  1. America is not used to "staying home", not anymore. Some people will be very responsible, but there will be some that will have to find stores closed before they quit venturing out. Some stores are limiting hours already, some are closing. Short term sales are not worth long term closures.
  2. I think as each area of the country is touched more with the virus, these type gatherings will decrease. Folks in Seattle, will obviously be more cautious than someone in Nebraska, but it is probably better that Nebraska learn on the front end, so to speak. NC, I think has 15 confirmed cases, but we need to act like it is 100 times more, before that becomes a reality
  3. Foxnews caters to their audience also and to their advertisers. None of them are pure dispensers of news. There are no dollars in that. Anyway, this discussion is about the virus, not political stuff. Our church is now being streamed. Maybe suggest to your group that it might be a good idea
  4. drugs limiting the virus' severity will be the road traveled for the next 6 months
  5. Would certainly rather be talking a different March Madness this time of year, or the Masters, or opening day of MLB, and certainly the NFL Draft, but we will get there. Look forward to it
  6. So many times, I move away from people on news stations, even the "experts" as I can no longer trust them. They are trying to sell for their advertisers and gain audience share. Right and left, both are working for audience share for dollars. Same with weather channels. I have just started going to "charts and graphs" as you say. The world has just gotten to 6k deaths today. The worlds most populous country seems to be over the worst of their issues. So if just the numbers and watching them, it actually gives me hope, moreso that talking heads on TV shows, haha. They scare the crap out of me. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
  7. The good thing, so far, is that our rates of people with symptoms that are tested, are only 4% positive. 96% of people w symptoms are negative. Of course that is only a snapshot. Canned goods, dried goods, etc and eating at home if they can is best. Limit the visitors if possible, good hygiene, and basic common sense is best. Like I said early in this thread, we are more computer savvy than our parents and grandparents, so it falls to us to look out for them.
  8. Bought AAL at 13 Will wait and see now
  9. 15k would be less than normal flu, in which we have vaccinations, so I guess so. Hoping much less, hoping
  10. One doctor said, "everything we do before a pandemic will seem alarmist, everything we do after will seem inadequate" Pretty much spot on
  11. I have told my parents that church is off limits now, same with restaurants, etc. Watching them struggle as you described earlier would be hard to handle
  12. supposedly, the big jump 3 days ago triggered the move. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-51839106
  13. Italy would be naturally hesitant to restrict travel because a huge portion of their economy is tourism related. The blinking of the eye could have cost them dearly, especially with their older generations.
  14. testing numbers supposedly once their numbers started up like other countries, they were placed on the list. of course, politics and what they tell you have a lot to do trying to save face, so you never know. reporters asked about rate going up now and gov said, yep, that's why they are going on the ban list too. never know however
  15. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Italy death rate 5.2 US death rate 1.9 Hoping we caught it early based on what we were seeing
  16. They got it yesterday along w Ireland. So pretty much all of Europe now
  17. I would never want to go through that again. I did not sit with folks like you and Raz but have had similar experiences. Having people struggling to breath is horrible, absolutely horrible
  18. Actually, we have not done the draconian things China did, but have reacted much better than Italy. Lots of the cases we have here in the US is because of Italy and people vacationing there. Shutting down travel from parts of Asia was smart. The shutting down from Europe should have been done a week earlier. I think with each day, more measures could happen here. Even state to state, never know
  19. Never know, but China, the most populous country on earth is on the downside of their curve and only had 3200 deaths so far. Maybe he is talking the world? South America and Africa and Australia had better be preparing
  20. Not cool to wish suffering, disease and death on political opponents. That is done regularly in the TB. It is their mindset. Death is their only solution for those that think differently than themselves. Maybe you visit them, they are welcoming........if you hate the right people.
  21. I mentioned all this about 20 pages ago, but if you look at the map, this virus is presenting like many others as far as warm vs cold air. Cold air is thin and airborne particles travel much easier and "float" if you will, much better than in warm humid air. Thick air generally sends them straight down to the ground. Now, if you are not washing hands and practicing basic hygiene, then it will spread with no problem. But areas above the equator, where it is winter, seem to be worse at the moment. That is why I said the folks below the equator had better prepare now before they get to their winter. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 Current death rate in US 1.9. Has been going down with more people getting tested. Many that tested positive not really that sick President finally gets tested and is negative, but who knows about next week. Be better if he started "not shaking hands" as an example
  22. Free tests for everyone. If you are sick, stay home, and you will still be paid. At least that is what they are saying. That should help a lot to flatten the curve
  23. Well this is not very reassuring https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-03-13/china-japan-korea-coronavirus-reinfection-test-positive
  24. A lot of people don't understand that the normal flu we experience each year, that takes 20-50k people down, could be much worse without the flu shot. In this case, no flu shot, that is why we need extra measures like mitigation, etc.
