He's another player that the organization thinks they can fix. Sometimes it doesn't work out (KK), but Miller's flaws seem fixable.
There is no comparison between the two.....
KK was a bust, Miller had a rough year in laviolettes system but he does produce.

Rumors where that NY offered him 7.5-8m and he immediately told them no. A few other teams offered similar deals to the NY one and that Washington was willing to go over 9m AAV to sign Ehlers, so kinda why I expected it to be higher. However fair enough.
Hey at least you never get sticker shock!

Tulsky putting in work. I like both the Miller deal and this one. 8.5m AAV for Ehlers is lot less than I expected.
In fairness you pretty consistently OVERESTIMATE what extensions and signings will be....
Last year you were swearing the Elhers # would be Jarvis.
In the future just take a 1 to 1.5 off what you think will happen

Canes still have 10.5M in cap space we arent done yet.

For some reason we overcorrect our issues. Our defense was good, so we think we can sacrifice for a one dimensional puck moving defensemen when in reality once you get to the playoffs those players get exploited.
And even worse you have injuries force you to play anther one dimensional train wreck combine that with Orlov being no were close to as advertised and boom you have 3 defensemen being dressed who couldn't defend my 96 year old grandmother.
That said next year having Slavin,Miller,Nikishin,Chatfield gives you the best shutdown d man in the league two large athletic HIGH offensive potential D who can take away time and space....
The more I think about it the more I like this seasons approach, if you bring back burns or aquire anther large RHS with length you have 5 D all over 6'2 and 210 with three of them having great offense too, make no mistake they want size and skill on the blue line now and its almost 100% directed at getting past FL.

Down to Carolina and Washington for Ehlers.
I honestly do think we will land him, Ovi has maybe one more year, the caps are probably a board line wild card team. We have more money and weather or not he picks us we are a far better team than Washington.
If Elhers signs I think we should bump Jarvis to center.
Elhers-Aho-Svechnikov
Hall-Jarvis-Stankoven
Carrier-Staal-Martinook
Robinson-Jankowski-Blake
Nadeu* (I think if he isnt used as a trade he will be displacing someone on the roster hes a top 6 talent)
Slavin-Chatfield
Miller- Burns***?
Nikishin-Walker
Although I think we over paid I've come around to the miller acquisition, if we can bring Burns back short term this us a lot of SIZE speed and Length in the D core, if there was anything painfully obvious about playing Florida it was that outside of Slavin/Nikishin/Burns the other 3 were getting out muscled and giving up the middle.
The roster above I believe can at a minimum take Florida 7 games.

Ehlers will help but we desperately need a 2C and to be honest we need to move on from Ghost. Slavin can carry someone like EK but Walker isn’t good enough to carry Ghost.
I’d like:
Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis
Svechnikov - 2C - Stankoven
Carrier - Staal - Martinook
Hall - Jankowski - Blake
Slavin - Karlsson
Miller - Chatfield
Nikishin - Walker
Gotta wonder if all those moves happen if they bumped Jarvis to 2C and Blake up.
That line up would stand a chance against FL

Conditions on the 2026 1st Round Pick:
- If neither pick (DAL or NYR) is in the top ten of the 2026 draft, the Rangers shall receive the better of the two 2026 first round draft picks.
- If one pick is in the top ten and the other is not, the top ten pick shall not be transferred and New York shall receive the lesser of the two first round picks.
- If both picks are in the top ten of the 2026 draft, New York shall receive the better of Carolina's 2027 first round pick and Dallas's 2027 first round pick.
Pretty sure that's supposed to be Car and not NYR on the first part but I copied this from Seravalli
This means we can't trade the other one at the deadline

And truthfully it’s an eastern conference final roster. Miller hopefully Ehlers and we trade for a second center in a few months or during the season and that’s how we get past Florida we’re very close.
Need to offload KK.
Maybe hope for more than 1 win finals lol

It's a heavy conditional first with protections and a second with Morrow. Morrow was getting traded no matter what because his organizational value has plummeted recently.
Idc about Marrrow...
Point is they wasted additional compensation

I will say that the past 2-3 offseasons have been pretty confounding and/or underwhelming and they turned out pretty well. I will withhold a lot of judgement for that reason but....I don't love it.
Well for two offseasons I tolerated it because this was supposed to be the big one...... im not impressed

This what it looks like when you go all in to build a VW that will compete with Indy cars on Memorial Day. It's desperate and does nothing to build confidence in the room.
This ^^^^^ smells of desperation and stupidity.
Ton of money and capital spent on a position that wasn't a hole.
For a player who is questionable and dubious at best.

I meant when we acquired him he was a full on bust for Montreal, heck considering he was a #3 pick he is a bust.
I wont argue he would be a serviceable low end #3 center but lets be real a guy drafted #3 should be much better.
