So basically we are still looking for 2 Edge starters
Even if he was healthy, the team was looking for two edge starters.

NY Giants made this man the 2nd highest paid DE in NFL history lmao. They didn't learn anything from the To Daniel Jones contract last year.
It’s also funny hearing Skip Bayless call him a top 5 DE this morning on Undisputed. Crazy how he goes to bigger market and people now decide to praise him. Nobody was talking about Burns when he was a Panthers. Now he's a big deal.
Going into this past season, he was considered by many a top 10 edge in the NFL. His advanced metrics are off the charts, even last year in a down year they were still really good.

Good deal for the giants and for Burns.
His 5 year 141m deal is basically a 3 year 90m deal

we just signed two edges what are you talking about? If anything what's the ILB looking like?
We signed two rotational players at edge. That’s it. Still need two starters at edge

Those stats account for the last two years. Burns was much better two years ago (most likely effort related), while Wonnum had a worse year in 2022.
They graded Burns 20 points higher at pass rushing and Wonnum 9 points higher at rush defense over that two year period.
No one is saying Wonnum is of equal talent to Burns. But he’ll put up 55%+ of Burns pass rush production and likely better rush defense for ~30% cost.
The 6.7 and the 9 for win rate and pass rush success was from this past season for DJ. Just this past season. He was ranked 43rd out of 51 pass rushers with 300 rush attempts.

Where do you recall seeing those stats?
Pff has them in their breakdown and has him with a 55 rush grade. Burns was a 75 rush grade. Similar rush defense grades.

the other stats are from a Vikings free agency outlook breakdown
hea considered a 3rd down only pass rush rotational player. He shouldn’t be starting at all and should be at least your 3rd de

Wonnum had 38 pressures. Maybe you're thinking of QB hits?
The real question is how many times did Wonnum let a TE make him look like a complete b****? Burns was at least double digits in that category
No I was thinking of pressure rate, do had one of the lowest pressure rates and win rates in the NFL last season. 9% and 8% I believe. Burns was around double that rate or higher while facing double the amount of double team blocks.
the reason the stats are similar is because DJ had way more pass rush opportunities compared to Burns.

I'd like to see that compared to burns
Burns was double the pressures with over 40. Rest of the stats are very similar

Our first round pick back at #1 or the following
a pro bowl qb
A trio of good wr’s
2 starting caliber edge players
a nfl level oline
a winning record this season
or
Tepper to sell the team tonight before I go to sleep

Some browns fan crunched the numbers on 20 years of draft data. NFL wide…not browns specific.
I’ve seen it broken down by position too. Some positions have higher success rates than others. This is the only source I can find right now.
Here’s a few more that have good information.

i had a few posts a few years back breaking it down in detail somewhere on the site. lol

This is all completely moot
There is a 0% chance that either the Giants or Panthers are discussing any deal, let alone deep into negotiations, if the Giants and Burns haven't talked and come to a general agreement on a contract extension, as it would be a complete waste of everyone's time if that wasn't already done.
Latest reports are saying they just started negotiations on the extension

Somebody seriously needs to check Vegas’s cap… 8 mil.
2 first and heavy salary retention…
With the current rules, that’s brilliant by Vegas. He won’t play til the playoffs and is on LTIR, so won’t impact their cap space this season at all.

If the active player is Bunting, then a high end prospect is going back in the trade.

Absolutely not. If someone wants to sign him and give us the two 1sts we turned down from the Rams then by all means, be my guest.
The exclusive version of the tag is rarely used. It's GM nuclear warfare because the player can't even test his market value by talking to other teams.
I’m used to us being the dumbest team in the NFL since Tepper bought the team. I’m honestly shocked they did something smart

If he gets tagged, it will be the exclusive tag. They want a long term deal with him.

It wasn't just Tepper. It was nearly all of you here as well
He was my qb #3 in the draft.

free agent DE --thread redux

He was really bad last season for the Vikings. Really low win rate and success rate rushing the qb. If he’s the #1 de, then the panthers are in trouble.
