter as much because the team was generally the more talented group of players.

Imagine hating your team so much you want the #1 pick to fail with the amount they gave up, must suck they must realize they are stuck with him either way right?

New coach will want to move on from him after next season. He's got next year and next year only to prove himself.

I'm reserving judgement until next season.  He's been bad this year, no doubt, but is it him or the circumstances?  He was one of the best rookie offensive linemen last season, but the OL was stable and he had veteran QBs then.  Now he has a revolving door at LG next to him and a rookie QB with no pocket awareness.

He was still horrible for half a season and they protected the hell out of him during the half he was good.

Here's a hard to swallow pill for you... Bryce and the OL can both suck.

    Yep.

Good NFL qb's should at least be competent and effective enough to make defenses pay when blitzed and be able to step away and feel pressure to make throws. I think the average time to throw in the NFL is under 3 seconds in today's game...

Thats an incredibly odd statement to make.  If you watch the games, Burns has been completely invisible.  The announcers comment on it almost every week.

The Panthers defense faces the fewest pass plays in the league, teams run the ball nearly 50% of the time against them.

Even then most of those passes are either off play action or short passes and screens.

Pass rush doesn't exactly have a ton of chances when only facing 28 passing downs a game on average.

Oh and the rush defense isn't bad, it's 12th in ypc at 4.1.

I read this forum and I swear most don't watch games and if they do, they don't understand football.

Burns is doubled 15% of the time, he's 6th among all edge rushers in pass rush win rate at 24%.

The Panthers overall are 12th in the league in pass rush win rate..

You can't get many sacks when other teams aren't.

    1. Thowing the ball much

    2. Throw off play action when they do pass deep or

    3. Otherwise throw short quick passes against you.

With his down season in a contract year, he is looking more like a 15-20m player, if that.

Since lots use pff on here.. (even though I'm not a huge fan myself)

Pff has him rated the highest they've had in his career so far this season.

His run grade is up to 67, pass rush in the low 80's, coverage at 85, overall at 76.

It's Hard to get sacks when you're always loosing. (Most players sacks come from obvious passing situations)

He doesn't like change, So it takes him a while for new schemes. He's dropping back more and has more responsibility in this scheme compared to last scheme.

They keep evero and he will take off even further next season under him.

somehow he continues his 75+ overall PFF rating despite weeks of being between 65 and 55...

someone with a subscription should check his run defense and pass defense grades.

Overall is 76, run defense is 67, coverage is 85, don't remember the pass rush actual score but it's up there in the 80's. PFF thinks he's having his best season, sacks just aren't there

  13. Trick fitt and the Teppers into a locked basement.  Resign luvu. trade BY for whatever I can get. Focus on dline, oline and WR in FA.

Run Dalton out at QB, power run and play action passing for a year. Lean on the defense and keep them fresh.

Go into 2025 with a high first round draft pick and go from there.

Most importantly, make sure that the Teppers and Fit stay locked in the basement.
